You can read upon Vedas, puranas, and holy books like Gita. They all talk about karma.
Those Saints were able to write these books because the knowledge was coming from heaven itself. As you know that Gravity always existed on earth but we only came to know about it some 300 yrs ago. Similarly there are laws of the spiritual world. This life is just 1 chapter in the immortal journey of our soul to reach moksha.
I just explained karma in a scientific way. Sometimes you have to test out theories on yourself. There are places like Haridwar in India and if you go and visit those saints they can tell you about your past life. If you believe it or not its up to you. You can go to that city and inquire about yourself where you lived in past life. some knowledge is acquired through your connection with God and can not be sourced however millions of people have evidenced what karma is an can do to you.
If you want to test this theory then I would say. Find out about your past life, what were you like. Then look at your self in this life. See what happens to you in this life.

Let say for example: If you did 5000 lil positive things, your score was 5000. Then you went crazy for some reason and killed a guy. That's a big negative if that guy was innocent (-10000pts). So you final score becomes 5000-10000= -5000. The bigger the negative, the bigger the punishment. Either you have to take the punishment this life or next as God chooses, again there is reason for that which we don't know how HE decides.
