You should try and argue against my point, not my spelling. I would like to see how you can possibly defend the stimulus package. The one we passed in order for unemployment to not go over 8%. The same one we had to pass or it was going to be the end of the US economy. If the situation was so dire, why have we only spent 20%. So........
You can't have real tax cuts unless you cut spending.
If you cut taxes, you need something to fill in the missing revenue, whether that's removing an equal amount of spending, or printing the money.
But printing money creates inflation, which is a kind of tax. So you're lowering taxes for some people, but replacing it with the inflation tax, which eats at the value of your money and hurts the poor and middle class the most.
Too bad no one in Washington is talking about cutting spending.

OBAMA IS A F@CKING JOKE! LMFAO!
Obama pledged to END the WAR but instead he is sending MORE soldiers to Afganistan and Pakistan!
He puts this Stimulus Bill into play but instead of creating jobs he spends Billions in wasteful government spending putting your grandkids into debt!
How his spending millions to stop the spread of STD's going to get your mommy or daddy back to work with a new job? LOL
LOCK UP these corrupt politicians and CEO's of companies that need bailouts in prison!=
The republican party finds it impossible to cooperate with anybody that doesn't share their views. Dems, by their nature, are more willing to listen and agree with the republicans... evidence: even though the dems though bush stole the election, after 911 bush had a 90+% approval rating. Would the republicans back a democratic president with the same patriotism that the dems backed bush after 911?
Yeah and it was bullshit. He bent over backwards putting tax cuts into the stimulus to get them onboard. In the vary least Obama looks like the one trying to be bi partisan and the Republicans look like they are just standing in the way because he is a Democrat.
You must believe everything you hear. Because its labeled a Stimulus Package, doesn't make it a "be all end all cure". over 700 BILLION DOLLARS in more debt. 1/2 of every dollar printed in this country on going is owed to china, HALF. The wasteful spending in that bailout is ridiculous. Americans like you who haven't taken an economics or finance class in decades disgust me. You should be revoked of your right to vote unless you read that 1000 page document. You're a disgrace to this country.
And why do we need this stimulus, you ignorant fuck?Because repugnicunts, most of the same ones who voted against this bill, ran up the debt and de-regulated wall street,by borrowing and spending into the next century to pay for a war and the crony capitalism that was Dumbya and these same people who have become nothing but a bunch of whiney little crybaby losers.
You just don't get it, the best thing to happen was to let GM and these companies go under, they wouldve been bought out by other companies (i.e. hummer division by china and saab by european automaker). Now, there is no lesson learned by these companies, and the debt you say Bush caused, its blown out of the water by Obama (who knows what McCains wouldve been, but they both share Keynsian economic views, not that you know what that means). Youre just an angry, uninformed liberal, get informed.
Do you have any ideas what this debt will do to this country? You have any idea how high inflation will rise? When hardtimes fell in the 80's, we cut capital gains taxes, income taxes, investment taxes. This creates sound money and gives people incentive to invest and save. People will save now, but not to make interest they will lose revenue to high inflation. Take a basic economics class PLEASE. You believe everything you hear on CNN and NBC. Read the WSJ everyday and then tell me something.
You rotten, torturing, murdering, archaic, patriarchal, warring, bible thumping, delusional, disgusting, lying Republican Bush dogs; you screwed our country for eight friggen years, and the best thing that could happen for this country is that you all GO AWAY! (smile)
Democrats and republicans have know answers to anything other then fighting and getting nothing done. It seems, to my untrained eye, that is their goal, objective.
Matthews question stems from a political take over during the first four years of the Bush admin. Where Bush's state attorney's put all thoughs elected Democrats under investigation and had a permanent Republican majority.
Democrat's had to tow the line, they didn't have choice for fear of being put under investigation. (goggle Governor Don Siegelman.)
If most American's new how close they came to becoming a third world nation because of these assholes this wouldn't be a friendly interview
How about doing 5 seconds of research before you show up on set to do your TV show. You look like a moron asking two Republicans about if the Democrats supported bush's tax cut. Do your job right or find someone who will.
We already spent 700 billion and they claim not to know were 350 billion of it went. If we give them more money they are probably just going to fuck up again. Why dont they just cut taxes for everyone and everything and let people spend their own money. It just seems like the more government get involved the more fucked up things get.
There was actually a study done recently to show that spending on things like infrastructure provides more bang for the buck than tax cuts (for anyone) do - one of the many reasons being that at least a part of the tax cuts are going to be kept/saved rather than being spent and boosting the economy.
I know what your saying is true because government spending is directly exposed to the multiplier while tax cuts are not because some will be saved but the deficit we are going to run is 12% of gdp when it is usually less than 3%. That is going to lead to a lot of inflation which will hurt the baby boomers retirements even more. Also 2/3 of the bill doesnt become active until three years out. This bill isnt going to do much for our current situation.
source or STFU. By "saved" income you mean investing it in profitable companies like Genentech, i m sure that is far better for the economy than increasing infrastrucure development.
Thanks for the link. The GDP increase from spending is acute ie. short term. It certainly doesn't consider the long term benefit of increasing investment in the private sector for purposes of developing exportable goods. Fundamentally, according to this logic, just giving lots of money to poor people is absolutely the best thing for the GDP.
Whaddya think? lets just give money to poor people so they buy stuff, that will fix the economy, right?
You're taking ONE type of spending increase. What we were focusing on was simply the comparison between tax cuts and spending. Even the type of spending increase that has the lowest bang for the buck out of all the spending increases (general aid to state government, which is NOT giving money to poor people) outperforms the type of tax cut with the highest bang for the buck out of all the tax cuts. Infrastructure spending (more permanent than giving to the poor) outperforms them all as well.
Spending and consumption (and infrastructure is both just on a national level) is short term gain for long term loss unless it generates income. Your economic analysis fails to take that into consideration.
Democrats don't have all the answers, but Republicans don't have any fuckin' answers. The Neo-Con Ideology is dead. Fundamentalism is dead. Get with the times or get out of the way. We've serious problems.
Perfectly said. The republicans can't just say no to the President over every issue, cause their party will look retarded. Now if they don't support this and the plan actually helps the economy, then they look even worse. It's one thing to disagree, but if they're gonna do that, then give some plans of their own instead of just saying no no no. So they hate Obama's plan, So What? Atleast he's getting up and doing something, Republicans just want to sit on their asses and oppose the new admin.
Its kinda sad cause if Obama succeeds and the unemployment rates go down and the dow climbs back above 10,000 before the end of his four years then he is gonna wipe the floor with any republican that opposes him even worse than poor mccain. so its actually not in the best interest of the republicans for Obama to suceed, even worse is that the demographics are changing in favor of democrats so republicans need all the help they can get
Now that Bush isn't there to run the strings these guys come out of the wood work with happy happy joy joy. They guy on the left is a Bush boot licker! Out with any Republican over 50. That would at least ferret out most of the ass wipes who help Bush and company print money for war and game us almost out of freedom and rule of law. We didn't vote for him just so he can play with the republicans and give them little treats so they'll work with him. When it comes down to it. Repubs are Dirty Scoundrels!
That's very true. He also needs to do the same with the Senate democrats. I think both parties have some people that are too deep into Washington politics. While I actually agreed with some of the Republicans on some pork projects, I think they are trying too hard to seem tough as the minority..Face it, our new President is just too cool to be bothered by those dirty scoundrels and he'll treat them with charm; to the public, this makes the Re/blican look bad, and him look good. Tact, bb, tact.
