  • wow, amazing...great playin', dude

  • I'm gobsmacked!!! Most Irish whistle players can't match this! Hatao must be playing his Overtons 23.59 hrs per day! Aural candy!

  • Amazing playing, dude!

  • ....A wizard.....beautiful!!

  • BEAST

  • fantastic fingers

  • skinny fingers

  • Great technic...I love this song!!!

  • is it the video r has he got the longest fingers in the world lol

  • @SuperPaulrose Musicians fingers ;)

  • What do you call this kind of music? It sounds like traditional Irish music but I could be mistaken!

  • You are very corect! If I remember corrctly this is a galacian folk jig, but for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it.

  • @EVPpsycho its not a jig... a jig would be in 6/8 time.. this is a reel

  • О боже мой, я хочу от тебя детей! =)))))))))

  • Muito bommmm Bravoooooooooooooooooo

    Fantastic!

  • This guy is AmAzInG!!and awesome,a lot

The whistle is such a nice instrument!

  • Wow, excellent. I'm wondering if I could play that on one of my Native Flutes, but it sounds like your whistle is a chromatic scale, mine are pentatonic. Still I'm thinkin it's posssible.

Thank you, your music is outstanding!!!

  • But Jim,can you imagine playing as fast as Mr Hatao does? I would love to someday!

  • @moonkricket1 The low whistle is a diatonic instrument. Playing this on a pentatonic flute would be very hard. Youll have to do alot of half holing which is very hard at this speed.

  • @acousticems O.e" No kidding. I have trouble on fast peices. And when switching notes so often....e.e This would be a super hard peice on a regular flute...

  • Yeah the whistles are a Do- Re-Me major scale. although i think if you converted this to a minor key it would sound epic on a Kiowa flute!

  • Man, Mr Hatao....you are a really FANTASTIC musician!!!! You inspire me to try the Irish Low whistle!!! Cheers!!!!!!!

  • I could do this if I wanted too, I just don't want too. ;-)

    Jeskiddin! Love ya!

  • jouzudesune!

  • lucky guy! Has such long fingers!!!

  • @chelseasleep ... and thats how he gets all the girls.

  • awsome

  • i was dancing along with it *typing at the same time!!!

  • Coming back to listening to this video after a year or so... If you think this is incredible, listen to his playing on the Butter Dogs' "Sky" album, it's just incredible!

  • Is that Hatao playing the tune Revenjig on that album .

    Stunning .

  • Unless I'm mistaken, Hatao is the tune-player throughout the whole album. Great stuff on there, I definitely recommend it!

  • great man!

unfortunately the cheapist nickel or brass low d I can find is $47, anyone know where I could find a cheaper one other than thewhistleshop?

  • Tony Dixon sells one on his official website that is $42 I believe. It is a non tunable black polymer low d. It is towards the bottom of the whistle and flute page so check it out.

  • brilliant !!

  • longt fingers li've ever seen

  • The image is stretched horizontally.

    By the way, it is

    OVERTON

  • Genial

  • Genial? Best Youtube reply ever!

  • Its german and means something like genius/awesome. I dont know why he use german on an english board.

  • ulan yakında ben de alıcam low whistle , senin gibi çalmayan senin gibi olsun ulan !!!!

  • Very, VERY nice!

  • wow beautiful. i want to learn i can play clarinet and the irish tin whistle. is it similar to either? its sooo beautiful and u play great!!! congrats!!

  • Well a low whistle is basically just a large tin whistle, so that shouldnt be to hard. Can be a bit difficult if your hands are small though, since it requires a larger finger stretch. Still if your hands arent too small you should still be able to play the low D with a proper "pipers grip".

  • Overton! not Overtone

  • Wow! Sweet reel, beautifully played.

What's the percussive sound I can hear? - It may just be a metronome or foottap, but it would be cool to know.

  • I think its simply the click of the strumming guitar strings

  • you're good and i like this song because i like medievals songs and it look like one so it really great! =D

  • this isnt medieval its just an irish reel . . . maybe a bit old but not medieval.

  • theyre different styles but medieaval and celtic have a lot in common tho.

  • awesome playing !!! congrats !

  • I just got one today..i cant get it to sound like this though.

  • Fabuleux ! Fantastique ! Un grand bravo de France, Hatao, 5 ****

  • I have the same whistle, but my fingers are not as long as this feller's. I still have to remind myself to play it "piper style", rather than "recorder style" -- not easy at my age!

    Marvellous performance, sir!

  • fantastic

  • I would like to meet up with you someday. We could have a good jam sessions

  • Long fingers are long.

  • SO SO RAD!

  • Some BASS drum will doo the trick

  • My friend, you express more feeling for this music than most people I know. I'm in awe. Thank you for sharing this on youtube.

  • Very true! too many people are way too serious and play the music like robots :)

  • Very good comment.

  • Hi there

I haven't released this tune on sheet music as yet, but I know it can be found in 'The session' website. I got an enquiry from them a couple of years ago and one of their members wrote it out. It's fairly close to the original tune!!

    Good Luck

  • Exellent. I got a low D whistle comin` in the mail. Check out WhistleMaker.

  • Hey man, that sounded really great. I play the suprano tin whistle, and am working on getting a low d whistle - Any suggestions on a cheap but good low d? Also, what song was that?

  • it's lilac reel. he is amazing,eh?

  • that was GREAAATTT!!! Willow, my friend, show me you can do this too!!! See you in RS.

  • Well done.

  • the foggy dew i think is its official title

its a double catholic/ira/republican/ free state toon

i liked the tune before i was made aware of its "connections"

    still its a beaut

    free tibet

free ireland maybe should be first

but what the fffff do i know? nothing

    wil

  • i was wrong about the title

  • be you the nepolise man playin in listooonvarna?

    me wonders??

  • I was told to check this out - (I actually wrote this tune!) I am a whistle player not a fiddler as some of the earlier comments state.

Hatao, I really enjoy your playing - great stuff and I am so pleased that you like my tune. Thank you to all for your comments about the tune it is lovely to know its being played.

  • As as always, fantastic! 5 stars

  • cool i love this song

  • As an Irishman this made my heart soar...beautiful Hatao absolutly beautiful

  • I find it odd that people are asking if this whistle is a Kerry Pro, considering it is listed as an Overton! The tune is "The Lilac Reel", by fiddler Mairead Walls. Hatao, this is a fantastic version. You rock, my friend!

  • Thanks.

  • Thank you very much for the tune name. :D

  • Does any sheet music for this arrangement exist?

  • Can anyone tell me what this tune is called?

  • Toe tappingly addictive

  • Good Music!!

  • mmmmmmmm

  • ever thought of taking up the bagpipes?

  • pls someone contact me on private to tell where to find a low d whistle or a overtone g whistle...tks i will be grate

  • Is that a Kerry Pro made by Phil Hardy ye be playing? sure sounds like one...

    Manfred

  • it sure is. sounds and looks just like mine!

  • It sounds and looks just like a Kerry Pro, made by Phil Hardy.

    Nice fingering.

    Manfred

  • wow this was amazing, very good playing! What is the tune?

  • Amazing.

Hey, what is the tune??? I'd love to play it.

  • Shouldn't you be playing a shakuhachi?

  • WOW!! you are good, so is the guitarist. Why is the guitarist hidden from view? Wish I be there to play bodhran with you guys.

  • ROFL, you know what's funny? The fact that he's from Japan and plays 20x better than most ITM musicians from Ireland or America! I don't know many people who can get that kind of tone or much volume out of a low whistle, much less that hard D sound. Amazing playing, man!

  • Yea, and how many can circular breath? He's amazing. Sugoi!

  • Tone is pretty much set based on the whistle. Volume? You blow harder. You mustn't know very many decent musicians.

  • I know OF quite a few. I don't PERSONALLY know too many good whistlers, or at least ones who play low whistle.

  • I notice you live in Dallas. We should jam. :)

  • I could message you my myspace page, and possibly we could find some way someday? I'm always looking for more people. What do you play?

  • ??? HAve you ever played the tin whistle? If you blow harder, you go up an octave!

  • !!! I HAve and do play a tin whistle every day. Air speed not only regulates pitch, it controls volume as well. It is this way in every traditional wind instrument I know of. You assumed that I meant to blow a lot harder. Please stop assuming. :)

  • well but i don't think that your nationality is important in music ^^ great stuff indead!

  • Well, no, of course it doesn't. I just thought it was funny

  • That's fantastic:)

  • wow..... your really good.... Good job!!

  • Fantastic! Strepitoso! Bravissimo!

  • well i take my hat off to you, that sounds truley unbelieveable. how would i go about purcashing the music you play? i took a look at your site but it appears as [] [] squares

  • It's amazing after having had such a long. sad history the beautiful music of the Irish has transcended so many borders.

    Bravo.

  • dude are you like the first person to know the history? its so popular that black people were slaves for a while but the irish were slaves AND went through a potato famine, and a holocaust in the times of Queen Elizibeth, we even had to eat our own babies to survive. no one ever cares about that though.

  • music of the gods

  • I really like Irish people, but I wouldn't call them gods.

  • yes we are. lol nah just kiddin.
