  • In This Clip, From 0:00 To 0:30, It Was ABC News' World News Tonight's The Leader In Television News Video Promo From June 1979.

  • Loving Barbara Walters 70's hair!

  • Nice to see where some of today's multimillionaire B.S and propaganda artist got there start.

  • Jupiter is upside down, did you see that?

  • if you stop the tape at 0:38 you will see the late senator ted kennedy

  • I suppose ABC really had to sell the news. I was a kid back then and I think we pretty much watched all ABC shows, a few CBS and next to nothing on NBC. ABC had the hit prime-time shows but I don't think anyone watched their news. CBS and NBC had decades of respect. ABC had nothing. So, you can see their "just try us, please! attitude in the ad. I think it took Nightline (1979)to give it some respect. Eventually 20/20 would be a primetime hit and those viewers began to tune into ABC News.

  • The newscaster at 0:18 looked like Bernard Shaw.

  • It is Bernie, he was at ABC before jumping to CNN.

  • Bernard Shaw was also on CBS before joining ABC.

  • Aw, Peter Jennings and Anwar Sadat (shown in the news footage with him shaking hands with Menachem Begin and Jimmy Carter). Both men I deeply admire, both now gone from this Earth, both deeply missed. RIP.

  • Yes - along with Max Robinson (AIDS - he was the man with the afro) and Frank Reynolds (cancer I think).

  • Across the Universe? Aren't they a little cocky!

P.S. This was the year I was born.

  • @acidtones1: I know! "Let's switch now to our man on Saturn, Johnny how are the rings today?"

  • I actually liked the 3 anchor format.

  • For some reason, newscasts with two or more anchors usually has less criticism from viewers than newscasts with a single anchor.

  • These were very appealing Commercials for ABC World News

  • When did ABC start the "Americas Watching ABC" campaign?

  • 1990.

  • And I think this announcer is still heard on the occasional promo for ABC News, isn't he? At least I still remember him until very late in the Peter Jennings era...

  • Yep, and Barbara WaWa goes on and on and on...

  • omg.. the first 3 mentioned are dead now... wow.. time sure takes things away.. wipes them clean... thanks for this video!
