  • does anyone know the name of this song???

  • @Sophie21noir Pomp and Circumstance

  • asimo will go there and kick his ass

  • muy bueno

  • oh hell no

  • who is the monkey who dislike that ?

  • @rowane0chah

musicians dislike it. it sounds horrible. there is no personality behind a robot. there is no music to this music.

the brass playing robots are just as horrible.

we need real musicians not this fake shit

  • @buteronmycrescendo u cant even create the fake shit u idiot.... :P

  • pomp and circumstance it's kinda scratchy the sound :P

  • it's fake, itsa guy in a plastic suit.

  • @1eyeclops it isn't, its an actual robot

  • how is it a guy in a suit?

did you see the hand that was fingering the notes?

    its a robot

  • @MrPoppy32 it's a plastic robot suit asshole.

  • @1eyeclops Actually it is a real robot. It is part of Toyota's Partner series of robots to demonstrate Toyota's experimental research division.

  • The same scene and more

    in "Toyota Violin-playing Robot ".

    watch?v=z9sirG0UEGg&feature=related

Much better than this Reuters quality.

  • Give it a knife, give it a knife, give it a knife!

  • Ok I have played violin before and that sounds horrific!!! The bow is screeching against the strings!!

  • impossible to compare it with the human musical feeling

  • very interesting painfull to listen too but sumthing more proactive would be usefull

  • It'll break the violin when its brakes fail lol

  • lol....bunch of shit

  • Toda esa gente que se queja de los androides tocando musica deberia decapacitar en que ya casi toda la musica que se oye es (lamentablemente) electronica o remasterizada XD

  • terrible bowing... haha

  • yes they will be like us - or we like them - black or white, robot or human - have a look at

    clean-nature dot horicky dott us

  • All of you are saying this has no emotion that may be true but if you want to look at a robot with emotions write this down

Official MDS Robot Video - First Test of Expressive Ability

  • it could play you to sleep at night...then strangle you bahahaha!!!

  • argh the sound on this sucks! amazing technology but the sound on the video sucks...not the robot...the video quaility

  • Ew. :X Toyota's robot looks like an alien...I like Honda's Asimo better! :D

  • he completely butchered that tune

  • i, robot lol wont be long before that movie comes to real life

  • that might have been impressive. Shame the video quality is so poor

  • Life, don't talk to me about life : (

  • uhhg y did they have it programed to play that song :S it sends shivers up my spine i hate that song it remnds me of my grad ceremony

  • can't robot 'FUCK'

I am sorry to say that word..

  • Hey it's good for a robot! : D

    I think it's impressive.

  • Standard midi?

  • i.hate.this.

  • everyone keeps bitching about "no emotion"..okay, so then give a definition of "music with emotion"...Whatever that definition is, a robot and a computer program is waiting to be created that will have robots producing music that fits that definition...this is just a prototype. Robots will eventual outperform humans in anything humans can do, this includes music...

  • Robot's will never be able to surpass our version of music mainly because they do not have a brain. They do not possess the capabilities of vision, memories, emotions or thought. Which are qualities needed to make real music. You can program a robot which notes would sound right together, but you cannot teach a robot how to feel, and create music which provokes emotions and memories.

  • 1. So they will never surpass human ability, because at the present time they have no brain? this doesnt make sense.

    2. Right now robots arent that advanced, but what about in the future? can you prove that robots will never surpass human ability in the future? Can you prove a computer is incapable of creating original music?

  • You say "present time" as if a robot will ever have have a brain. We can program a robot to play, but the most they could ever do is play faster and longer than a human. As I said before, robots do not posses the capability of vision, memories, emotions or thoughts. Which are the most inspirational factors in making music. We can tell it what to play, but it won't know why it is playing it, and it won't have heart. I ask you, can you prove that robots will ever surpass human music ability?

  • 1. brains are just computers, whats so hard to believe we can put a computer equivelent to the human brain in a robot in the future?

    2. Here's an easy proof. music comes from the brain, the brain is really just a system of atoms interacting. It's possible to create program that simulates a bunch of atoms interacting in the same manner, therefore it's possible to create a program that behaves indistinguishable from a brain, thus it's possible for a computer to compose original music.

  • You can program a robot to play notes, in a specific order, or even random order. But they will not be able to create their own music. It's impossible. THEY CAN'T THINK. The day scientists are able to recreate neurons, the cerebral cortex, the hypothalamus or even the limbic system, would be the day a robot could create their own music, and attempt to surpass human music.

  • Ignoring my second point in my last comment to you are we? lol

if the brain is just a system of atoms interacting with each other, and it's possible to make a computer program that can simulate this exactly, then this means it is possible for robots to THINK and create music and many other things the system of atoms we call a "brain" can do.

Right now robots cant do this, but there's no reason we wont eventually write such a program. If you dont think this is possible, prove it.

  • No I was not. In order for a computer to think that means it would have consciousness. A computer will only know it is a computer because a human has told it so. How would it be possible for an electronic device to have consciousness? You cannot recreate the human brain, I'm amazed you believe that would even be possible. I think you're the one ignoring points. A robot would be programmed to play a set of notes, because we told it to. At no time could a robot "think" and create it's own music.

  • Um, yeah, you are ignoring my points:

    1. the brain creates music

    2. the brain is a system of atoms interacting

    3. a computer can simulate any system of atoms representing some brain

    4. Therefore a computer can create music.

either you are dumb, or you are ignoring my points.

  • Well, if you actually read through my comments, I never once stated a robot cannot make music. I even mentioned I know they can. Are you sure I'm the dumb one? Clearly you're the one ignoring points here. My entire statement was that a robot will not be able to make it's own music 9and surpass human music) because it will not be able to think. A computer or robot cannot have consciousness. And if you think otherwise we should not be having this discussion.

  • you wrote: "You cannot recreate the human brain, I'm amazed you believe that would even be possible".

Such a statement is absolutely rediculous , since the brain is just a system of atoms, particles in space, that interact with eachother according to rules (laws of physics). Please tell me how would it be impossible for a computer to simulate such a dynamical system!!! If it can simulate such a system, it has simulated/recreated the brain.

either prove this or admit you are dumb!

  • @beerbelly777

    You are right

  • never say never. im willing to bet that in 30 to 40 years we will have robots with AI's in them that have consciousness and intellect on par if not more advanced than humans.

btw we will probably to this by reverse engineering our own brain so they will have emotion and a "soul" if you will.

  • GOOD ...but it sounds like a robot playing a violin!

  • I bet if someone played a sound clip of this, and didnt tell you it was a robot playing, you would have been convinced a human was playing it...your conclusion fails.

  • I cant wait to see him after 20 generations

  • ok make him play a masterpiece

  • I feel better knowing that I produce a better sound on the violin than that robot, lol. And it's sound is without emotion and very mechanical and direct just like the robot that plays it.

  • i sence a bad futer 2 whoes seen i robot then think about it

  • Fuck!

    That's my job!!

Now i know how people fell aobut the machines and robots on factorys, since XIX!!

    hohoho

  • aw i luv this robot its so cool at least it can play so stop talking shit about it!

  • wow, uhm..whats with all the comments about no emotion? I mean yeah there isn't any but whats to be expectd of ROBOT...geez. anyway this is pretty cool, if not weird.

  • Lawl, you're an idiot. You do know that you're trying to insult a robot..... xD

  • i bet u cant even get a sound out of the violin lol

  • its a fucking robot, thats why its cool, doushe

  • wonderful....musicians are gonna be lik....extinct

  • ugh, yeah, if all professional violinists are about as good as my 10 years old niece who's been taking violin lessons for about 2 months.

  • or if robot motor control ability becomes so precise and agile that it can replicate any song prfessionals play...then yes, musicians will become extinct...this is just a prototype.

  • No you dick who will write the music then?

  • This robot gives me the feeling that it wants to slit its mechanical throat with the bow, but its joints simply weren't made flexible enough.

  • hey that is how my school's orchestra plays with no emotions what so ever

  • it was better on the trumpet. lol

  • lmao yes!!

  • yea it`s tru no emotions...

  • it sounds good but there is no soul,

    humans give music soul

  • lol ?????

  • I totally agree

  • I take comfort in knowing that mr. robot man plays the violin rather poorly.

  • Just programming.

  • Sure, it sounds like crap, but I'm still pretty impressed. This is amazing as far as I'm concerned.

  • Entre nous il y a encore quelques différences avec les concertistes...

  • that was cool a robot plays a violin very cool

  • OH MY FAKING EARS.

  • BWAHHWBAHWBAHHWBAAHHH BWAAHHHHHHHHH, BWAHHHH!

Imitation over. It's so.. squeaky. No wonder no applause. :3

  • its because of the sound, i have seen this video with good quality and it sounds good, no mistakes at all!

  • it's alright. extreamly squeeky. i sounded better than that whenever i first started to play..

  • such heartbreaking gentle sound...

  • jega

  • Everybody now... Land of hope and glory...

    lol

  • Maybe a Terminator can play too violine.

  • lol maybe he can use it as a wepon lol

  • my violin makes sound bigger than nuke muahahahahah die lol

  • Dude that is fraekne cool

  • y pomp and circumstance? lol

  • pretty good for a robot

  • try pulling the bow on an up bow rather than pushing it. your tone is terrible, are you self-taught?

  • its pressing just a bit to hard

  • They forgot to show the remote.

    ;+)

  • i think its amazing that they can make a robot to do this. it may not be as good as humans playing the violin but fair dues like. its cool

  • ppl suck it up

we need to technological advance in this world

and if you read the description you will see that this was a pure demonstration of the progress that toyota has made in its development of house hold robots.

i understand music needs a soul but dont BS the need for technology as well

i understand your argument and respectfully disagree.

  • The robot plays well for an artificial being, but I think most of us can agree you need a SOUL to really play an instrument and make good music. =3

  • this is more of a sharp playing than a graceful manner

  • wow thats pretty cool. but in my opinion people are much better at playing the violin than robots.

    P.S. its my opinion

  • this is bullshit if you ask me!

music is suppose to be about expressing oneself and have meaning to it. what expression or meaning does it have if a piece of metal is playing it?? music should be left to the human soul.

  • just sotop crying its just demoing technological

  • To be honest. I do not think they made this robot to just play music. I really think the reason they did this was to show that with technology we can make something as expressive as we are. It may be an indirect way, but I can assure you that the programers have put a lot of human soul into building, programing, and perfecting this robot.

  • Music is about music.

  • not as good as the trumpet one. it was still really cool though ;)

  • it actually has a much better sound than this video gives credit for... seek out some other videos of this violin playing robot... I'm not trying to defend this or anything, I still think robots won't replace musicians or ever be able to play expressively as one...

  • would be easy to program a robot to do this sort of thing, not sure why they are doing this crap with tax payers funding when they could be helping with the problems faced by disabled people/elderly and people living in poor conditions.

Make a robot that can fetch water for people in 3rd world countries so that kids don't need to do it!

  • ...Who said this is tax payer money? Dude, Toyota is a company, they can do what they want with their money, and if developing robotics suits their fancy, then we get to see some robots.

  • its not paid with taxpayers money ITS TOYOTA, they use the profits from their sales and the many investors GET UR FACTS STRAIGHT damn racist

  • also, i picture the guys from daft punk coming in and blowing the minds of everyone in the audience. haha.

  • that bow needs rosin.

  • i think it really cool and there only trying new things also as most people r saying they will not replace musicans , i play violin and it great . i went to the music shop and the person

said playing the violin is harder than driving a plane !!!!!!!

  • robots will not replace musicians. for 1 music - an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms.

    -robots have no emotions/ideas.

  • That is just so cool. :)

  • ...My sister plays better than that and she's 7 years old and has never gotten proper lessons.

At least she KNOWS that the violin is not held up by your left hand NOR is it glued down on your sholder.

    I hate that robot.

I'd rather listen to the horrible MIDI violin sound.

  • I agree violin is far more difficult than guitar... and this robot play less robotically than 99.99% of asian players (just kidding :-))

  • Get lessons, robot!

  • That was beautiful.....

  • to all the flamers, at least the robot can play the violin...unlike most of you :)

  • This really makes me sad. Out of all things robots can do, I dread to see them attempt to make "music", its just not the same as a human. What kind of people would create this is what I want to know.

  • they can't make music "yet", this is only the beginning...think about the ability of computers 50 years ago compared to today...now just imagine what it will be like 50 years from now.

  • Oka either this is a bad recording or the Violin needs tuned!!!

  • Do you realize what this is?!?! this is the end of the world! the robots have replaced you in the factories, in the hospitals, and even in your own homes, soon they will replace us, the musicians, and make their stupid little cold soulless music. Soon they will inevitably replace YOU. Stupid japanese, they have no idea what they are doing, if musiciansare ever replaced by technology I will shoot myself.

  • whos ganna program it to do that, whos ganna build them, inspect, keep up with maintnence, and all the other stuff

  • TOTALLY agree. Thanks. Now I know I havn't wasted ten years of my life playing violin.

  • Pomp and Circumstance. It's the song they traditionally play at graduation. At least in the US anyway.

  • koolness!!!!!

  • I challenge them to make a robot that can play electric guitar well. Now that'd be a sight to see.

  • The Violin is more difficult to play than guitar.

  • Horrible. Scratchy and not smooth bow strokes. I will not be made redundent anytime soon.

  • Seconded. Robots have no souls. No soul=bad music.

  • third, its to show you how advance technology in robotic is!

  • exactly. i don't think robots will ever replace musicians.

  • hay hay hay. ;D b

  • wanna meet that robot

  • sounds like crap. will never reach the potential of a real violinist.

  • /agree. but the trumpet one sounds have decent

  • it really doesnt though!

  • because violin needs more complicated movements... that is for a robot.

  • plays better than me :/

  • good start.. but i cant compare to a REAL violen player

  • Obviously robots can't compare to humans in terms of instrumental play, and most things that a human can achieve, but it's astonishing how something made out of metal and plastic could be so similar to a human. Truly amazing.

  • Don't you people know this robot has feelings too! jeeze...

  • You know how terrible the tone production here is? I'm a musician and somehow, I'm not worried about robot musicians taking over. They can only really do the same as an audio recording tbh, only worse.

  • the beginning of the end.

  • interesting but creepy..... is this the future of music????? i want to be dead in this days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway, a lot of musicians plays like robots....... :)

  • HAHAHAHA

yeah this robot plays as well as a 3 month

  • so it can play the music, but it can NEVER create it! still fun to watch though

  • That was horrid. My 10 year old cousin plays with more dexterity and emotion than that.

  • Its a robot. Dont expect a terminator yet.

  • wow this is pretty good stuff,it is not even close to real violin player but it is good start

  • I wonder why they mis-programmed it to play so totally silly and loaded with errors and lack of musical understanding ? to make it seem more human ? hm hm hmmm....

  • Just got back from the garage... Tried for 3 stiff hours to teach my car to play the harp. It just wouldn't. All along I had a feeling that i laughed at me. Maybe it's because it's not a Toyota.

  • Sooo... yeah,

Now that I've seen a video of a robot playing a wind instrument, a string instrument, and conducting, I'm expecting to see a full robot symphony soon.

    ...wierd lol

  • thanks to this stupid movie im now deaf!!!

good achievment by toyota but they should stick to makin cars and wat not

  • ur a huge idiot, you should try shutting up and wat not

  • Ow... ears... bleeding!! That robot should have practiced its studies some more. lol.

  • well try and feel what its like being metal

  • I was nervous at my first violin recital and made mistakes too. Luckily, the audience did not worry that I would soon rise up and take over the world.

    That was their fatal mistake.

  • funny

  • lmao.

  • looks like tweeky from Buck Rogers joined the Imperial Snow Troopers

  • Creepy.

  • a little bit rusty, playing the violin is more then playing the right notes. never be as good as a living person, but its quite cool

  • That really is amazing. The faces on the Toyota robots are creepy though. Asimo is much more friendly looking.

  • to those who say this doesn't play like a human. this japanese robot musician is incredibly life-like. it sounds robotic and mechanical, just like any other musician from asia.

  • are you saying that we asians suck when it comes to music? shut up

  • Someone should combine all the best humanoid robots into one!

  • Developing house technology... wow so are we gonna end up like the movies such as I Robot or the Matrix and ruin humanity with these mindless robots?

  • We can always hope!

  • I dont think it will ruin humanity

  • flipante! como se puede hacer eso???

miedo me dá pero es un avance en toda regla
