XxShebleepxX well said i'm totally with you on that one just think of the possiblites of a remake to the 1st one or perhap's-im pulling for this one a sequal.
skllpirates12457 a little aggresive with the comments you made but i totally agree with you not easy to fing any monster movies sci fi or not that dont suck hope this does not get me in the cross fire with you but should it you would not be the 1st person to step on me because of the things i said.
Shut the fuck up with all the hate, you limey cunts. What would you have preferred, that they just blatantly remake the 1982 version? At least they made an addition and homage to that, rather than stoming all over it with an actual remake.
Fuck you cunts are hard to please. Yes I agree that CGI isn't as great as animatronics, but I didn't have a problem in this instance. The prequel was fine when compared to most braindead Marvel comics movies you find in cinemas today.
@IronRooRoo Exactly! The Producers (And Universal Studios) wanted to do a REMAKE, and the Crew refused to do anything but a sequel/prequel, so they made a prequel. And Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Who everyone complained would be a "CHEERLEADER" and "Cant play a Palaeontologist" even though she was 26, and not a teen) was a huge fan of the JC film from 1982, and only did the movie because it played Homage to the original. So yeah.
@Darthbrandon Yep. I like all the cast actually, because most are not well known. They're also not teenies, which is always good. I bet if the studios had their way, they'd have cast Kristen Stewart and Zac Effron, lol. Glad to see a good cast. Winstead and Edgerton were tops.
I love this movie because the cast seemed so respectful to the original. No point in hating on it for something that's the greedy studio's fault. :)
i wouldnt be hating on this film..the makers clearly wanted to make a prequel to honor the first movie.. and they did a good job tieing it in with hte first movie..so now they wil either remake the first film or they will skip over to make a sequel. who knows.. i wished they did use more puppet effects instead of cgi but they had they're hands tied .. studios usaly get the final word. perhaps it wil be touched up a bit if theres a directors cut in the future
i thought the prequel was great, one of the best films i seen for a while. And they actually used a mixture of cgi and animatronics, like splitface wasnt all cgi, the body was animatronic but the legs where cgi. and the woman who turns into the thing was a man in a costume wearing all the things features with animatronic arms and head, but the mouth was cgi. and what do you expect us to to? we have moved on from just practical effects.
No the body was not animatrionic in the movie that was released. The director confirmed that all the practical effects were removed and all of it was done CG.
And this movie stunk like rotten shit. There is no reason to not use practical effects. Its sad to see when the 82 film looks more real than the 2011 film.
It was never going to be a patch on the carpenter version but I don't think that should cloud people's judgement. This was a perfectly good horror film and you can tell they had a lot of respect for the original, fanboys are judging it too harshly in my opinion.
ya think?all i ever hear from people who hate this movie is "OH MY GOD THEY USED CGI,OH MY GOD,CARPENTER'S VERSION IS WAY BETTER".
it's funny how people say "CG doesn't make a movie" yet there are people who hate on this movie....because it uses CGI.I've only seen bits of the movie.but in my opinion it looks like a great movie.hell who knows, carpenter's movie was bashed by critics when it first came out.maybe in a few years people will concider this a cult classic.
I hate it for much different reasons. I hate it since it doesn't maintain continuity with the original. It changed the finding of the ship, it changed the Norwegains to Lars getting shot instead of the pilot (watch the 82 movie again, pay attention to the pilot side when the chopper lands, and you will see what I mean). They are missing the kerosene cans next to splitface which Mac finds, also splitface has 2 sets of internal organs now instead of the one in the 82 film.
And no it won't be consider a cult classic. Never will be.
Why? Because Carpenter's movie had some of the most ground breaking effects seen, plus Carpenter's movie was not a monster of the week film. It had actual tension while 2011 had nothing. 2011 had no character dept, only ones people remember is Carter,Kate and Lars, everyone else is just there for decoration. While Carpenter's movie each character was explored, and you felt their plight. That is the difference.
Well,i do agree with the fact thast carpenter's version will forever be superior to the prequel.but i just don't think it's as bad as people say it is.I mean on it's own it's a very good flick if you dumb yourself down enough.but the main problem is comparing it to carpenter's version.in my own opinion.John's movie is a horror movie like no other. The prequel,i'll admit, will never live up to carpenter's movie.but hell,it's still better than most horror movies nowadays IMO
Like I said I would have enjoyed it more if the continuity was perfect, like the director was claiming before the film came out. But in the final product it showed that he didn't care even one bit for continuity and now the films don't match up at all. That is what bothers me the most about it.
That's the issue. There's a possibility he did, and still does. What you saw was a recut whose outcome was dictated by a bunch of shitheads in a test screening that probably never even saw the Carpenter's version.
@snake2006 Actually, lack of character development was a complaint leveled against Carpenter's film too. Most character development scenes from the script were cut by Carpenter, and for most people it takes numerous viewings to clearly figure out who is who and what exactly is going on, and only a few characters stand out on first viewing. You could argue that the lack of character development (other than small touches), and subsequent confusion, is intentional, but it IS there.
@MrOTK1995 no you're a dumbass, You can't make a remake of a movie that is know for having some of the best effects ever, and make them all CGI, it just doesn't work. the 2011 version is a piece of shit.
OFCOURSE CARPENTER'S VERSION IS BETTER!I never said the prequel was better
There's never gonna be another horror movie like carpenter's masterpiece.i just think people need to find a more decent reason to not like the prequel outside of "The CGI".
@MrOTK1995 No thats fucking stupid, but fine. How about the awful ending, the awful suspense, the annoying characters, the shitty CGI? is that good enough?
im a big fan of carpenter the thing and i think this movie doesn't suck is nice, very good tribute to carpenter, the best scene is the split-face very good scene
I loved both movies. They fit together PERFECTLY!

@IronRooRoo AGREED! And I've seen the making. They used more practical effects then we thought
Darthbrandon 3 days ago
@Darthbrandon Yep.
Also, they were going to make the entire thing using ONLY animatronics, but the producers got scared and didn't let them.
So, people should blame the producers and studio. The actual crew wanted more animatronics. :)
