You sound like a female and you sound young which both are great things considering the topic and the fact females on YT tend to be shallow. BIG THUMBS UP!!!
Well done! The latest I feel is found in Hip hop and has been a god send for Capitalism. Individual supposed wealth, Petty difference in fashion, Vanity, and proposed idealistic behaviour in power brought on by the most oppressed. Starvation of a certain class in any regard maintains the wheel of accumulation. The cornerstone of Capitalism is to keep them wanting an idea of prestige? Then watch them kill each other for it!
Capital has to keep us sedated by getting us to focus on the meaningless things in life, such as fashionable consumption, and make it appear as if it is our "choice" or that individuality must be expressed through the consumption of mass produced commodities.
I wouldn't say the lower classes are "forced" to adopt it, Gramsci didn't either, it's more of a passive influence, a coersion, than force. Look uo Stuart Hall
Good video and great research. A question to ask would be: where is the source of this hegemony? Is it the dominating class, like you suggest, or is it the political hegemony(the real source of power in america)? Then notice how politics has invaded YouTube(i.e. the YouTube debates). Interesting to think about.
sadly every media is headin this way. social network, films, music, anything you can think of. this is an idea.
