This is just all stemming from how the internet lets any nutter give their opinion to the world (oooooh - how meta). That American feller is just doing the equivalent of standing on the street corner with a sandwich board, screaming how it's all gonna end. Armageddon water-coller talk gone mad!
@fehquig Hey Andy, thanks. The whole affair's rather sad isn't it — in so many ways. The apparent genuine confusion and desolation Camping's believers were left with on the 22nd — must've been like that truly devastating moment when Mr Claus doesn't bring presents any more. The magic is real .... then it's suddenly just not there. I do hope some of them manage to make the break from their bad investment.
Hey, for those of you that really love smashing religion ask yourself... why do you vote? Voting is a religion too... you vote for a guy who has lied about his platform and he and his appointed cronies keep your money. You moan and complain about it then head off to vote again. Remember once we have exterminated religion... next will be nationalism and voting mythology. "Reject the system dictating the norms." Peace.
It seems religion attracts con artists. It's easy pickings for them, as people of faith suspend their scepticism. The con artists just need to appear to be religious to successfully get what they want. It is very much "under the radar" stuff. I've seen this in action & it's very sad. The more radicalised the branch of religion is, the more it makes people dependent on it, keeps them weak & so vulnerable. It is a pity people of faith are not more discerning. Good vid TT, it has been a while.
@uncleboring I guess you'll've heard, Camping's now claiming it was an invisible rapture — as always, when in doubt, shift to the unprovable. Having said that, with Camping standing by Oct 21 as the physical apocalypse, we have 5 months to see which of his believers have the wherewithal to break free of his silly ramblings.
@TheraminTrees Yeah, something like "god doesn't want to upset people so he's going to hit us with the full annihilation thing in Oct! I heard an interview with HC (23May).The way he was talking was deceptive. Avoided answering awkward questions. I don't think he cares if he looks stupid. He just wants to be high profile to get more large donations. Yet another charlatan. People have been hurt by this spiv. Not a silly person but move akin to something quite evil. This has all been engineered.
This sort of stuff rolls off Christians like ball bearings on thefloor of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. They disown their fellow Christians who get caught in the headlights faster than Dubbya turned his back on Mississippi.
"Oh, they're not REAL Christians".
You don't see Scientists doing that because they don't need to. They're all searching for REAL answers... together.
Simply shocking! Monumental FAIL.... AGAIN! Don't these guys ever get tired of being wrong???
@warren52nz Apparently not, given how popular predicting the end of the world seems to be. I wonder when the next bit "end of the world" event will pass by into obscurity.
@ghostofdayinperson Mission accomplished :8))) By a fluke, I had just started work on Balloons on a mission again, with an orchestra string section — so they will be floating back to you with a new cargo of love ;8)
I really love your music, I think you should make more, and distribute it in some way or another. I mean, I can't buy it, but I would if I could, it's truly amazing.
@ZebaSzp Thanks. I've uploaded all the music from my YouTube videos on the net now, and put links in the video's description box in which the track appears. ;8)
Thumbs up. Here's my problem with it. The man who predicted this has a great big smile on his face as he says it will happen. He's happy that in his mind he will finally meet God and the faithful will prosper. But that smile on his face is at the thought of the death of billions of people. Innocent lives (in some cases) snuffed out, even though his God put them there TO live. Why can't they leave us alone to live our lives? Smiling at it is not the sign of a good man. It is a sign evil...
Finally, I see the term "con artist". I think this video really nailed it down, while others wave the whole thing off as Camping being an old harmless idiot. He is a pro con man. I'm glad someone at last is pointing this out.
I really like the screen saver bit in this. Pretty much sums up certain (if not all) religious thinking. It may look like something is happening, but it's just a loop of fantasy. An emotional and intellectual screen saver. Nicely done!
Theramin can you confirm this: To grow we have to make mistakes because from them we learn, if we dont do anything (if we are afraid to make mistakes) we dont grow.
But how to know that you are growing if you didnt make mistakes?
@PanzarMetal I wouldn't say we have to make mistakes to grow — eg. we can grow through new experience. I think we can grow from mistakes — if we learn from them. We can also stagnate from them, if we don't learn.

@rozeboosje I wasn't aware of that channel — but hopping over to see your 'Did YOU believe Harold Camping? Though you of course then dismiss the notion, it's a lip-smacking irony you're highlighting there.
@Oliverk94 Because THEIR prodictions wer false, OUR predictions were true, and we've been prerparing to make fun of them for weeks. If we didn't, that'd make us liars.
I'm not sure if he technically qualifies as a con artist. He seems to genuinely believe that the Rapture is going to happen on the date he says (Why else would he give such a specific date and time?)
since i was a kid i always wondered if when they said "there'll be the day you will be rapture" they meant i would be killed by raptors from Jurassic park or some weird naked dude would take me and fly away with me. either way i never felt safe <: /

I hope your Spring's living up to its rep for new life. Do you fancy another music collab this summer? Been working on a piece with you in mind .... xxxx
@TheraminTrees People amaze me! They are feeling sorry for a guy whose "church" is worth millions, thanks to them, who has ripped them off every chance he gets? It reminds me of the Oral Roberts crying that he need $2 mil or "God will call him home"...people actually sent him the money! I need a scam like that...LOL
I'm always ready for a collab with you! Yippy!! You know how to reach me! I'll be on the look out for a message. Sounds "Rapturish" doesn't it?? LOL xoxoxo
It's been a long night of reading mediocre papers. *Wistful sigh*, if only the reckoning had happened...This was treat--though some actual rapping for the non-RAPture would have been a cool look for ya, L to the ink. For the next rapture, I'll float you some rhymes and you can put on some bling. (Did I mention I'm a bit paper drunk?).
Sadly some woman tried to kill her two daughters and herself because of Camping's prediction. Obviously she was mentally ill, but he bears some responsibility in it.
@MsMommaRose Dreadful wasn't it. I was just saying in the comment below, Camping should pay all their medical/therapy bills — and the mother's $1m bail. He was happy to light the touch paper — I think he now has the moral duty of using all the wealth he's amassed from his followers to pay for the explosion.
I read this Harold Camper guy isn't a fraud and didn't want fame or money. He REALLY believes in the end of the world because in this article i read, a con artist wouldn't set himself (or herself) up to fail by giving an exact date. I can respect someone who truly believes in his cause and is trying to help others, if not through misguided prophecies, BUT what i can't respect is a con artist feeding on his followers devotion for fame or money and still manages to keep a dedicated following.
@ffinfinity1 If Camping had given away all his wealth and possessions, I would be willing to hear arguments about him 'really believing'. If Camping were to even now give his money away to the many folks who've suffered because of his proclamation of doom — for instance post the $1m bail for the woman who tried to kill her children, and pay medical/therapy costs for all three of them, etc. — then I might entertain arguments of sincerity. Should that happen, I'll happily annotate a retraction.
@ffinfinity1 The interesting thing about the "con artist" bit, is that most Christians believe that Jesus gave no specific date, therefore by this standard Jesus is a con artist because he didn't set himself up for a fail.
@smooch0408 I didn't say 'whether or not' someone knows maths — I don't see it as an either/or. But we can assess people's relative skills/competence according to the quality and amount of mistakes they make. The questions here were essentially offering a sliding scale — how alarm bells increase according to scale of costs: from mistakes in maths, to expensive construction work blunders, to all-encompassing end-of-Earth pronouncements.
This morning I met a (Evangelical) family member for breakfast. He had the balls to tell me I was lucky - that if it was the rapture, I'd be going to hell - and that non-believers are fools if they don't take this "last opportunity" to accept Jesus. He was making it his mission to save as many souls as he can in "this last reprieve in the 11th hour". - it was part of the sermon he just heard in church.
How the fuck can logic and reality compete with this kind of willful ignorance?!
@TheHigherVoltage Ask him to prove his God even exists. Then ride that rabbit hole all the way to the bottom. He will lose because you can't prove that God exists or doesn't exist. Just like you can't prove that unicorns or leprechauns exist or not. I'm sure before you even get to that part the idiot will have had a tantrum and stormed off because his weak little mind can't reason for that long.
TT, I'll take it one step further: How many failed prophecies and outright contradictions does one have to encounter before one stops jumping through molecule-size hoops in order to protect one's faith in an absentee landlord?
From one of Camping's followers: "If he makes another prediction, I don't know if I'll believe it or not."
My friend, some people are just fucking idiots. No cash required. Just faith.
@theskepticalheretic Hey, thank you. I thought your message about focussing on this world, and making it better for everyone, was right on the money. Even by their own belief system, if the rapturists just stuck to that, then they'd have no worries. A pleasure to meet you.
I have no pity for the people who gave all of their savings to Camping. Even if he had never done this before, which he has, people should know better considering how many times people have done this in the past. I do feel bad for the kids of parents who gave everything.
@deepashtray Hey deepashtray. My goodness, memory banks — I owe you a PM reply! My in tray's nine months high. But finally loosening up after a treacly winter/spring.
@TheraminTrees I honestly wasn't expecting a reply. That you sent a friends invite was cool enough : ) I'll be making a video (another boring monologue) on the subject of that PM soon. Thanks.
Really great music, my friend! You are right; adults need to learn how to take responsibility-that is what being a mature, ´adult´ means. It means reading, testing, checking and exploring and not being so damned naive. We´ve all been duped once or twice but we learn from it and keep going. I wonder if some people are more genetically wired to believe these things than others? Like twins having the same genes and upbringing yet being two distinct and different individuals with different ideas.
@papasitoman Thanks ;8) Some studies do claim significant differences between groups on 'religious factors' — such as forgiveness, or even questions about divine characteristics — with dizygotics falling around 0.3-0.4 in correlations, and monozygotics ranging around 0.5-0.7. If true, it's a fascinating notion — be intriguing to see what the underlying causes might be.
Point or no point, the *Reality* is that atheist are only human and sooner or later we all get frustrated from all the b.s. that happens on a never ending, daily basis *World wide*
@Oliverk94 Because we are stressing the value in being skeptical of EVERYTHING, the value in demanding evidence and proof instead of simply believing, the value in learning from the gullible. Let's face it, belief is god in one of gullibility because there is no evidence anywhere that there is a god. It's' totally made up!
"Jesus. The queue must be unimaginable".... bahahaha!!!
Good to see ya, Link. I have a PREDICTION for you, and you might want to take it seriously. You don't even need to send me any money. It's on the house.
Many Christians will show up here and leave comments. Many of them will claim that you have it all wrong. They've never been mislead by false prophets like Camping. No one knows the REAL date of the rapture.
@rulesandwisdom There's a running joke that my piano pieces tends to require about 37 fingers. I think this one can be played with 20. I don't read sheet music, but I can send a PDF for this piece from Logic Pro, if you give me an email address.
How large do you have to believe the chance of the rapture or whatever are of occuring to do what these nutcases always do whenever this nonsense starts coming up again? They spend their life's savings on advertisments that everyone finds annoying, yet if there is even the smallest chance they are wrong they have just completely fucked up their life, and possibly others.
How are these people so much stupider than the evangelicals who claim that Jesus will come at an indefinite time? Jesus himself already falsely predicted his coming would come withing his generation and people have rationalized that one away.
There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — [pauses] — shame on you. Fool me — [pauses] — You can't get fooled again.

LaughInFrench 9 months ago
It's been a long night of reading mediocre papers. *Wistful sigh*, if only the reckoning had happened...This was treat--though some actual rapping for the non-RAPture would have been a cool look for ya, L to the ink. For the next rapture, I'll float you some rhymes and you can put on some bling. (Did I mention I'm a bit paper drunk?).

Sadly some woman tried to kill her two daughters and herself because of Camping's prediction. Obviously she was mentally ill, but he bears some responsibility in it.
MsMommaRose 9 months ago
@MsMommaRose Dreadful wasn't it. I was just saying in the comment below, Camping should pay all their medical/therapy bills — and the mother's $1m bail. He was happy to light the touch paper — I think he now has the moral duty of using all the wealth he's amassed from his followers to pay for the explosion.
TheraminTrees 9 months ago
I read this Harold Camper guy isn't a fraud and didn't want fame or money. He REALLY believes in the end of the world because in this article i read, a con artist wouldn't set himself (or herself) up to fail by giving an exact date. I can respect someone who truly believes in his cause and is trying to help others, if not through misguided prophecies, BUT what i can't respect is a con artist feeding on his followers devotion for fame or money and still manages to keep a dedicated following.
ffinfinity1 9 months ago
@ffinfinity1 If Camping had given away all his wealth and possessions, I would be willing to hear arguments about him 'really believing'. If Camping were to even now give his money away to the many folks who've suffered because of his proclamation of doom — for instance post the $1m bail for the woman who tried to kill her children, and pay medical/therapy costs for all three of them, etc. — then I might entertain arguments of sincerity. Should that happen, I'll happily annotate a retraction.
TheraminTrees 9 months ago
@ffinfinity1 The interesting thing about the "con artist" bit, is that most Christians believe that Jesus gave no specific date, therefore by this standard Jesus is a con artist because he didn't set himself up for a fail.
IntelligentProbe 9 months ago
@IntelligentProbe Quite the point
ffinfinity1 9 months ago
Wasn't he more a true-believer this time, rather than a con artist? Or don't you make that distinction?
quietthomas 9 months ago
I make silly mistakes all the time when I tutor, but I don't think that determined whether or not I know math...
smooch0408 9 months ago
@smooch0408 I didn't say 'whether or not' someone knows maths — I don't see it as an either/or. But we can assess people's relative skills/competence according to the quality and amount of mistakes they make. The questions here were essentially offering a sliding scale — how alarm bells increase according to scale of costs: from mistakes in maths, to expensive construction work blunders, to all-encompassing end-of-Earth pronouncements.
TheraminTrees 9 months ago
@TheraminTrees That's very well thought out, thank you!

TheHigherVoltage 9 months ago

@theskepticalheretic Hey, thank you. I thought your message about focussing on this world, and making it better for everyone, was right on the money. Even by their own belief system, if the rapturists just stuck to that, then they'd have no worries. A pleasure to meet you.
TheraminTrees 9 months ago
I have no pity for the people who gave all of their savings to Camping. Even if he had never done this before, which he has, people should know better considering how many times people have done this in the past. I do feel bad for the kids of parents who gave everything.

Like twins having the same genes and upbringing yet being two distinct and different individuals with different ideas.
papasitoman 9 months ago
@papasitoman Thanks ;8) Some studies do claim significant differences between groups on 'religious factors' — such as forgiveness, or even questions about divine characteristics — with dizygotics falling around 0.3-0.4 in correlations, and monozygotics ranging around 0.5-0.7. If true, it's a fascinating notion — be intriguing to see what the underlying causes might be.

TheraminTrees 9 months ago
@Oliverk94 Because we are stressing the value in being skeptical of EVERYTHING, the value in demanding evidence and proof instead of simply believing, the value in learning from the gullible. Let's face it, belief is god in one of gullibility because there is no evidence anywhere that there is a god. It's' totally made up!

They're no fools......
I stand by this prediction. Hold me to account.
