Look up Hummingbird Clearwing Moth--it's an incredible little creature! It's not quite as big as a thumb, and looks like a tiny hummingbird, hence its name. But it has antennae and six legs, not two, plus lovely see thru wings that look like dark lace. It also looks kind of like a bumblebee, but it's a moth, even though it comes out during the day. We saw our first ever, yesterday, in the Chicago SW suburbs. I looked it up online under 'hummingbird looking moth'.
The lobster-like tail is one giveaway that one of these things you're observing is a hummingbird moth, plus the fact that they're considerably smaller than your average hummingbird. I spot one every year or so and always do a double-take. Very interesting and relatively rare creature - I'm surprised that you were able to capture footage of one.
It is not my intent to disapoint but your video is one of a sphinx moth. Often, very often mistaken for a Hummingbird. The smallest hummingbird is simply Bee Hummingbird. If you google that you can see it.

Try sphinx moth for which there are many kinds.

It is not my intent to disapoint but your video is one of a sphinx moth. Often, very often mistaken for a Hummingbird. The smallest hummingbird is simply Bee Hummingbird. If you google that you can see it.

Hard to tell, but I believe that's a hummingbird moth. We had one at the pool yesterday terrorizing a little boy as he thought it was a big bee.
