  • lol

  • hated this wonder when I was a kid because I didn't understood english, lol!

  • isnt this the guy with an eyepatch in the movie 300???

  • Unreliable sources tell me that the most popular elements of Shakespeare's plays were supernatural creatures, excessive violence, and sex.

The effects of this wonder seem entirely appropriate.

  • Gotta say, the Civ2 Wonder vids really gave you a sense of accomplishment which the Civ3/Civ4 vids just don't do as well.

  • communism is without a doubt the best government. Decent science and happiness and no annoying senate keeping you from armoring every city in sight :)

  • Hmm...what bothers you, friend? High taxes? War weariness? Squalor? Plagues? Forced labor?

Well, STFU and go to the damn theatre, you little ungrateful twat! You're damn lucky to have the finest entertainment of the times!

  • @Agent1W best for communist and fundamentalist governments i should think!

  • You had to discover medicine before building this. I wonder if that had to do with explaining what poisons were with all the ploys and evil plotting that went on in the plays. Juliet had used something to mimic her death in order to be with Romeo. I don't think I ever read Romeo and Juliet, so I have no idea what substance may have done that.

  • @nydaimyo No, I just think that medicine as a modern field began about this time so it was a good way of introducing a new era, in this case the Elizabethan era which would lead to the age of Enlightenment.

  • Denifinitely my favorite wonder video in Civ 2.

  • I think that Shatner would have been a perfect fit for this installment.

  • @OniLunchbox YES! or Patrick Stuart, but lets not get into the old Shatner/Picard Trekkie argument Lol :)

  • I think Shakespeare is a little overhyped. He's not freaking amazing. He's just amazing.

  • Shakespeare is overhyped by people who don't understand him, and underrated by those who understand him only a little.

  • @quillian42 And those who DO get it, know not to hype it too much.

  • @quillian42 Yeah and it is also strongly questioned by scholars whether he even wrote these plays, so yeah I agree, and they could have at least found a better actor, an actor without a fake leopard shirt Lol...

  • Damn, Shakespeare was pretty damned good with words, he made "This is the stage, we're the actors and you our audience, you make it real with your thoughts and a story of years will be done in just a few hours and enjoy" into something that is remember through ages, outstanding.

  • Wonderful XD

  • I remember seeing this for the first time and being pissed/confused. I rarely built the Theater again.

  • Uh...this is one of the best early/mid Civ advancements you can get. If you have a trouble city with a bunch of peeved citizens this will keep them happy for some time.

  • Nah, I'm only referring to the video. I was about 10 when I used to play this game, and I didn't quite get it.

You're right, this can have a huge effect in early game when you're relying on a few bigger cities for most of your advances.

  • I loved this game, but I always needed the statue of liberty. I had a hard time keeping people happy, so I switched over to Fanaticism so I wouldn't have unhappy citizens. Then I could focus solely on Science.

  • Yeah I used to make the same choice, never realizing as a ten year old that Fanaticism crippled science.

  • Don't you guys mean Fundamentalism? Because it crippled science, I only used it in war time and after discovering everything.

Btw thanks for uploading all these Civ 2 vid =)!

  • Yeah, fundamentalism. Sry, it's been a while since I played. But by the time I switched over, I had all the money I needed for tax and luxery, so I put as much as I could in Science. Got a discovery every 6 turns.

  • I just went for Republic and made sure everyone was happy with temples and cathedrials and the such. I never liked Fundamentalism. Science was hurt too much by it and if you can get enough wonders having a Republic or Democracy isn't that hard to manage if you can add Elvis heads every now and then in cities :)

War as a Democracy is tough but as a Republic it's very doable. This wonder does help keep people happy thats for sure. But JS Bach is the important one to get.

  • That sounds cool RogersRoyal. My only problem was that I used military peices(Not explorers, spies, settlers, scientists, or diplomats) to explore the world, incase I ran into Barbarians or some hostile nation. I think that's why my people were always unhappy.

  • I liked Fundamentalism. Im sure its not like the real world, but you could do anything with fundamentalism and the people are almost never unhappy.

  • I like Fundamentalism only in raising funds and keeping the people content. However, I rarely choose it because I'd rather keep up with scientific research.

  • @cjaguar1 I think it was the best goverment form.. :D I mean, you can have a war going on but everybody's happy

  • He's reciting the prologue from Henry V, a very non-homo play, if you've seen it.

I'm just not sure the language translates too well into today. Very appropriate for the wonder sequence, though, as it's one of Shakespeare's most famous works.

  • I loved Civ II and couldn't wait to build Shakeaspear's Theater just so I could watch this video. LOL Thanks so much for sharing this. Now I'm off to watch all of your other videos on Civ II since I haven't played for a few years.

  • civilization II was a work of art :)

i loved the game, but the disc is broken now :(

  • my disc broke to last year :(

o well it was more than 10 years old
