Look at how much soul he pours out on stage, seriously. Another good example of an amazing guitarist (not technically, but soul) is Kurt Cobain. He was not complex AT ALL. But it came from his heart.

You dare mention Metallica's solos? They're good. But they're of the most overrated solos of all time.

@HaBenOni - what makes this so fucking incredible is that it is a totally improv solo played through Daron's soul, into his fingers...pouring magical fucking notes out of his amps. This is why live music by truly great musicians like Daron (and System of a Down as a whole) is what I prefer to listen to. There is nothing more amazing - and it will never played the same twice. Good idea, but studio versions are never better than live. Music is meant to be created in the moment. Peace.

@ericrico22 1) Actually your wrong, go look at a lot of other footage you will see slightly different versions of that same solo on numerous occasions. 2) If you think improv of that quality is 'magical' you know very little about music overall. Go listen to some jazz if you want to hear some amazing improv. No disrespect to Malakian intended (love the dude) but I bet he'd tell you the same thing, theres different degrees of improv and that is pretty low on the scale!

@CephalopodNZ - I have watched countless videos of SOAD and the improv solo at the end of Psycho and while some are similar, this one (to me) hits notes that are purely magical. I play guitar and own Mesa Rectifiers as well as a Marshall. His tone here is great as well - very pure. You are taking SOAD and comparing jazz improv...not relevant or fair. I love jazz too. I have actually met Wynton Marsalis after a show I managed as well as his top 3 players and discussed improv...

Completely different to what you originally said. This solo is a set pattern that is repeated live with a few variable notes and totally not the same thing as Improv. Its relevant and fair as your the one that stated it was improv that was magical and for someone that 'actually met Wynton Marsalis after a show I managed as well as his top 3 players and discussed improv' you'd think you'd know the definition of it!

Somebody could bring up Hendrix to compare this - which is at least two guys on electric guitar, but you have taken this way out of context.
