  • Thank you for the heads up. I usually buy Atlantic shrimp, but will double check from now on. Please do a video on the Iriomote cat, there are only about 250 left. They are an ancient species, closer to the point where cats broke off the evolutionary tree than any other felid. It would be a shame to lose them.

  • @vulnaviadraco I would love to do videos on the smaller felines, but I just don't have enough photos or videos of them at all.

  • it looks very nice

  • Neoliberalism must be destroyed.

  • There is ONLY ONE reason why these animals are fast disappearing. It is BURGEONING HUMAN POPULATION EXPLOSION that is eating away the lands, food, and resources for this cat and other animals around the planet.

I don't care what other say is causing it, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS essentially.

We must stop this human explosion that now numbers at 9 BILLION people.

  • @xake19 If you aim to reduce the population, I can think of a few people to start on...

  • I just went to the supermarket and was going to buy shrimp from Thailand, but after seeing your video today I actually put it down and found a different packet instead which was caught from the seas of the N. Atlantic. Your little video is making a difference. Just thought I'd let you know!

  • @BritRider27 That's great!!! I haven't had shrimp in a while, but I bought some large Florida Key ones that were good that last time I did. I have heard big chains like Red Lobster buy a lot of shrimp from foreign countries, but so far it seems like China and S. America and not Thailand..hopefully.

  • @briczar22 There's a supermarket chain over here in the UK that is buying masses of shrimp product from Thailand and Vietnam. Their name is Morrisons. They are also selling certain packets of shrimp and prawns that do not have any information on them as to where they were caught or farmed. NO INFO AT ALL! Is this illegal? Is there anything we can do?

  • @BritRider27 What I did was email the link to this video along with info to the various stores contact emails. Most said they would pass he info along to their buyers etc...which means they will do nothing. The bottom line is what is important to these places, so obviously this is the cheapest shrimp they can get. BUT if enough people showed concern you would hope that they would care aboutpublic opinion..who knows. They should have to label the food though.

  • Great video. Thanks for helping spred awareness! You are doing a good thing!

  • Seriously, I just watched a video a few days about about shrimp farms in the Sundarbans, habitats for crocodiles, tigers, dolphins, and various others. You really HAVE to watch the labels at the very least and if possible just avoid shrimp altogether.

  • the video was good but i can't wholly understand what u were saying coz your voice is somewhat cut in most of your sentences.did u use the ms narrator to create that voice?

  • If they could switch over to aquaponics it would be possible to use much less space to produce all the food you need and they can use the land that they messed up to do it that way there is no further damage.

  • Sucks that humans are the cause of most if not all the of the problems on Earth :/

  • This is a really great video, & highlights the biggest & most dangerous threat to earth's endangered species (including one of my personal favorites, the unusual & amazing fishing cat). All of your information is spot-on---corporate farms are destroying the planet, acre by acre. You mention both palm oil plantations, as well as coastal seafood fisheries. What's also true & sad is that the human population is growing too fast, to slow down this fast train of destruction. So mind what you buy.

  • Thank you for sharing this information - how sad for our world to keep destroying our wildlife

  • It's sad, but the world of the future is a world of cities towns and farms. There will be no wilderness, other than a handful of nature reserves.

  • i'll pass along the video

  • After mulitple stores were contacted, only Target and Safeway (Dominicks) emailed back a sort of form letter, stating they would let their buyers know of this information..it's a start I guess....

  • @briczar22 Job well done on the video. I was also at the Felid TAG conference & watched Jim's presentation. I'm currently a student in the Zoo Keeping Technology Program at Pikes Peak Comm College in CO Springs CO & doing a research paper & presentation on the fishing cat. I'll be presenting specifically on fishing cat conservation. Since you posed this video have you found any additional resources or know the latest on Tiasa Adhya's project? Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

  • @sheilarygs Since this report I saw Jim again at the WCN conference in San Fran a few weeks back, but no real new information or any good news. I would guess try all the fishing cat conservation sites and maybe they have something? Good luck on your report!

  • Being a vegetarian, don't worry about me and shrimp! Most of those shrimps are used for making shrimp paste and sauces popular in Asian stores. ALL shrimp harvesting is unethical. Even catching wild shrimp from the ocean kills thousands of other animals, some of which are rare and threatened. It's called "bycatch". Always always look at the ingredients list! If it has shrimp, bonito, palm oil, baby sardines (or baby anything) put it back on the shelf!

  • What has the "Fishing Cat" ever done for me?

  • @Frances3654 Well, if you lived in S/E Asia you wouldlike that it kills rodents for you, but other than that it is a cool little cat on this planet. You like the cat, and you like it right now! :)

  • @briczar22

Rat poison has made the fishing cat obsolete.

  • Great video Brian. Glad you are shedding some light on the problem with these lil' guys habitats! Continue your great efforts in helping all of the cats!

  • well done man i never heard of this cat before shopping takes twice as long because i always try to check things like this

  • @krugerfuchs Yeah, I tell ya, I take much longer now looking for how many calories etc, for my own health, and now looking for palm oil and where the food comes from. I have yet to find shrimp that doesn't seem to come from Thailand. But I have been told some comes from Oregon and Canada, so I am on the search. I think our future generations will appreciate us taking a few minutes to check so that they can have animals like the fishing cat not going extinct :)

  • STOP SHRIMP SLAUGHTER!! lolololol

  • I don't even think of those kind of things. I will now be more aware.

  • Easy for me I dont eat meat :)

  • Wow. Great video man. Keep it up and keep getting this info out there so we people who watch can do what we can to save the environment and get the word out.

  • @ballin7077 I have to thank DR. Jim Sanderson who's lecture gave me the idea to make this short video. And also for letting me use his photos.

  • :( ty for this upload, i dont eat shrimp :) so i'm alriiiiiight :)

  • @brodie9909 For me it hit home as seafood is the only "meat" i sometimes eat. It was interesting to find this information out and I hope this video can help spread the word so we can all do what we can to save this small cat.
