  • I have a 2x amd opteron 880 on a tyan s2892, 2gb ram divided 1gb for each cpu total 4 cores

does anyone know how to overclock this?

  • @killbit1234 Overclocking is generally based upon the motherboard's chipset; your motherboard has an nForce4 chipset accoding to Tyan's site.

Look up my "safe nvidia overclocking" video in the search.

  • why is he happy? on the Black Series you can gain up to 1Ghz

  • @BKsMassive Dude, look at the video post date, it's a socket 939 CPU.

  • Hey uhh please help me coz i decided that i was going to play NFSU2, so when i installed it it works fine just when i look at youtube videos of other peoples NFSU2 games their cars have INSANE looking graphics, but mine is still really gay. My specs are: AMD Semphron 2200+ 1.50 GHz, 736MB Random Access Memory. But i thought the problem was my graphics card...I don't have one. PLEASE HELP!

  • Buy a video card. In fact it's time to buy a new motherboard and CPU altogether since AGP is pretty much dead. Socket AM3, Blackbox Edition X3 or X4 processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and a video card with at least a 256-bit memory interface and 512MB of RAM (1GB would be desirable) won't set you back more then about $400-600. Then you'll be playing games on the nice settings.

  • my phenom 9950 BE lasted 24 hours with memetest at 47c lol but thats because i got a xigmatek 1200 heat sink installe on this bad boy :p adn she is oced to 3.0ghz

  • cool man, can u help me overclock my opty? i got an opteron 180, stock 2.4 and i got it to 2.73, but i wanna push it a lil further!!!

  • Voltage...but I don't recommend it because it's not safe for most people and it didn't seem to stabilize my OC any.

  • what exactly did you set everything to? i have the exact same processor and i really want to overclock, but i feel like my motherboard is the reason i can't get past 5mhz

  • Congrats man, nice job. Sorry to hear about your stability issues, though. It sounds like your fundamentals are solid, but you may need a little refinement on your technique. Check out my CPU and RAM OC guides:

If I can help howlinmadmurphey get his 165 to 3060mhz, we should be able to get yours to its max stable potential without too much trouble.

  • There is a remote chance that within the next week I might be sporting some new hardware. However it's not set in stone plus I'm a few days from a huge update to my site. I will however be doing more game videos after the update so I'll be very interested in increasing performance at that point.

I visited the forum though didn't spot any thread with howlinmadmurphey, different alias?

  • Sorry about that. My nick is §ynapse (or synaptix) and howlinmadmurphey goes by taDA. We live in the same town and have been helping each other in our various technological conquests and failures for some time now.

We both have systems capable of 3ghz (DFI ftw); our only problems are memory controllers crapping out past 2.8ish (most Opty's before LCBQE stepping do this w/o >1.55v) and heat-related stability plateaus. Hopefully a new rad for my watercooling will help a bit...

  • If you arent using a socket 939 then shut up nobody cares. 3.0ghz and above on a socket 939 is a good overclock. I have an Opteron 165 (stock 1.8) that will run benchmarks at 3060mhz on air. Its all about having a stable overclock to 3ghz and higher with a 939.

  • Did not know this was a big deal lol.

i got a intel duel core at 3.4 ghz stock so i am not touching that. :)

  • I joined the 3GHz club today with my AMD 5200 at 3003MHz. XD

  • Hey man I was thinking of going from 2.4 to 3.0 what do you think? I have a Quad Core Q6600 and the fan I have cooling it is pretty expensive with plenty of thermal grease - playing crysis for 30 mins takes my temp to 40 degrees, do you feel the overclocking would damage or help - please write back I would be vrey greatful!

  • 400Mhz was a DOUBLE step for me over the typical 200. How far yours will go really depends on a lot of factors. You might be able to hit 6GHz or you might not be able to get past 2.7. I'd recommend checking out someone with more Intel chipset know-how and frankly I did this only after someone kindly sent me a message explaining how to do this.

  • I understand, I will look into it, much appreciate for the informative reply :) - Keep On Gaming!

  • my brother has the same chip Q6600 and u can overclock it to about 4Ghz with STOCK COOLER! so u should have no problem with overclocking it to 3Ghz

  • It might be possible? After all the clock rate of a CPU isn't the only factor that determines overall system performance.

Keep in mind I don't have plans to upgrade until socket AM3 any way as my system does everything I need and want it to do.

  • pffh i would rather see some facts with that claim, like a 24 hours stability test!! on stock cooling i doubt that would servive a 24hour stress test, it would hit some very high temperature so dont asume that because your brother hit 4ghz that its stable

  • ...and I should feel compelled to do this for, what reason?

  • I can't wait to OC my new 180 which i just got on Friday. Once i get my HDD issue figured out im gonna shoot for 2.8ghz. The temps are great at stock speeds. IDle is 27-28C and load doesnt go above 40c. That Arctic Silver 5 really is good stuff.

  • I've read toothpaste does a good job too. :-D

  • why can't i adjust motherbord settings in the nvidia control panel?

  • Is there a performance menu? Are you running the latest version of the nVidia drivers? Does your motherboard have an nVidia chipset?

  • You did not answer the most important question.

  • I like Intel but AMD seems so cheaper and good to , i just bought the 3850 and it rocks...

  • Congrats man, i knew you could get close too or at 3ghz on that CPU OC. Glad my tips helped you out. BTW what kind of performance do you get out of your 185? Im thinking of getting a 180 and OCn to 2.8-2.95ghz, just to give me a solid dual core boost, w/o jumping to new everything.

  • Well I went to the 185 to max out the system as far as I could with socket 939. The thing is that the motherboard's PCI-E slots are still 1.0 even on the replacement mobo. So I'm going to use my solo 7900GT (which still gets good FPS on everything save Oblivion) until I upgrade most likely to an AM2 system.

  • I went from a 3500 to a 4400X2 and now the 185. I'd say it's a fair increase over the 4400 though if you go from single to dual core you'll notice you never lock up unless you actually do video encoding and playing a 3D game at the same time (I never do two intense things at the same time however).

  • when i overclock my cpu (X2 6000+ 3ghz@3,3ghz) my memory clocks to. Can i do somthing about this?

    Btw.. I'll be having 2 8800gt sli soon :D

  • All i know of that you can do is drop your memory from say 800 down to 667. Whats bad about oc the memory though? :P

  • Your memory OC's with the CPU. You have to set a memory divider, to lower the MHZ of the Ram.

  • pretty sweet man

  • ausome man

  • damn man, i can't get my e6600 pass 2.9ghz..

  • Well it doesn't work too great at 3 GHz, but it was stable enough to take a screenshot and allow me enough time to clock it down to something more stable. I'm not wild about messing with voltage though I did add a little more then the minimal. It didn't seem to have much if any effect over the minimal voltage.

  • WHAAAAAAAAAT intels, specially the e6600 are meant to overclock, my friend has it at 4.3GHz i have my amd athlon x2 5400+ windsor at 3.6GHz from 2.8 running stable and under load going at 43C idle's at 30C with my zalman CNPS9500.

  • I get my amd 5200+ to 3.016 on stock voltage (1.350) :D. Nice oc man

  • Keep it under 55-60c and 1.45-1.50 vcore and you are safe.
