  • Cool to find an interview with Stephen Colbert as Stephen 'Coal-Bert', instead of the 'Col-Bear Re-Pour' character.

Both lovely in their own way.

It's kinda sad that comedy shows with TDS and TCR have to ask the real questions, when the mainstream media treat the world stories like a toy.

  • I love him so much.

  • I like Stephen better when he is being himself.

  • that is himself hes doing this interview for real.....while he treats other conservitive republican interviewers like a joke....like Bill O Riley

  • I think this is the first time I have seen stephen acting seriously....I mean when he went to the oreily show he was not taking it seriously at all that was very funny

  • I think he was. I think he's motivated to parody O'reilly to illustrate what an idiot he is.

  • Honestly? Fuck me, I never would of guessed.

  • He did Larry King seriously as well, you missed that ?

  • this is probably the best interview of Stephen Colbert ever.

  • its funny how they shaved his head i watch everyone of his episodes and the daily show is good but not as good as the COLBERT REPORT

  • It makes me feel good to know that they are so close in real life. When Colbert was on the Daily Show him and John had chemistry that no one else on the show has had with John since he left the show. I think if they disliked each other in real life it would make me like their shows less. Its weird but I can't explain it.

  • I wish he had his hair back :(.

  • He's very soft-spoken and calm - it's really nice to get a glimpse of Stephen out of character. :)

  • Because he's a person and he has a first name. I don't think it matters whether or not he's a celebrity. So you call every single celebrity or famous person you ever talk about by their last name?

Out of all of the comments on here, you chose to criticize mine? Thanks. Appreciate that.

  • "If someone has time for affairs, they are not working hard enough."

    Words of wisdom from Colbert!

  • lol, where are they? Stewart + Colbert = so cute! ^-^

  • True.^w^

  • What's a "strip show"?

  • They have them at strip clubs..

  • It's a spin off series, a show that was born out of another show.

  • Great I have rarely seen him out of Character in a whole interview. Usually you get only a glimpse here and there. Excellent!

  • I have never seen Stephen Colbert out of character before. OMG!!! I almost thought he was the guy he is in the "Colbert Report" all the time.

  • lol nah man his character on the Colbert Report he plays a die hard Republican .. I've only seen him talk 1 time outside of the show, on the History Channel on a program about Star Wars lol

  • I know, right? I love when he's being funny but it was nice to see what he's like just as himself.

  • Nader/Colbert

  • he meant divide 6.5 billion amongst the 100 most influential people

    6500 mill /100

    65 mill per person

  • Aha!

  • Colbert Obama 2012

  • Yes.

  • agreed...

  • Thank God I found this I actually ran into some people who thought his character was REAL!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to ENJOY sending this link!

  • Oh god, the funiest part of that is that those IDIOTS thought he was one of them. Whoever booked Colbert was so fired theat night.

  • COLBERT FOR PRESIDENT!!!

  • colbert has giant balls of steel.

    HE IS MY FUCKING HERO!

  • Wow this is the first time i see Colbert out of character, its very interesting how he admits to his illusive character he plays on the Colbert Report.... Awesome

  • i find this guy the funniest in this style of comedy today. and i also believe he's the smartest.

  • This is good. It's so rare that you get to see the man out of character.

  • He's not that different. It's like a hyper-extreme version of himself.

  • I don't think this counts as schmoozing. Perhaps Stephen Fry talking about Hugh Laurie sometimes can be schmoozy, in an affectionate way.

  • That seems a bit extreme.

  • I'd suck both of their cocks.

  • SilentCritic- I'm sure, you're not the only onexD ;)

  • That's a lovely way of putting it.

  • way to use an ad hominim attack! If someone brings up a point you don't agree with, just insult them. That definitely refutes their point.

  • you realize that he's satirizing Bill O'Reilly right?

  • why are you watching a clip of hem if you don't like hem ?

  • why are you typing if you can't spell 'him'?

  • Ok that was dumb of me .

  • do you even watch his show?

  • non the less you suck cocks

  • Oh shut up.

  • What, you got no sense of humor? their shows are hilarious!! and they make the media seem so sad because it seems to me that you can find more truth in jon stewarts show than you can in the news. tasteless? fuck you, mr. holier than thou.

  • Rather them than rush and billo.

  • actually it's Jon Stewart--and also you suck.

  • At 1:40 Colbert reaches to handshake almost but covers it up smoothly.

  • Well first and foremost learn how to spell his name before you say what has to be one of the more idiotic statements in human history. Secondly, do you invariably associate a partnership that results in the best hour of cable television with homosexuality? They're comedic geniuses, most likely several times more intelligent than yourself.

  • Learn to type

  • Its interesting that because he's so used to being the character on camera, you can see how he slips into the character occasionally.

but it's really interesting to see him out of character.

  • I'm glad I finally found an interview of Colbert out of character... he's such a great actor it's difficult to pick up on when he's not being "that Steven Colbert guy." What an intelligent guy. I didn't know that about his dad and brothers. a lot of people don;t know what he did with his 2008 campaign donations- he gave them all to a charity that promotes better classrooms. along with stewart he's really one of the only genuinely magnanimous and caring individuals out there. he's funny as hell 2

  • I just thought the same thing man, I was looking for one all last night and the closest thing I could find till this was a video of him from when he was on the sketch comedy show Second City. he's a great comedian, it's cool you thought about that too tho, i've never seen him not being colbert aside from his movie appearances

  • What a passionate and genuine guy.

  • This is probably the best interview of Colbert that I have ever seen. He really dropped character. I think Colbert showed how thankful to Jon Stewart he is.

  • Charlie Rose is a great interviewer

  • If I could marry any celebrity, it would be either Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert. They are the dynamic duo of this day and age.

  • Me 2!!!!! lolXD

  • I agree, they're both amazingly hilarious.

  • Aww. Jon and Stephen are like best friends:)<3 love them both. Hope they keep contact for a long time. Stephen thanking Jon in his emmy speech was sweet:D

  • I have never seen him drop character! Skinda disconcerting. Was expecting it to be like when he was on O'Reilly. Ah that was funny...

  • Are you kidding me bro, he's a comedian, turn on comedy central

  • yeah, he is a good democrat indeed :)

  • Oh my gosh, it's the real Colbert. A rare creature to behold in the light of day.

  • This is the first time I've ever seen Colbert not playing the "Stephen Colbert" character. It's... wierd. But cool.

  • Rare to see him out of character

  • nice to get a look at the real stephen colbert.

  • Colbert Report (The show) is mocking Bill O Reiley's show, and Colbert (himself) is mocking O'Reiley when in character. Jon represents the Liberal Side, Colbert represents the Conservative Side. Colbert Report and Daily Show are sattire.

  • I love it when Stephen Colbert is "in character". He's just being himself here. When he is in true form, the man is absolutely hilarious!! --Kim

  • Guys...

COULD IT BE YOU'RE NOT GETTING ANYTHING OF WHAT HE'S SAYING JUST BECAUSE HE'S NOT trying TO BE FUNNY. Yeah, he's elaborating, that is the point, not "be the Colbért character"...

I mean, he's not Jay Leno or Springer...

  • leno and springer wow lmfao

  • You mean you've watched it since the first year he hosted, or the first year it came out? Because the original host was Craig Kilborn, so if you've watched it from year one then it wouldn't have been 'with Jon Stewart'...

  • people hugging flags, religion and ovaluing them over and beyond rationality and reality can not help themselves.. they are born in that bondage so to speak and are bread to slowly strangle their individuality and sense of reality.. Bahdahdoop is another person with opinions that arent his own...

  • are you yourself not bound by ideals be that of the liberal or conservative factions, because i hear so many people denouncing the bible and denouncing patriotism that i get to wondering whether they are merely following what the majority of liberals believe. Is that not also strangling your individuality for favoritism?

  • He's not in character!!! sweet

  • I have to admit... I'd do him... :)

  • drone

  • U better hope your sorry ass doesn't have to hide behind that flag for security. Wait, that's right youve been doing that all your life. Youre worthless.

  • I don't really think Bush counts as a U.S. president. Stephen Colbert is anything but a national disgrace- that would be Mr. Bush.

  • thanks for your substanceless reply.

  • You're very welcome. Would you mind explaining to me what part of my reply was substanceless? You really are immature.

  • I didn't reply to your comment to get into a fight, or to criticize your views. I like Stephen Colbert; I don't like ex-President Bush. I'd like you to tell me why you think my views are fucked up. Can't you see why I think you're immature?

  • ur dumb

  • All right, I understand what you're talking about, but I don't agree with it. Disrespecting the American Flag? How? By saying I don't like a president? I love America, but Bush got us into unneccessary wars etc. I wasn't attacking you.

  • Isn't a flag just a piece of cloth? Nationalism was invented to legitimize the deaths of uneducated young people to further advance the rich and the powerful.

    Conservatism is ignorance.

  • Nationalism was created to rally the people as a whole. For whatever reason this unison was used, this is the core in which it was born. Your spite filled neutralist views carry no answers or meaning with them. Only your half ass assessments of corruption. Tell me, what is a nation without passionate assembly, understanding, and diction? It's a rock, going nowhere in a hurry. I'd rather take my chances with our nation's eagle, to dive in corruption, only to soar high into the sky with victory...

  • That's my point exactly, nationalism is just an idea. Nothing more. it is an intangible idea and discourse deployed to manipulate people. There are no nations, only people living on different bits of rock and soil.

My views carry no answers or meaning, because there are none. Life is one beautiful and spectacular biological anomaly. But its amazing and lets enjoy it, rather than worry about religious/national and ideological delusions.

  • While that is the most basic approach to it I'm talking about work together as a nation whole. While it does not exist it's idealist motives can be reached and executed. Hell, our perception of time is a sub conscious idea, why follow that? But to take a much less general view to attack everyday situations is the right way to about it. Because at the end of the day that's the kind of view that pays the bills, progresses society, and improves living standards.

  • well said

  • Stephen is Jesus.

  • The interviewer was really good.

I'm surprised I didn't even know who he was before I read some of the comments.

  • I've never seen The Word come on without insane applause before.

  • Very smart man...is there a 2nd part of the interview?

  • for the other parts, look at colbertbiter's channel

  • don't you know? It's bill o'reilley

  • I love this guy in and out of character.

  • "My wife knew Jon before I knew Jon. She was an actress in New York. And he was Jon Liebowitz. And he was this quiet guy. And he sat in the corner. And he wasn't particularly funny." [Stephen Colbert]

    where was this taken from??????

I haven't heard this in the interview

  • Right around 6:54.

  • He's such a smart comedian and a good actor too. Hilarious.

  • such a nice guy.

    and a good comedian.

  • I want to be on his or Jon's show one day

  • really cool guy. unlike other comedians, he knows when to draw the line, and conducts himself professionally when its called for. funny as hell too!

  • He's SO sexy!!

  • Hell yeah! He's definitely hot.

    Yum...

  • the gay thing had me out of my chair

  • love this, he's being himself, though it is weird he doesn't crack a joke every other sentence. lol i wanna have his babies too

  • me first.

    :)

  • i dont trust books, they're all fact and no heart.

    haha!!

  • i really like that he pauses to think sometimes before answering. Just shows that he really makes an effort to make a point rather than just trying to be smart

  • It's really nice to see Stephen out of character.. he really is a funny and intelligent person on his own. The character just adds that little.. beauty to the character.

  • comedy.. not character

  • He's sooo hot. :]

  • I've given it some serious thought and discussed it with friends and neighbors,..I'm sorry but I will have to pass on that one..I'm not gonna STFU...but thanks for the suggestion..really appreciate it...

Stephen would disapprove of your use of vulgarity and name calling...you not only let yourself down, you let Stephen down too...such a shame......oh and go find yourself a sense of humor and a brain somewhere...it might feel strange the first time you use them but you'll get used to it...

  • Oh Stephen I want to have your babies.....even though I am a man and that is physically impossible...and I'm not gay...I still want it so...

  • Are you homophobic or something?

  • colbert is amazingggg

  • He did make a joke, you just weren't smart enough to catch it.

  • "strip show!!!!!!!!!"

    hahahahahahahahaha

  • he is awesome

  • ooo, you dont often see stephen out of character.

heheh. cool dude! I love stephen colbert!

  • yeah, it's neat seeing him in his natural state, so to speak.

  • im from the 65ooooo1

  • ah there's that e- word again. 'elitist' like he's a psychic

  • 6 500 000 000 / 100 = 65 000 000

    Stephen >> You

  • oooooOOOOOOOOOoooOOo

  • of course dude. Stephen colbert>>every1

  • shmoozes...

  • I loved his book. It was amazing.

  • fuck the word police

  • wow. hes even awesome out of character

  • Stephen is very intelligent, I'm really glad he did a great out of character interview! Most people don't realize that a lot of comedians are VERY smart! BTW, who is the man doing the interview? I can't think of his name...

  • charlie rose

he's on pbs all the time
