Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
I heard her on a little am radio first. I thought she was BH too for the first couple of bars, then possibly a 70's Korean singer with BH proclivities. Most good singers wear their influences on their sleeves, like Sinatra wore BH and Bing, Elvis/Dean Martin, Mel Torme/ Ella, etc. Saying she's crummy is like saying Jo Ann Kelly is a bad Robert Johnson. MP's "Sit Right Down and Write.." is brilliant. She's a good singer like C.Hynde and Joanie Sommers, who transcend their limitations w/nuance.
Dear SBC. I have not signed into YouTube for over a year, but I dug out my password in order to answer this comment. Please listen to some music before posting something like this again. I suggest starting with Jelly Roll Morton, then following not just singers (Billie, Sarah, Peggy, Ella, etc.) but also musicians (Tatum, Wilson, Garner, Peterson, Hines, Parker, Shorter, etc.) Then you will realise that without Billie, there would be no Peyroux
I have been listening to a wide variety of jazz and blues artists for many years, many of whom had far-reaching influence; that doesn't mean I cannot post my PERSONAL OPINION that Billie is over-rated and had a limited voice (I'm a trained singer) and that Peyroux does it better Assuming that someone is ignorant because they do not agree with your perception is rather arrogant, don't you think? For someone touting experience, stating that "without Billie, there would be no Peyroux" is simplistic

@samblackcrow No she can't, she can imitate, even that, somewhat badly. Your comment about Billie shows the depth and breath of your ignorance about music and the voice. And, you know what, I'm a trained singer as well, and I do training as well.
This is a real rarity! Her work with Galison has virtually disappeared - she doesn't talk about it, since he sued her for all sorts of stupid reasons. I've seen her live several times- she's a fabulous artiste, and the stylistic resemblance to Billie Holiday is always there. Great find!
Actually I sued Madi for very good reasons. She and her lawyers tried to steal my copyrights to the album "Got You on My Mind", (which I produced arranged, co-wrote financed and played on). When Rounder found out that Madi and her lawyers had lied to them about my ownership they tried to threaten me into giving up my rights,
They threatened to arrest me for copyright fraud and accused me of assault. Neither was true, so I sued.
Now Rounder has dropped Madi and she has sued her old lawyers.
@willgalison Funny how a business like Rounder who had such good intentions back in they day has brought out the lawyers to muck up the works. And people wonder where the "hippies" went to? I tell you where, they went corporate. Anyway I like the work both of you do on stage.
You said it. I spoke at length with a woman who was a personal assistant to Ken Irwin. She said he was a madman who vowed to crush me when I stood up for myself. . What is it about the music business that turns people to the dark side? Its not the music, must be the business.
My mom was a big band singer (38-44), so I heard everything Billie (or Ella or Sarah or Peggy) every did- and when I first heard a Peyroux cut it blew my mind. Now that I know her work, I know she's not copping Billie Holiday, or mimicing her. She's her own artist, and deserves a long, lucrative career. She's a treasure.
yeah, the sound quality in this recording is pretty average aye. Still, you can tell that if you were here when this was being played it would have sounded awesome.
Agreed, I immediately thought Billie Holiday!

@RexKwondoSystem Bravo, but sbc, for someone who claims to be a musician, shows little or no understanding of music.

A lot of people think she's Canadian or French because she speaks French so well.
She moved to Paris when she was about 14 years old.

Great singer shame she is trying to shaft Wil'Galison. She needs to take a long look at herself! Dont buy her records till she sorts him out.
