Chachi is an ***hole. He started the fire. Idiot or an arsonist? Charge him with Arson and Attempted Murder x3 (Attempting to KILL Ralph, Potsy and the Fonz)
@IrenaPrude Arson and Murder require intent. Clearly Chachi did not intend to cause the fire or hurt anyone. Although, he could have been charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide if anyone had died.
it was around 1959 while anrold 's got burned down what if clarnice was traped inside? i watch between the lines fanzie went from giving other's advice to making chachi feel like he is worth anything chachi did not deserved to be treated like that even though chachi is irrespoiable some of the time
@annamariapiotrowicz2 Like Fonzie said, he knows Chachi. It was something that needed to be said. Three people could have easily been killed in one of the worst possible ways.
I heard that Garry Marshall made a point of not letting anyone see the burned up set until it was time to shoot the scene. He wanted to capture their reactions as they saw the wreckage for the first time. I'd say it worked. Smart move. :-)
@Astraldragon1 Absolutely. And I know it wasn't mentioned in the scene, but Fonzie, Potsie and Ralph could have died because of Chachi. That's not something you can resolve with a warm fuzzy moment. Fonzie was right.
With regarding responsibility, this episode reminds me of the one in Season 1 or 2. Think it was season 1 where Richie had tickets to have a date and go with Potsie and his girl. But the store's glass was broken and Richie stayed behind since he had to find someone to replace the glass. I think that one was where Howard had tonsillitis.
I thought Fonz was unnecessarily mean to Chachi. Poor sensitive Chachi felt bad enough as it was and was in tears...he did not need Fonz to make him feel worse.
I felt bad for poor Chachi also. I'm glad Fonz realized how sensitive Chachi is and how stupid Fonz himself was acting and patched things up with Chach.
@lynettebr I think (as the story goes): Arnold sold the business to Al after he got married!!! In a later episode, after Al married Louisa (Chachi's mom, played by Ellen Travolta), and moved to Chicago, Arnold bought back his share in Arnold's from Al. At first, Fonzie tried to sell his share to Arnold, but he wanted too much for it. (Arnold laughed at Fonzie's offer)!!! But, when Arnold bought his share back from Al, Fonzie went back to being a silent partner!!!
Well if anyone else notices they all changed clothes, because at first Joanie was in a red plaid out fit. Did anyone think maybe they went and looked at the next day.

Isnt this like the second time fonzies life was saved from a fire? The other time was when Potsie saved him. Now he owes his life to three "nerds" (4 if you include lori beth as a nerd) instead of just one.
And I hated that they burned down Arnold's. Its such an overused tv script cliche. I wouldnt have minded as much if they had rebuilt Arnold's to look the same as it did before, or like another 1950s burger joint/teen hangout. I hated Arnold's new look after the fire.
GREAT acting job by Henry Winkler and scripting as the cast walks around what's left of Arnold's: FONZIE: "No! Accidents just happen! This is YOUR fault!! YOU caused this!! Irresponsibility!!" CHACHI: [softly and feeling guilty] "You're right." FONZIE: [yelling] "YOU'RE RIGHT I'M RIGHT!!!!!!" Great stuff! Thanks for posting.
There's an edit from the original episode...the first scene inside the burned-out Arnold's had Marion trying to sweep the floor, Howard stops her, and then moves the big 'A' sign, which had fallen into the building from the roof, out of the way...
@TomGassJr Wonder if the clips in tribute to Arnold's was in the original episode before it got edited for syndication. Wish they'd hurry up and release the rest of the H Days seasons on DVD.
@carmesundae if you watch the eps in season 6 or 7 you see while chachi dreams of selling his soul to the devil that chachi is a nice friendly person even if he is irespable for his age/persnality that makes chachi more funni and more likeable for his strange personialty fonzie was too hard on chachi yelled at him saying i know him he is my cusin im going break him?
they forgot fonzies helmet!

The only other time that I have seen Fonzie that angry was when Jenny Piccalo spread a rumor that Fonzie had gotten a new girl at Jefferson pregnant.

I think that, giving Chachi the job of acting manager more than made up for any disrespect that the Fonz showed him earlier on.
