  • sounds like music to my ears i had that system in the 80's

  • Wow and i thought todays load times where bad.

  • imagine how pissed off you would be if this game almost finished loading then you had a powercut.... would piss me off.

  • *seizure*

  • Loading...... 28 mins 2 left....... ERROR!

  • ah the clean crisp sound of the YM sound chip <3.

  • read error b

  • dragon lance would have taken 8mins 40secs to load on cassette

  • Reminds me of a modem. This been sped up, I remember games taking longer to load

  • @nekroneko they took substantionaly longer than this video, it has been edited.. we are missing out on about 20mins of eeeeeeek scrrrrrrratch hisssssssss. good times had by all :D

  • Read error b

  • Is someone trying to get online via AOL?! NO THEY ARE LOADING DRAGON NINJA ON THE AMSTRAD!!!

  • flashback to childhood.

  • If you have noisey neigbours - this would be ideal to send them mental in gloriius 5.1 optional - lol!

  • @rtrgrl78 I have a noisy neighbour and I may play this Amstrad loading noise continuously through the amp at high volume to drive her insane. She bloody deserves some kind of monster migraine the stupid cow!! It would be justice if she lived from now until she was a hundred years old that she have a monster migraine every single day. I did blast her with a Vuvuzela a few times and it did shut her up for a while.

  • EPILEPSY!!!!

  • Press Play then any key!!!!!

  • loadiiiiiiiiiiiing

  • Wtf LOL

  • Me recuerda a mi viejo CPC 464...y aquella epoca. Que tiempos...

  • before the internet,there was AMSTRAD CPC 464 !

  • I wannaaaa

  • target renegade was a brilliant game. man this takes me back. i hated when the game was loaded and then it would freeze and it would have to be loaded again from the very start. it happened all of us.

  • What lovely memories :)

Best games Indiana jones and saboteur :)

  • imagine loading todays 10gb PC games from cassette format :)

XD

  • omg!!! HOW MANY TIMES i heard this sound....makes me feel old now haha.

Oh mummy, Chuckie egg, Saboteur, Exploding fist, and the annoying "read error B" at the end of the reading lol

    Incredible video thx man

  • C'est malsain ! O_O

  • makes xbox 360 look like shit

  • this brings back memories

  • Im only 19 but I still remember this. I was scared of my primary school computers when I was like 4, so my parents fot me an Amstrad CPC. Had a whole lot of games for it like Head over Heels, Sultan's Maze and loads more! Awesome :P

  • this movie is not complete , I remember that there was a Read Error B somewhere in the middle

    Just joking :)

  • I had an amstrad luckily not a casette loading one, but i remember waiting a very long time to play Trap Door on an amiga once, the game of the cartoon series.

  • Thanks for this, I had a 464 but not the colour version.

    Good days!!

  • I remember my brother was loading a game of Barbarian. Had it loading and then thought he would be funny and switch the power off to the whole house LOL. He got pissed when he realised he had to reload the tape and start again. The memories.

  • man, this takes me back!

  • Oh, I remember that! Tape loading error :-)

  • I remember also 10 minutes waiting and than the error :-)))

  • @MorganOthelloLafay Memories haha

I remember discovering I could use my mother's Amstrad Hi-Fi to record my games TAPE to TAPE.... god knows why i didn't start a bootlegging biz right there in primary skool :p

  • Why isn't there a torrent of Amstrad CPC games on TAPE? Seems everywhere I go, they're all on DISK format. Was CPC software more popular on disk than tape?

  • Lol...i remember sometimes the game would take ages to load, and then just as it was about to come on it would fail and u wud have to start again...i used to actually cry! Happy days!

  • omg I loved the sound of this loading brings bak so many memories :)

  • Haha, the poor thing looks like it's about to blow up!

  • id just spend that time looking at the case art work..get so hyped up and then one hell of a disapointment lol

    still love the cpc though

  • On my old CPC464+ Cassette, I could just press [CONTROL] + [ENTER] instead of typing the command

  • i remember this terrible noises like it was yesterday! i hated that thing and the Schneider 6128 was way better

  • not only did i have to wait forever to play the games i had to play them on a green monitor...good times

  • I had the modulator so I could play them on a colour TV. Was cool!

  • i had a green screen with my CPC464.

i used to choose a game, set it off loading and and go away for 5 or 10 mins until it had loaded. then play!

  • Why did it make that sound?

  • the sounds are the binary combinations of the program! this computer use Basic lenguage to work.

  • The sounds are that of what the data sounds like if it's put through something that it wasn't supposed to go through.

  • See? We were the real hardcore gamers, having to wait some 20 minutes for a game to load - and even then, all we got half the time was "Error - please load again".

As far as we were concerned, that loading screen was HD and the best things could ever get!! LOL

  • So true, sometimes loading a game on cassette took longer than the game itself.;-)

  • omg this is like so freaky , how computers have come along now, kids dont know there born now , including my own son , " why it takes so long to load daddy" this aint nothing compared to what daddy had to put up with , lol

  • nostalgico. ACOJONANTE!!!!!!

  • spectrum and cpc464 were great soooooo much fun i had with them,

  • The loading sounds just like the ZX Spectrum.

  • The only difference is how the computer interprets the data (loading noise) - not to mention it's in a different key (F for ZX Spectrum, D for Amstrad CPC) :)

  • I loved that title screen.

It was the best picture ever displayed on an Amstrad monitor.

  • epic. I remember sitting through all this, although I got a Tandy later on, lol

  • I don't think so. Sound quality on YT is too bad for this. The recordings were very fragile, and it would display a bunch of read errors even if casette player head was a little off track.

  • So if you still had one of these lying around and hooked it up to the audio output of your PC and played this youtube video, would it load?

  • yes, i am sure it would ;)

20 years ago there was a show called "computer club" in TV. At the end of the show they always gave you a new program. you just had to sit in front of the television with a simple recorder and record the sound. after that -> tape into the compter, load, run and have fun :)

  • I remember choosing a 464 when I was ten just because it had coulours on the keyboard..declining my father's offer to get a 6128.....2 years later my Xmas present was a floppy disk reader ! lol

  • lol yer cpc i got when i was 10 maybe best present i ever had, although megadrive with mortal kombat when i was 13 was maybe the best. ohhh cant forget the amiga 500, that was great fun! i made my first reverse engineer program with that hehe.

  • Amazing vid...ahhh, the nostalgia!!! :)

  • WOW! :)

  • I really do wish I had owned a CPC464! I stupidly owned a speccy and GOD do I wish I hadn't!!! They were completely useless!! Amstratd CPC 464 kicks ass!!

  • Thankyou! Easily the BEST video on Youtube!! 5 stars!! THANKYOU!!

  • This is not 464 but 6128.

  • A nice souvenir :)

  • if they didnt have th loading screen the game would have loaded in half the time

  • read error b

    read error b

    read error b

    read error b

    read error b

    read error b

    read error b

  • Holy shit, forgot about read error b's hahaha! Nightmare!

  • i used to buy magazines with game codes in and spend ages typing them out just for them to error or be total shite lol

who could ever forget that noise, but i'd forgot about the loading visuals, thanks for that reminder...i think lol

Dragon Ninja was one of my favs, completed it on the arcade too :)

  • sounds like a boys noize breakdown

  • syntax error a or b lol

  • With the amazing green screen monitor all my games were in nightvision at no extra expense.

  • We had the green screen too, when we finally got colour we were so amazed...the need to charge cousins 10p for 15 minutes of gameplay seemed appropriate.

  • For some reason I remember thinking that you couldnt press the space bar when you were asked to press play and any key because it might make the computer chew the tape up.

I have no idea why I thought that.

  • Diosss!!!! Que recuerdos!

  • Io già mi rompevo i coglioni ogni volta che dovevo caricare un gioco dalla cassetta, e ora dovrei sorbirmi il caricamento pure su YouTube? Ma andate a cacare!

  • this game first got me when i was 14 in spain i spent all my money playing it and i still love it today, did have it on arcade emu, but lost it....... other ones to look up on is robocop

  • Don't knock the desk!!

    Quality

  • do u remmember setting the counter at 000 and if you was clever like me you knew when it would load up say 222 and lvl 2 is 333 , lol the good old days when u actualy had to wait for somthing kids dont know there born these days lol

  • I'm sure that the first 2 mins of the load time was just to render the loading pic XD

    lol awesome ☺ ☻ ☺ ☻

  • your probs right by the looks of it, ifo goes into the ram tehn put on screen, then the game loads

  • then when its almost done it crashes and you have to start again!!

  • aaaaah, the sound of my childhood

  • I was like John Macenrow what!!! read error B!!!!! you cannot be serious man!!!!!!! Im on the second tape 12 mins in loading and now you say read error B!!!!!

  • read error B!!! that was the bain of my youth, what the hell did it mean anyway, i had read error A in my time too, that was some frustrating shit!! i can feel myself getting annoyed now thinking of it ahha

  • Hahaha I second that! :D

  • Tape loading errors Read Error a and Read Error b require you to rewind the cassette and press [PLAY] so the machine can try to read that part again. Read Errors c and d exist, but it is believed they can only be caused by deliberately programming them or by playing a tape which has its own special loader (e.g. fast loading commercial releases).

  • Lol the excitement of buying a new game, the nerves of going home wondering and praying the game wouldnt crash.... the dejection when u were 3 seconds from it completing loading and it crashes, so many hours lost just staring at a screen, what a waste!!! Still loved it and wouldnt of had it any other way !! Bruce lee game rocked!! those fat green blokes lol!!

  • Bruce Lee rules. Rambo had a crazy load time.

  • Hmmm surprised you retro gamers didn't resort to mass homicide with those fucking load times...good job people!!

  • ...read error a, read error b, read error a, read error b! Syntax error! error, error, error... AAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaargh! 10 Print" Good old Times!" 20 Print" Thanks for uploading this!" 30 Goto 10 ... Run ;D

  • yes..it was the first time that i met with a screwdriver :).error error!! then anger surged up within my..anyway brings back old sweet memories

  • i miss the old days lol going threw my loft now

  • Does anyone remember on some games you could play pac man or snake when the game was loading?

  • Load will you! Come on! (10 mins later) Yes almost done! (CRASH) Fuck it!!

  • ha ha! i lost count of how many times i had that!

  • it brings back more than bludy memorys! brings back headache 2!

  • lmao that brings back memories of hoping the game would actually load up after sitting there for 20 mins waiting for it

i used to love who dares wins 2, rolling thunder, gryzor, barbarian, renegade, sorcery and some other classics!

  • oh man i cant believe the games and hardrive of 25+ years ago. its amazing how time has flew by without realising technology has moved. my favourite amstrad game was who dares wins 2

  • Thats fucking hardcore ghetto!

  • It does take me back to the good times. I got an emulator and downloaded a ton of games last year. Some of which still stand up to a play even now. Although there are no load times of course!!

  • F*ck me, it's friday night and I'm sitting watching a 25 year old game load up!!

  • lol, there is that too yeah!

  • and so is someone else!

  • Yeah good ol' amstrad cpc. I had the 464 with the tape drive. Used to hope games would load and copied lots of them to try to make them play better. Used to enjoy playing Barbarian, ATF, Super Hero, Sorcery, and all the classics. Maybe one day we'll look back on youtube and pcs today in such a way.......

  • heeeey

    that sound!

i was praying each fucking time!

    hahaha

  • heyyy I remember when I played that videogame on my CPC at the end of every stage the fighter always scream saying something like "humbe" and at the end of the game the final boss that man with a lion face xD nice to remind this ^^

  • classic!! the golden age of home computers!

  • i can remember my amstrad. i miss it. games like rockstar ate my hamster. anybody know where i can find it. have look all over the internet for it and cant find it anywhere. would be much appreciated.

  • Funny i even remmber the sounds from the tape

  • Mmmmm Speedlock protection isn't it ?

  • jesus why did we have the loading sound on?

  • hahaahaha i even stopped breathing and moving at the start when it went all quiet. old habits eh? love it!

  • LMAO!!! Who could forget that ANNOYING loading sound! And yes, i can empathise with u on the time it took loading a game... I used to take my dog for a walk around the block & come back & the game wouldnt even finish loading!! LMFAO!!

Anyways, thanx for the good memories of my childhood.

P.S. Atleast u had the colour monitor... I had the lousy green screen monitor!!! Grrrr!

  • I've never read so many books like in those times...

    Thank you, long loads!

You could find the other classics:

    "Read error A"

    "Read error b"

"Not enough memory" or "Memory full"...

  • I think they reused the animation later for the NES Karate Kid game.

  • Brilliant thanks. I love it the way the enemies have a go at you, then if they miss they just carry on running in the sam direction as if they couldn't give a shit. If they were my henchmen they'd be bloody sacked! :D

  • LOL oh those fond memories :)))

  • the loader sounds like the nu-rave music scene!

  • ah brings back memories by the way!

  • god this brings back memories :D *sigh*

  • Sultan's Maze - 28 minutes. Now THERE was a slow-loader. Especially as if you saved the game right back out to tape again it'd only take about 90 secs to load your new version.

  • god... how different from now...

    i miss my cpc

  • I used to own a cpc 464, i hated the sound when it was loading up lol, cudnt stand it but it brings back memories

  • oh yes, those were the days when a game-kid also was a patient person at the same time :D

  • Holy epileptic seizures Batman!

  • Amstrad would have ruled the c64 if they had only included hardware scrolling !!

  • and now we complain if a webpage downloads too slow...i want my MTV...sorry 464

  • I remember working out a cheat for tape version of this game: At the end of a level you had to press Play to load the next level but if you forward the tape you could actually load any level you want !!

  • siktirin lan gavurlar siz ne anlarsınız bunlardan gidin uzaya çıkın

  • What a game. brings back cool memorys.

  • was only like 5 when we had ours but that sound when loading a game will stay in my head for the rest of my life

  • (my comment was not validated)

i told, it is a pleasure to heard that sound again, the time of loading was a pleasure too.

it increased the wanting to play.

i have no more my cpc 464 but it was a wonderful time.

    - amstrad forever -

  • what a blessing to heard that sound again !!

the time of loading was a pleasure and increased the wanting to play :')

i have no more my 464 but it was a wonderful time.

  • Read error A was the worst thing it could happen!! Ha ahaha

  • NO! Read Error B was the worst thing!

  • yup! B error was worse..

  • i remeber the picture slowly scrolling acrossbut not the flashing colours..i think mine was possibly older or shitter

  • rofl, that's a very different version to the arcade :)

  • Oh this brings back memories, you could take bets if the game would load without crashing. Usually it meant fiddling with the tape head adjustment first. Amstrad made that cut out in the tape deck for adjustment for a reason.

  • HAHAHAHAHA I remember having to wait liek 20 mins to play a game, AH Cpc 464 ruled

  • I remember this game for the Amstrad i got this game for my 12th Birthday back in 1989. My Amstrad was on disk took about a min to load. I thought huh? when the pictures loaded up of Bruce Lee i thought it was the wrong game. I managed to complete it. But the Amstrad version was disappointing on the 2nd stage, the background was only a brick wall and was hoping to see the tall skyscrapers of NY like i saw on the Spectrum version.

  • +1. DO you remember the game "Birdie" from Ere informartique? it's a game from stéphane Picq (musicien of Dune cryo's game). He made a special loader that play muzik during loading on the 464 version. It was an amazing thing to have musik during loading, too bad, it was the only gale that have this technology....

  • I still have my Amstrad. That sound is music to me.
