The ones where i have a descenting opinion on are the ones that i can see how it would stimulate the economy or save money in the long run. for example Wildfire management would end up saving way more money than would be used for the actual project. So this saves money therefore i could see some good there. Providing extra money to fire dept. makes it so they can hire more firemen putting more people to work which stimulates the economy. So my responses do have to do with the point at hand.

You're addressing whether these programs have value, or are good ideas which is not the topic. Given my philosophy, 99% of these things are not the governments duty, but that's besides the point. The question is whether or not they stimulate the economy. They don't.
The single most stimulative thing the government can spend money on? Food stamps. They're PURE stimulus. For every dollar spent on food stamps $1.73 is generated.
Tax cuts on the other hand, are among the LEAST stimulative spending. For every dollar spent, we get $1.03 in stimulus. Still, republicans INSISTED that food stamps in the stimulus be traded for more tax cuts. Are they clueless? Or trying to sabotage the recovery plan for political reasons....
Now you could argue that some of those may stimulate the economy in certain ways but A) many don't at all, in any way B) the ones that might don't do so in a way proportionate to the dollars being spent on them at the taxpayers expense. i.e. we'll certainly put more into them than we get out

The stimulus part is that now that person will have to spend some to other people to get their job done, and the rest they will spend on goods and services. That is, you're taking money OUT of the economy (in the form of higher taxes, or creating deficits), and inserting it back into the economy in other places. And in actuality, it's not even zero-sum, because you have the immensely inefficent intermediary of federal bureaucracy as a go betweem. So, no, there is no economic stimulation occuring anywhere in these projects. Economic/wealth usurption and destruction only.

Economics can get _very_ tricky because you are assigning a value to things other than their inherent value. Anyway, give your example, and I will try to explain further. No taxes will go up for almost 2 years, so that won't effect the recovery at all.
Plus, they'll only go up for people who make over $250,000 per year, and even then only by 3 points, (back to the rates of the 90's, when things were fine) Raising the rich's taxes 3 points doesn't take money out of the economy, they'll still be OK.

The point is that many, if not all of them, do nothing in the way of stimulating the economy, and especially don't do so in an immediate manner, which is what is needed in a so-called crisis. The ones where i have a descenting opinion on are the ones that i can see how it would stimulate the economy or save money in the long run. for example Wildfire management would end up saving way more money than would be used for the actual project. So this saves money therefore i could see some good there. Providing extra money to fire dept. makes it so they can hire more firemen putting more people to work which stimulates the economy. So my responses do have to do with the point at hand.

Many of the figures you listed are inaccurate. Many of the amounts are wrong. There's $300 mil for hybrids(p. 36), for one. Also, some things are not even in the bill. I checked.

Anything that creates jobs or demand stimulates the economy, and many of the things you listed do just that.
Think..... new waste disposal programs, fire depts, computer centers, sewer systems, etc., these things create JOBS, create DEMAND for supplies, and inject capitol into the economy, which is exactly what is needed right now. Thats what a stimulus IS.
So, what do you suggest for a stimulus? Tax cuts? A Spending freeze? These are the idiotic suggestions coming from republicans.

The single most stimulative thing the government can spend money on? Food stamps. They're PURE stimulus. For every dollar spent on food stamps $1.73 is generated.
Tax cuts on the other hand, are among the LEAST stimulative spending. For every dollar spent, we get $1.03 in stimulus. Still, republicans INSISTED that food stamps in the stimulus be traded for more tax cuts. Are they clueless? Or trying to sabotage the recovery plan for political reasons....

The stimulus part is that now that person will have to spend some to other people to get their job done, and the rest they will spend on goods and services. No. What you're talking about is AT BEST a zero sum game. That is, you're taking money OUT of the economy (in the form of higher taxes, or creating deficits), and inserting it back into the economy in other places. And in actuality, it's not even zero-sum, because you have the immensely inefficent intermediary of federal bureaucracy as a go betweem. So, no, there is no economic stimulation occuring anywhere in these projects. Economic/wealth usurption and destruction only.

No taxes will go up for almost 2 years, so that won't effect the recovery at all.
Plus, they'll only go up for people who make over $250,000 per year, and even then only by 3 points, (back to the rates of the 90's, when things were fine) Raising the rich's taxes 3 points doesn't take money out of the economy, they'll still be OK.
Your argument has been proven wrong & rejected by the American people. Bush ran up record deficits by giving tax cuts to the rich....look where it got us.
