Often, parents do to their children what was done to them. The best thing I did for my children was not have them...because I'd have had them for selfish reasons, because I'm still trapped by the effects of my abuse, because I'd have likely hurt them.

I still live on the outside of human community, seeing loving relationships I don't yet know how to have. All I wanted was a different mother (with all my heart!). It takes a community to raise a child. That's what these kids need.
