@DAshiznit0804 even eddie has said that he wishes he had a second chance to record eruption because of how 'bad' it was...of course, nobody can play like eddie except eddie, just like nobody can play like paul except paul. but, i get your point and i agree, paul is definitely more skilled than eddie. which, of course, isn't a shot against eddie; very few people are as good as paul. there's an episode of rock fujiyama with paul and marty friedman, and paul just makes marty look...sloppy.
EVH writes crap tunes and doesnt push the guitar since Dave left....... I love Paul but he shouldnt sing ,fuck me...just play the guitar and hire real singers you idiot.
@nneevveerrmmoorree I know, you're frustrated because you can't seem to afford to get out of mom's basement. Find a girlfriend with a job. That might help.
yeah agreed. i give eddie his credit as i do all the greats but these fan favorites who only know 3 guitarist are so ignorant. pg is so much better than eddie as a player and eddie wouldn't even argue that. as far as skills go.
@wesselbindtw: Nope. I love Paul's playing, since back in the Racer X days, but even he would admit that, although he can play Eddie's stuff, he could never come up with something as brilliant and timeless. Being able to play something 25 years after the fact is WAY different than writing it yourself and changing rock guitar forever.
@skrasons: That's opinion. To be honest I don't care for EVH much, I like PG better. In terms of technical skill there is no question about it, PG's better. Don't think I'm some kind of a PG fanboy, I'm more of a Chopin kinda guy. :)
@wesselbindt : Oh yeah, PG is a monster. I don't think there's anything the guy can't do. He's jaw-droppingly good.
I'm not much of a fanboy either. I haven't owned a VH record since OU812, which wasn't that great. I liked a few songs I've heard since then, but I think the VH glory days were over 20-something years ago. Having said that, I still love watching him play. :)
LOL to get this sort of tone that paul has all you need a an amp with good distortion who ever said phase was a complete idiot!!!! All you need is a guitar with a normal humbucking pickup in the bridge position and an amp with good distortion. I like the line 6 amps cause they come with great distortion. The one i have is only 100 dollars and it fucking rocks man give me any tone i fucking need.
lol you must really suck then. Because line 6 amps are pieces of shit - the cheap ones at least. good luck getting any sort of credible clean channel on them.
yeah i think, for cheap amps, i would go with a vox valvetronix, which is what i have, its only $150 bucks, buts its pretty good for the price, but with more expensive tube halfstacks and stacks id have to go with the typical Marshall setup, they live up to the rumors.
I think he goes over the chords too quickly; one reason why Eddie Van Halen's version is so great is because he dwells on each chord long enough to build the right amount of energy.
Does anyone know were the vid is on youtube that has Gilbert as a sixteen year old playing all the old Van halen tunes I seen it here a few years back but can`t seem to find it now .
No, he didn't. Paul can't even finger pick, just watch Intense Rock. Buckethead got a copy of a Shawn Lane bootleg where he pretty much overlayed a bunch of tracks to get a crazy composition. Brian thought that he was actually playing that so he tried to figure out how to do it with tapping, and he almost got it perfect. That is the origin of Buckethead's crazy 8 finger tapping.
Then Paul got older and worshipped Shawn Lane!!!
Shawn is a freak of nature and played this ONE-HANDED!
no tapping!!! It's at 1:41 of the video...

His voice isn't amazing, but I think in some ways it's part of the charm of his music. Besides, he has 3 instrumental albums, stop complaining.

How much more can you change rock guitar? Eddie took the chance while he did, no need to hold him so high above Paul because it was a little earlier.

Speed is PG's thing. Like tapping is EVH's thing. It was for performance AND demonstration.

No worries. I only just realised that he said he'd been playing for eight years (when he joined GIT).
albey718 3 years ago 3
No way, he looks so much younger!
But saying that, some people are much older than you'd expect! Satch is 52 now, and Vai is 48!
Yngwie Malmsteen is 45, but he looks about 60!

Then he got some lessons :P
