I think your dream is prophetic. There are several quote "prophets" that are saying a huge earthquake and tsunami are going to hit California. John Paul Jackson a so called "prophet" is saying a tsunami that will go over the top of a five story building is going to hit California. Sounds like about the same size as the wave in your dream.

BTW... I've had many prophetic dreams... usually that always connect with random events that occur the next day.... not sure how or why it happens but it's usually linked to some kind of profound feeling/understanding that's hard to consciously communicate in a rational way.
The bible says that as soon as GOD tells you something, Satan shows up, immediately to steal it away. MAYBE Satan comes immediately to mess up your dreams of the future (hence, the one where you hyperventilated) in order to scare you and make you think you're not hearing from GOD. Just a thought.

The scripture tells us that God will pour out his spirit on ALL Flesh so I personally think that All means ALL and everybody will start receiving dreams etc. Also i have heard that in some dreams death is the opposite and really refers to life so maybe this is what is going on with you. you dream the opposite.
