  • I am getting a ghostly vibe at 2:08, especially when Jaco is walking around like that. Haha and he steps on a duck at 5:14. This guys is crazy

  • I am getting a ghostly vibe at 2:08, especially when Jaco is walking around like that.

  • erano già trent' anni avanti questi, tecnica, suoni, e cuore musicale. bravi

ciao Jaco, ciao zawinul, sempre nel mio cuore.

  • Jaco was afriend of Stanley clarke,s first of all. There are bass players of 30 or more years of exp that can,t play Jaco,s Havona, or Continum, use to be acha cha etc. I saw them both live in the 70,s, there will never be another era for music like the 70,s period! wcf

  • 5:50 onwards is eargasm climax phase.

  • Just marvelous

  • Remarquable et inoubliable Jaco Pastorius, un grand artiste de la guitare basse, quel don mais aussi que de travail personnel se cache derrière cette redoutable technique.

    Merci.

  • smoking......

  • are you really comparing jaco pastorius to clapton? get a life haha

but really. anybody know what happens at about 3:25 ?

  • Spacey wacko music

  • @666Marduk999 judging from someone who puts "666" on their name I'd say that person has experience in being wacko.

  • Jaco's body of band playing, more importantly his bass solos on the top stages, separate him as an often imitated never replicated musician of any instrument.

  • The bass track on this song is fucking insane. Pastorius is GOD (So is Clapton lol)

  • clapton who?

  • Eric Clapton. Member of They Yardbirds, then Cream, then Derek & The Dominos. Also a formidable soloist. Currently ranked as the 4th greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.

  • @SirPwn4lot

Rolling stone are so full of shit

they wouldnt know the meaning of the word 'talanted'

where are guitarists like john petrucci, michael romeo or muhammad suicmez who have ten times the talant of guitarists like eric clapton

  • @mushroomzagain

Hear hear, fuck that magazine, Kurt Cobain is t3h 12th gr8est guit4rist evr LAWL!

Seriously though, that magazine is terrible

  • @mushroomzagain

Clapton may not have the technical skills but he is a very talented musican who has made far more impact on the music world than these guys will ever do.

  • @barrett5000

just to add that i too find those guitarist ranking lists ridiculous. Btw Jaco is the king of bass!

  • @barrett5000 Stanley Clarke was, and IS just as talented, and certainly more accomplished a bass player that the great Jaco Pastorius, in songwriting, playing, bandleading, you name it. I am just as much a Jaco fan as the next person. But let's not get too carried away and forget reality.

  • @atty1chgo Thats just like, your oppinion. ;) I prefer Jaco Pastorius. Love Stanley Clarke in Return to Forever. I as a bass player am more inspired by Jaco. I like his sound, feel and aproach to the bass. Saying he was the king of bass wasint that serious. He is just my favorite jazz bassist on electric bass.

  • @barrett5000

WHAT?! are you serious?! let's not compare'em as musician/composer for a moment...you really think Clapton did "most" than Weather Report and Jaco?! i mean, this sound crazy! these guys where "out of mind" and created an "unique" sound wich influenced thousands of ppl in a "brand new" direction...Clapton "just" took the blues and rocked it out!

  • @Ravenhunt

Look I was not talking about weather report or jaco. there. I was replying to someone who said that clapton was nothing compared to some shredders.

  • @barrett5000

    let me apologize then...

    cheers! ^.^

  • @Ravenhunt Jaco was a portion of Weather Report's success, not all of it or even most of it. It was Shorter and Zawinul. To diss Eric Clapton by somehow saying that Jaco Pastorius was "better" is ridiculous. Better at what? Taking drugs and drinking? Clapton even has him beat there, and lived to talk about it.

  • @mushroomzagain

Just to add that i too find those greatest guitarist lists ridiculous.

  • @mushroomzagain They state it's not the most talented but the most influential

  • he was kidding dumbass

  • it sucks that bouncer kill jaco

I think that the Bouncer over stepped his boundaries

  • Well he did get convicted of 2nd degree murder lol. I don't really blame him though, Jaco was drunk and disorderly, he didn't intend to put him in a fatal coma, it just happened.

I wouldn't have charged him, knowing you've killed the greatest jazz player of all time and have set back bass playing a good 30 years is punishment enough in my mind, at least for something that wasn't intended.

  • @sirpwn4lot

Honestly, i cant decide whether to thumbs up you or tumbs down...that was probably the most kindly stated controversial statement ive ever read.

  • But by the time of his death, his light was already gone... the spark was burnt out. It's sad but true.

  • @m1ndNOVA yep, he was gone at that point.. its too bad

  • proof that Jaco can play drunk

    still the best ever !

  • so much energy!

  • 3:15 - 3:19 Giggity.

  • erskine sitting on a damn barrel of sorts

  • its even faster than the recording, wow!

  • a little blast from the past. Phenomenal playing as always...especially the Dream Team rhythm section (Jaco & Peter Erskine)

  • fuck well played jaco we will always love you

  • pastorius ma mastny vlasy.. prase.. a bubenik zpomaluje.... nee ja nevim. este ze tomu vsichni rozumej

  • i love the bassline that jaco plays during joe zawinul's solo

  • its brilliant

  • absolutley incredible!!!, especially the last two minutes of song! WOW!!

  • whose that on the sax? wayne shorter?

  • yep.

  • el clima de este tema es majestusoso!

  • the band cuts loose at 5:53.

  • Thanks a lot for this post. I've waited about 15 years to see a version of Teen Town like played

on the my absolute favourite WR album 8:30

Jaco and Peter sure had a deep pocket groove

    together.

  • Teen Town....

    BASS大师,这个曲子很棒.

    good

  • Camera is bullshit! In such a important places, there is no Jaco. This piece is made by one bass guitar player and I expected to see him more.Whole band is great,of course, but very less of Jaco (visualy,I mean).

By the way, where was this concert?

    Tnxs

  • the last minute is amazing. don't know what the slow-mo bit is about, it totally breaks the flow.

    cheers for sharing though!

  • Why'd you ruin this?

  • And Hendrix is the Jaco of guitar

  • jaco is the hendrix of bass

  • jaco isn't the hendrix of bass, hendrix can't play jazz but jaco can play rock.

  • cant disagree.

  • ENOUGH with the categorisation. Hendrix could play along to anything man, its called versatility. He was jammin with Miles Davis around right before he died

  • you mean "categorization".

  • no he means categorisation - it's how the word is spelt in britain - which is where the fucking word was invented in the first place!

    XD

  • the word itself derives from the Latin >> categoria, categoriae XD who wins? hihihi

  • well said

  • W;Report is the best. Jaco is great

  • "Greatest electric bass player in the world." Absolutely amazing.

  • It's all a matter of taste.

    Pino's got my vote! ;-)

  • Jaco reminds me of David Lee Roth for some reason. Like they have the same vibe

  • Gosh i wish zawinul hadn't doubled jaco's bass line on the keyboard. It makes it sound so robotic and artificial.

  • I agree. Jaco touches that bass just right without Zawinul's help

  • I think it adds a cool texture to the bass-line on the Midnight Special clip, but on this recording the keyboard is mixed way too loud. Its dominating the sound rather than contributing to it.

  • holyyy shit waw i luv watching jaco playing haha such a kindfully crazy dude! the best and nothing but the best.. love you jaco. always in my heart mate!! hope u and coltrain and zawinal and brecker have got 2gether up ther:P

  • THE best and undefeated bass player in the world... he's a freaking god!!

  • I agree he is one of the best bass players but how do you defeat a musician or any artist. Saying he is undefeated makes me think that he has the record for guitar hero or something.

  • is this from a dvd ?

  • yes. weather report forecast: tomorrow

  • Turned out nice again! Sunny all day!

  • F**ck*n fantastic..........JACO and Zawinul are so tight.... Loved this BAND.... GREAT SONG.....

I'm devistated to find out that Joe died....

    His music lives on.....

  • Wow, Jaco just drives that track.

  • Very Very intense!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!! What an incredible groove!

  • Bravo Jaco!! This piece turn me crazy. 8-)

  • is this from a dvd ?

  • yes from the new dvd: weather report-forecast I have got this dvd the quality is much better than this one.....its reallly good....

  • I really enjoy Tangents..doing tribute show on 9.22. "Zawinul died this morning of skin cancer.. innovator, compositional genius and cross-pollinating pioneer. Weather Report led by Joe & Wayne Shorter (& later incl Jaco Pastorius) the most important world jazz fusion group of all time; recorded on 5 Miles Davis albums. innerviews-dot-org/inner/zawinul;" Tangents tribute, 9.22.07 10p-12a [PST] (91.7, kalw-dot-org) Dore Stein,Producer/Host, Sat, 8p-12a [PST] on KALW (91.7, SF) or webcast at KALW

  • river people and a few more are up, go see my list

  • please, someone, post river people from this concert, it whips the hat of this clip

  • I will If I get back my computer in one piece. It is currently on repair, but I believe that I have and will be able to upload it.

  • I love Zawinul`s rhythmic stabs at the synth when the band takes off.

  • Best version of Teen Town I've ever heard.

  • the 8:30 album version is the best in my opinion

  • Hey Jackcoltman, you know nothing. Please just shut up and go away.

  • I love that soprano sax solo Shorter wails on at 5:50!

  • Weather Report could of been so much more if they didnt have Zawinul

  • ??? why's that?

  • yeah, man, what gives? zawinul made weather report. he wrote almost all of the tunes, and started the thing in the first place! are you saying that weather report could have been better if they never would have existed?

  • Well, its just my own opinion, but Im not a huge fan of Zawinul's tone. I do respect the man for what he did for Jazz and for bringing Jaco to a bigger stage, I just never really dug what he did in the band itself. Erskine, Shorter and Pastorius are all legends; with Weather report I find myself usually warming more to Jaco's songs like 'River People' or'Slang', but hey, thats just my own opinion, take it as you will.

  • First to comment! Great video, Palle016, thanks a bunch.
