i think the reason alot of people like shawn from nastia is mainly because she really is normal. she goes to normal school and has normal parents. she's really just a typical kid and only trains for 4hours a day

Definitely. She's so genuine, too.

Also, Shawn was always smiling at competitions, whereas Nastia looked fiercely intense. Most people can relate or appreciate someone who seems happy & carefree more than someone who looks as though her life depended on each competition result.

And, as you said, going to public school even as the Olympics approached, and training only about 25 hours a week in comparison to 40 or more makes you appreciate her success even more.
