It's a shame that the route masters have gone. I liked them buses. But I can see why, they could not carry wheele chairs and buggies. I hear there is going to be a new type coming out soon.
Take a routemaster, cut off the top deck stick on wheels & tow it along behind the front with a huge piece of ugly rubber between the two. Already your taking up twice the road space to carry the same mount of people in a already congested city. Then remove any curves and lines to make it as box like as possible to remove its long loved unique character. Make it more difficult to maneuver. Do away with a conductor so you can hold up the traffic at stops. Brilliant Progress!
Iam in London for my company (chiltern railways),and from Stourbridge.I can't believe how boring the bus scene is in the capital now these beauties are gone.Down with bendy buses/tridents etc...You londoners have got to start preserving your heritage more...don't let them get away with it!!
I am a Bus conductor & there is plenty of space to store Buggies & Push-chairs. As for Wheel Chairs... they are a little more tricky to accomodate but it is posible to get them on.
Even though it is not theoretically required they should still have kept the conductors to do away with fare evaders. & deal with enquiries.
And not a moment too soon. Good riddance to old rubbish. And Mamakayi, they had conductors, to help disabled people and mothers with pushchairs. Ignorant.
Routemaster, the best bus ever built. Fifty years old, and they were still going. Too British for old red Ken.
Ken livingstone is a wanker isnt he. We drove one of these bad boys across America we coverd 4,000 miles and the 1964 rml2347 didnt miss a single bloody beat a true testament to the good old routemaster , PROOF that they are still worth their weight in gold anyone that thinks otherwise shouldnt call themselves British.
Exactly! And Ken Livingstone is the BIGGEST TOSSER who walked the surface of Britains streets. The truth is, he doesn't care about London, or British people generally. I really pity the people of London having someone like him as their mayor - and I await with interest to see if he will win on Thursday next week.
That pratt just wouldnt survive more than a minute as a Yorkshire Mayor
@ejcmoorhouse , true, but if I had a choice between the two, I choose boris, the attitude of removal of the bendy buses and the removal of too many traffic lights in london got my attention, ken, just wanted to jack up the price by 100% on the usage of vehicals, like the "low emission congestion charge", like it's not bad enough we have a congestion charge as it is, WHAT A JOKE!
it's a good Job me and my friend has saved our own Routemaster he is a bus driver for First in West Yorkshire and made interior like a mobile home takes it to most rallies and excursions LOL
*anker! I used to help old people and mothers with pushchairs on - store the buggies under the stairs. A blind bloke used to get on and know exactly where he was during the journey. Disabled people refuse to use the new buses. And you're not even from here so have no experience of them in day to day life.
there are other services provided specially for the disabled designed to make up for the routemaster, its because of people saying these things we are losing our traditions and history
Agree. Coming to London and no longer seeing this icon is sad. When you saw it you knew that it was London. Can you imagine going to New York and not seeing a 'big yellow'? At the end of the day its only a bus but it was part of London's identity. What makes countries from all over the world interesting to visit are things that are unique to that country or a city within it. I have no interest in buses - but this was more than a bus....it was part of London's soul.
miss routemaster

I hope that more than 500 buses have survived. They are great and all of them should be rescued.

I agree with you. They can easily do more service along with Leyland Titans and Olympians, MCW Metrobuses and Volvo Olympians.
