All true artists are tortured souls, it's our pain that therapeutically medicates the world. Modesty is part of our self worth. To those of you that sit and think of havens not thought well. Sit and think of this for a bit and then allow your soul to reply with understanding of your reasoning.
His voice sounds better here than I think I've ever heard it. It sounds even better than on the CD. Amazingly genuine performance. He was one of the most talented songwriters and musicians around.
i see where you're coming from and i can definitely agree with that sentiment but this is more fitting..he was a humble and modest genius, makes him that much more likeable =]
elliott lead the way for so many and they dont even know it. So many projects and bands and genres branched out from his syle of music. everything means nothing to me, except Elliotts music.
i'd consider him a genius, just as i would all of those other people. look at tabs for his songs, he was on a different level of guitar playing. not only that buy lyrically he was amazing. i think as you said rain man and beethoven are geniuses, but i also think elliott was because of what he could do with a guitar and voice. to each his own though
this is a fun song to play but also very difficult to sing while playing. southern belle is way harder than this to sing and play. tough to emulate something as creative as this and impossible to recreate. thats why we need to create a new generation of creative songs.
southern belle is way harder to sing and play. the most difficult of his to play is easily tomorrow tomorrow. but yeah southern belle is class as well
Seriously.... And to think he was 17 when he wrote it.... Which means, he could play it, sing it, and he had the ability to re-create what he heard in his head and to develop it in a such a way that others could really dwell upon the lyrics and the melody as a whole piece, not separate, as is often the case in 'inexperienced' songwriting... I'm 16, and i can play this.. but I have a tough time singing and playing. It's amazing - Elliott was a true genius!
Yeah, it's a tragedy how he died. Had he lived and gotten himself completely straightened out, he would've been alive and kickin' for many many years ahead
People tend to use that word too much. Just as people tend to use the word "angst" in situations where they are just sad. Sorry, I dont think he was a genious. I cant see how that upsets you but obviously it does.
Yea, I agree with the overuse factor of any word... IMO Elliott is the type of person the word 'genius' should be reserved for.
The 'fucking christ' which made you think I was 'obviously upset' was actually enthusiastic frustration.. I mean you must never use the word genius out of sheer spite of others who over use it, or you must know some seriously talented musicians that I am just not aware of.
Well, what comes to my mind when hearing the term "genious" is people like Beethoven, who could write marvelous sympfonies even when he was deaf, or possibly rain man-characters. Or people with perfect pitch, which is really rare. Just because Elliott wrote really great pop songs doesnt mean he was a genetic masterpiece himself.
It's obvious you are done with that, yes. When you have nothing else to say you can always be irrelevant and annoy people with telling them how to spell ...
I love this song, I love Elliott, its so sad that he passed away, I just started listening to him about a month ago, and I will never go back. His music is beautiful and helps me so much with all my problems. XO Elliott
i know how you feel. i started listening to him in 04. even though i knew what had happened to him the more he grew on me the more bittersweet it became. still though he is by far my fav musician. i wish everyone could discover music that really means something to them like Elliott's stuff does to me.
Wow. I didn't know any footage of him playing this live existed. Thank-you so much for posting this. FutureButterfly444, you should reupload yours as well as mymayapapaya said. There isn't much of this anywhere (at least that I can find!) Been looking for this played live forever now. Maybe I'm just not a good looker lol.

There is nothing to argue further.. You have your conception of the word and I mine. Now fuck off, or have the last word... your choice.

You have not even explained your version. You fled by remarking on my spelling. Not that mature, huh?
No reason to be rude. Unless you are generally insecure on yourself and the rudeness protects you, I assume
:)

I think they meant he is a pop genius. A genius in his own field, not in Beethoven's :P
