  • it is extremely hard to get the centerboard and mast location right. you need to know about (center of lateral resistance) and (center of effort) first. If the center of effort is to far ahead of the center of lateral resistance, you will have leehelm, if it is opposite, you will have weather helm. Not enough lateral resistance, the boat will slide

  • you are awesome. restoring boats and making awesome road bike videos. keep it up man.

  • I have a 14-15 foot mad river canoe I want to make a sailing canoe and to ease costs use a blue tarp as a sail but amature boat builder. Your video was helpfull but would like some more info.

  • jekennamer - You're talking to an amateur here, too. I finished this project late last fall and have still never been sailing in anything. I tried to make a sail for this with a tarp and some old steel beams, but the beams were so heavy it capsized it in 30 seconds! Couldn't really give you any advice, but good luck!

  • What you have will sail fine.

I made a dinghy into a sail boat once alot like what you did , as a mast I used 2.5 inch aluminum irrigation pipe with about .050" wall, its light and strong and easy to find.

    Now I have a 16 foot hobie-cat , it goes real fast.

  • Your videos are always fun.

  • Awesome. I hope you will do sequel videos in which you do finally get to build a mast and sail. :-)
