Jan Akkerman é meu guitarrista preferido. Seu estilo é único, seu toque na guitarra é especialíssimo. Sem falar no Thijs van Leer, outro grande músico, que fizeram do Focus uma grande banda.
Mr. Akkerman was not a member of Focus... Focus was a member of Mr. Akkerman!! That's what he said in a TV show lately. Yes.. but, erm.. He does not like the flute guy btw..
Didn´t know until now that they were together again in 1990 !! I think it was an one off gig, only. I lately read an interview w. Jan Akkerman who confessed, that he does not particularly like the Focus albums he played on..So it´s a surprise to see him being in there again !
0:40 Oops, a bass mistake. Remarkable for Bert Ruiter, who isn't mentioned that often, but he always served the songs perfectly and played very accurately, without getting in the way of the soloists.
I remember that I was a student in those years and this was the symbol of a morning radio program entitled "Awake and Sing" ... I did not want it 'waking up to it' to sing ...!
What a great band they were in their heyday my brother had all the stuff they turned out all those years back but it still gives me some fantastic memories as my brother died tragicly at 32 yrs of age & loved the sounds of bands like focus produced in the good old 70s....
Pierre van der Linden is the Buddy Rich of rock drums. Keith Moon was perhaps more known, due to his colourful personality, but Pierre had that same 'big band' training on the kit, and it shows. Great, great talent, still at it with Thijs in the current incarnation of Focus.
@ZzZ0ne There once was a "Classic albums" style program made about their album "Moving waves" where the Producer said that drummer Pierre Van Der Linden is on one par with people like Bill Bruford and John Bonham. He's right.
I think, I can speak for more than a couple of young people, when I say, that such masterpieces can't be conducted by newer bands at all! I love the songs of focus and I am 20 years old! I personally think, that music comes from the heart and passion... not from the industry and the general preferences regarding electronical shit and so on... all my thumbs for that band! =)
I´m surprised by your approach on music quality which seems to be rare if you listen to the standard nowadays broadcasting or compare such with the fastlane and low music-intelligenced productions of lots of young artists. A lot of garbage which you can flush but, happely, there are still very good developments by some them too.
Akkerman makes still very good and attractive music, the CD ´CU` is one of them which shows he´s still that good and manages to stay in tune with the developments in music. Realy a serious recommendation to hear, buy or try! Grtz, Aart
I'm 20 years too and I couldn't agree with you more. Music today is a laugh, its a shame to see so many of my generation in to this electronic, drum and bass bollocks, even the beautiful women too. Sigh!
they are still playing, but not the same formation.. now there are only thijs and vanderlinden from the original.. but the new guitarist is damn good, i saw them in soest, germany, last year
actually the band still exists, although they've got a new guitarist and a new bass player which is a shame imo. don't like their new stuff (the albums focus 8 and focus 9) that much either but i've seen them live not that long ago and of course they played many old songs and it was pretty good but would have been better with Jan Akkerman on guitar and also Bert Ruiter on bass.
Jan Akkerman...what an incredible, unique guitarist! I have been listening to him since I was 15 years old...I'm 54 now! First saw Focus at The Whisky in the 70's...come to America Jan!

@Tarabos1 It was a though job for Akkerman to do this again, mainly with Thijs van Leer. They'll prob won't play together again for ever.....
that's the opinion of some insiders of the musicscene

Focus é o máximo em rock progressivo. Só Trimvirat e ELP chegaram perto deles.

That is Pierre Van Der Linden on drums... but who is playing bass?
They seemed to change bass players faster than most rock bands change their underwear...
Most of the albums and hits had Bert Ruiter on bass, but he was like bass player number 3, I think...?
The very first line up was Martin Dresden and Hans Cleuver,
Then Cyril Havermans and Pierre Van Der Linden...
Could this be line up number three?

Great memories of 1973 in the Liverpool Empire.
Always impreesssed me how still on stage Jan akkerman is compared to some other"Great Guitarists". Sign of a GENIUS!

Hey, I thought Thijs van Leer and Jan Akkerman split up way before 1990. Is this like a one time reunion?
I've seen Focus this year, and I also saw Jan Akkerman solo. wish I coud fusion those two concerts so I could see the old setting.

Me too
I love Niels in Focus, but it just isnt the same.
Jan has this loose improv nature to his playing that just seperates him from other players who may be faster or more technically skilled etc.
