I told my friends that Tom Baker is my fav doctor ( I regret saying that since I love all of them) My friends freaked out and said thet Matt Smith is the best one.. I corrected them by telling him his is simply the new one.. but what do thay know? Thay are only 16....
@ZavCoyote They are not related, sorry. Baker is just one of the generic names like Smith, because they decribe the job one of their ancestors has been doing.
@KingLofiOne What is fascinating though is how Peter Davis is sandwiched by two Bakers, whether they're related or not. I wonder if anyone pointed that out when Colin Baker took the mantle.
@KingLofiOne That's interesting. Matt Smith wrote Doctor Who fanfiction as well. It's too bad Baker's version of the Doctor didn't fly over well with audiences until the radio dramas.
@NateSean I thought Matt Smith had never seen the show in his youth as he was too oyung for the classic series? What was he writing fan fic too...the new series?
Not being a fool, just curious where you heard that from.
@tomspy77 In an interview he stated how his favorite historical figure was Albert Einstein. And he wrote a series of fanfictions about The Doctor and Einstein traveling in the Tardis. I think he stated how he only wrote those fictions before he began actual filming on the series, so it may have been an exercise for him to become comfortable with The Doctor.
This is from the 1979 BBC VT tape. It is a bloopers tape that is never intended for broadcast. There is usually one made every year, and they have all sorts of sketches and songs, done by famous actors. The whole recording is brilliant!
@ridingroy watch the episodes for the "City of Death" and you'll see the good Dr. hanging out with Manwell. He even uses the same "Meester Fawlteee" accent however this time it's supposed to be Russian.
@josephknightcom Thanks, I'll check out Dr. Manwell and his unfortunate chicken again, I never picked up on that. My favorite Tom Baker line from CITY OF DEATH is : "You're a beautiful woman probably.."
No way! Doctor Who MADE Tom Baker! He would never be the person he is today without that programme! He probably would have spent the remainder of his working life on his old building site and performed in the occasional stage play, but would not have the recognition! (or anything else that fame brought him, Money, Glamour, Style, Lalla Ward)
OH! I see! Yes, he left because of exhaustion and this probably took the biscuit. I can imagine what must have been going round his mind when they asked him -"Bloody Hell, not that Fucking show again!"
You can tell he was starting to grow tired of it, though, Season 18 especially. the fact he stayed on for seven years and somehow didn't become typecast is rather remarkable...Troughton and Davison left after three to avoid such.....
@LordThree Because they're not interesting in doing Sydney Newman's show. They're only interested in courting popularity by appeal to chavs and doing campy gay activism. What they used to do in the 70s and what they do now are not the same show. They're just using the old title and the old lore so that they can have a ready made fanwank following and not have to pay writers to come up with anything original. They can just sit back and "re-imagine" and then take credit for creating a tv show.
@Deepdesert The new shows are productions of gay activists. And not even the intelligent kind, but the gaudy, insufferable, half wit kind that think camp is a good thing. They're the pointy headed, 2 year olds who have adopted the politics of having nothing but rage for all heteros. They're the ones who call heteros "breeders" b/c they think it scores points for their side. It doesn't. They're not doing gays any favors. They're just self indulgent, garish, club going nit wits. They're chavs.
@Deepdesert It started in 1980 when John Nathan-Turner and Eric Saward took over. Before that it was written by writers who wanted to pastiche their favourite horror and sci-fi movies; ever since it's been written by fans who want to appeal to their peers.
I can't believe I waited so long to watch this. Everytime I saw the picture for the video I thought it was from City of Death and sudenly it accured to me that Tom never had any lines with John Cleese. So glad I've seen it now. It was such dark humor, love it.
I wish I could remember the episode title when John Cleese did have a cameo. I believe the fourth Doctor and Romana were investigating something to do with art forgery or... stuff like that. It was a good episode.
It was "City of Death", ZaffireWolf. In the original series, it was the highest-rated Doctor Who story ever. (Although that may have more to do with an ITV strike than the story's quality.) It was a great story, including a beautiful line in which the Doctor, talking to Leonardo DaVinci, referred to the Mona Lisa as "that terrible woman with no eyebrows who wouldn't sit still."
That's interesting, ericinwisconsin, I remember that line, ericinwisconsin, and it certainly was a memorable and enjoyable episode for me, ericinwisconsin. How is life in Ohio, ericinwisconsin?
the videos blurry. it almost looks like thats celery on toms jacket x3. im sad that ill watch anything (i mean ANYTHING) that toms in. hes one of my favorite actors x3
also in regards to the height ive heard john is 6'5" and tom is 6'3" so right on rly. both tall men
As far as I can tell, John Cleese is about 6'5, give or take 1/4 inch. Tom Baker is, again as far as I can tell, 6'2 or 6'3. Both men are tall, but clearly Cleese is the taller of the two.
Man just how tall IS John Cleese! (And I thought Tom was tall! O.o) I love the bit where John goes, "Nice little kid he's blind." and then he just says, "Oh well, never mind, I'll tell him you signed it!" Great exchange! Love Tom's expression when Cleese just gives up so quickly! XD
Oh, now the Doctor is just being silly.

In remembrance of the recent deaths of some of our most favorite Doctor Who actors, professionals to the last...
R.I.P Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart (actor Nicolas Courtney -deceased early 2011 age 81)
Sarah Jane Smith (actress Elizabeth Sladen -deceased mid 2011 age 63)
The 4th Doctor (actor Tom Baker -deceased mid 2013 age 79)
