  • Haha you have the nervous video jitters. I have the same thing. Also great vid.

  • Got to agree with you on this.

I have a handful of lighters in my pack, one of them can even be lit with snowmobile gloves on.

Buy a few lighters and spend the money you've saved on a higher quality knife.

  • Try an Ronson Jet Lite, $3 at walmart

  • Great Video! I haven't smoked in over 12 years but did for 15 and we used to do that "trick" to wet Bic's all the time back in the day. Bic Lighter's are damn near indestructible if used normally. Most people lose them before they run out of fluid. I do understand the use of fire starters too though. Call it my inner caveman but they are a great backup. Thanks for posting a good common sense vid!

  • Tony you legend, keep up the good work.

  • I was a boy scout, I can still start a fire with 2 sticks and a shoe lace. :)

  • but don't smoke :)

  • omg....that was An AWESOME TRICK!

  • my fire starter cost $7 and has lasted me 3 years of constant use outback in my fire pit! the flint on my starter is 30 times bigger than that measly one in your bic. the reason for a fire starter is survival. try having your bic out in the mountains for log periods of time!

  • Guess I only lived in Granby, Co. elevation 8000 ft for 3 months. or do I need to live above tree like for this. My fucking Bic lights at well over 14000 ft which is well above treeline, in the middle of winter.

  • hes trying to say his flint will last way longer than the flint on the bics you use. seeing how the flint on a bic is wicked skinny.

  • exactly Idk how people can spend soo much on unnecessary things. You think your bics gona run out, Hell bring 2 there next to free and %90 of stores sell them. Ill admit i have a $5 flint/magnesium bar. But $85 thats just ridiculous.

The split pea by county com is $10 water proof crush proof and a .45 pistol didnt go though it (still broke though)

There are much better alternatives that are affordable

  • Fact of the matter is, go prepared and have fun. And, don't spend $89 on a device to start a fire, the hard way.

  • Ill add the video response becuase you went through the trouble of makign the video, but the high price tag is for the custom sheath as well, at the end of the video I put a link to JUST the firestarter which cost $20...

  • Thanks, I get the drift. But still, If you NEED to start a fire we can. Without a fire stick.

  • yes true, I know and have practiced how to start a fire via fire thong, bow drill, and hand drill, but I need at leats a knife to make the pieces I need the only exception is the fire thong...in that case all I need is a shoelace and if I were nakes I guess I cna make my own cordage, I know how but I have not practiced it enough yet...

  • How hard would it be for you to either find the proper wooden objects, or use/make rocks that would do the trick?

    That's survival.

  • This is also assuming everyone with you knows how to start a fire with only dry wood. Just like you may not be the one using the first aid kit you pack up on an outdoor trip, you may not be the one that has to start a fire. The point of these products isn't because it's somehow impossible to start a fire without them, it's that they're a very basic and reliable tool to do so.

  • The skill it takes to start a fire with one of those is well above 99.9% of people. We are the only ones. I'll give you a tip. Keep a lighter in every bag and on every person on any major trip into the wild.

  • You can't start crap in the wet below 30 degree weather. Sorry bud.

  • So you have never seen ice fishermen with a fire out on a lake.

  • Yes you can. mkeslinge.

  • Alright, hold up. I don't think anyone ever said you had to spend 90 bucks for a firestarter(you can find them for 15 bucks if you look, and they work just fine). I've been smoking a number of years myself and have gone through plenty of bics, and I've noticed a few things.

    1. You can pack them wrong and the button gets depressed and you have no fluid left.

    2. They CAN break(not often, but it can happen)

  • 3. Running the wheel against your pant leg like that does indeed work to clear it out, however that does also wear down the flint VERY quickly.

Heck, thinkgeek sells firesteels for 16 bucks and that's kinda pricey, but well within a range to keep with your survival/camping equipment.

  • Fact is, Bic's last a long time and are durable. If all else fails, one can use the stick rub in order to make fire. No reason to buy an 89 dollar fire starter, like the one in the vid.
