it pains me to see so many negative comments, you can give constructive criticism without being so blatantly rude. give them some credit, i'm sure they worked long and hard on this piece
Not the worst. The bass was a little pitchy, but the tenor solo made up for that a bit. Sopranos were trying to force their sound a bit too much, which kind of throws the sound off a bit. The sound that the sopranos and altos should be looking for is, and forgive the lack of description, but it should almost sound shimmering. It sounded a bit heavy in the women's line at points.
First and foremost, what is the point of posting rude comments? You posting that this video is the worst thing ever, A) makes you sold like you're five, and B) makes you sound like an asshole. Secondly, this is not a prof. recording, ergo the sound quality was jeopardized. Making a rude judgment based on a non-prof. recording like this shows your utter lack of knowledge. Lastly, I do agree that the soloists had intonation issues, however, this director is one of the best in the country.
I think with a little sense of listening and vocalization and tone training,, this choir would be alright... no to soloist first.. it's terrible flat... they had this piece like 1/2 step lower...
This is byfar one of the WORST university choirs I have ever heard (if not the worst). Wow. There is no sense of phrasing nor blend whatsoever. I have heard mediocre HS choirs that are more musical. There are some large, possibly exceptional voices in this group but no idea of ensemble or sensitivity.
I don't think so. They're the "University Choir" of West Virginia University. Cutting out "university" from either of those would make the names incorrect.
ok Sachseguy07....if u actually knew what you were talkin about u would have known that this is a SATB arrangement. that means that there is soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. so dont act like you know what your talking about. But yeah this group def butchered this song. i think i went tone deaf after listening to this
Oh Believe me, they're always that bad. In fact, its practically unbearable to hear them, much less try to sing with them if you have any sense of pitch at all.
The soprano is just killing everyone else. This is not a balanced choir. Balanced does not mean even number of people on a part, but control of the quality and limitations of each section and to bring them together into one coherient group. They sound akward, but they do have potential.
You've got to be kidding me. The choral director should not have a job in a university for allowing this OBNOXIOUS vibrato trash. I can only hope that these singers are not going to pursue occupations in music education, because anyone who knows anything about this piece knows that vibrato is NOT appropriate. It sounds like a ScreamFest.
The soloists are perfectly dreadful. Did any of them audition? No purity in the sound at all and out of tune. I have heard HS groups better. TERRIBLE.
three is no hope if even the soloists (assuming they auditioned for it) go way flat. :(
maybe it's style, but i think the vibrato abuse doesn't help the blend much. i think that's one thing biebl considered in writing this in as a men's arrangement.

The person who put up the video never claimed it was amazing & you should not be so rude and negative. It's disgusting.

Redundant?

I agree. I've heard several performances where vibrato is used and it hurts the performance.

Nothing beats Chanticleer's version

maybe the King's Singers would...

This song sounds much better in a TTBB choir.
bobert0516 4 years ago
How can it? It was written SAATTBB. Singing it in TTBB would make it watered down.
24Lancelot 4 years ago 2
Dude?!?! Have you actually heard the chanticleer recording of this piece? Listen to it if you havent because its anything but "Watered Down"
Tutudanca88 3 years ago
Read bobert0516's comment first, dude.
Chanticleer didn't sing it TTBB.
Any, yes...I've listened to their version.
