@native22496 Also, since this is talking about the old testament to witch we do not follow it is mute.... for it was a sin to not be married and have sex. so if one is married... a man and a man, woman woman there is no sin. why Christians turn the word of God to make them be able to hate/ feel better or not try and understand the unknown will be some i don't understand to me.
@seandean3rd Since when do Christians not follow the Old Testament?? Suggesting we don't exposes your biblical ignorance. The first declaration of the Gospel is in Genesis. Jesus seemed to have a pretty high view of the Old Testament. Acts 15 and other passages make it clear we are not bound to the ceremonial laws of the OT, but we still use the OT. And the order of creation, which homosexuality is a violation of, is not only in the ceremonial laws, but all over scripture.
@MackLeeGreen .... okay... well lets suggest we do follow the old testament... can't have sex other then missionary.... can't eat shell fish... can't do anything on sunday... shall i go on? READ THE BIBLE!
@native22496 including castrating themselves, carrying on drunken sexual orgies, and even having sex with young temple prostitutes (male and female) -- all to honor the gods of sex and pleasure.."
romans 2:1 states "Wherefore thou art without excuse, oh man, whosoever thou art that judges: for wherein thou judges another, thou condiments thyself; for thou that judgest dost practices the same thing
@native22496 lol, WOW!.... see people like you whom don't read the whole chapter make me ill. Paul is writing this letter to Rome after his missionary tour of the Mediterranean. On his journey Paul had seen great temples built to honor Aphrodite, Diana, and other fertility gods and goddesses of sex and passion instead of the one true God the apostle honors. Apparently, these priests and priestesses engaged in some odd sexual behaviors --
I've lost a lot of respect for Derek Webb over the last few years- I think I'm more bothered by the fact that Jennifer Knapp has spiritual people who claim to be pastors telling her she can live a homosexual lifestyle- than the fact that she came out. The church is sooo watered down now its sad- they're so afraid of offending people they are to cowardly to confront sin- believe it or not, Jesus had NO problem offending people- Yes, God loves Jennifer- but yes being gay is a sin
Look you punkasses, as far as I know, Derek Webb and his wife Sandra McCracken are solidly Reformed Christians. And yes, Jennifer Knapp came out of the closet. Do I think homosexuality is okay? No, but don't freaking cruficify her for it. Let Jennifer Knapp and the Lord work whatever they gotta work out between them.
In the mean time, get your asses away from the computer screen and go love the world as Christ loved us first.
Support good music and purchase Derek Webb's albums!
I think it's totally natural in the human sense that some people are born gay. I also know that I'm inclined to lust, and others are prone to their errors. Just 'cause we naturally want something, doesn't mean it's the right thing. Just 'cause Knapp is proud of her sin, will I protest "her"? No.
There are all kind of Christians as stated. The Bible is clear about homosexuality just as it is about obesity, lying, pride, and all sort of self-centeredness (compared to God-centeredness). She states her reason for coming out as "being true to herself" where the sacred text (as she calls the Bible) calls us to be true to the only true and living God. None of us can be true to God and live contrary to his word in any area. Again, the sacred text says that God and our sin cannot coexist.
I am curious as to where Derek Webb stands...I am personally a little tired of people who try to play the liberal enlightened fundamentalist card, because to do so for more than two seconds requires one to say something truly bold, which neither Webb nor Knapp nor Donald Miller or anyone else really seems inclined to do. If you think that you can happily and positively be a gay believer, then you have a responsibility to other gay believers who struggle to live through it positively.
Buy not! I care enough about Ms. Knapp that she will not profit from me, when releasing a message such as this. When people do something wrong, as we all do, we are ashamed. We do not wear our sin with pride. She may change, but she will not change if she gets her record sales, which she wants. This is not being a judge. She can change. But she is sending the wrong message to people.
If I am a high profile Christian and I come out and admit that I am an repentant sinner, of any kind, including gluttony and gossip (seemingly "small" sins). Then I think that I would gather a lot of attention. . To defy the word of God and justify personal sin, is a huge spiritual error. To be guilty of sin, and looking to Yeshua/Jesus for forgiveness and restoration is a position of humility and holiness. To be sinful and rebellious, is "pride" and thus the sin of Lucifer's fall. I love her.
God clearly doesn't hate poeple, He hates the sin that pulls us away like cattle to the slaughter house. Jesus the Christ came to save gay people just as He did for me. In return, He asks for their obedience just as He does for me. No one is doomed util we die. Then we will all stand before the God that you can't ignore & explain to Him that we either love His son Jesus or we disagreed with His view points. The rest is up to Him to decide. I find it easier to follow God
But if you're going to slice up the written word as a way of making God OK with sin, you're putting relativity where there are absolutes. God's view doesn't change with society but is the same for us as it was for civilizations at the begining of time. rather than to ignore Him.
Rawk4Life, Wow have you been taking a shilacking on this! I spoke earlier of my view on this topic but was confined to what I could say due to space. To the outspoken oppossers of you: Clearly "God" spoke in the Bible about homosexuality. God clearly defines homosexuality as a sin along with several other sins. If you don't believe in God then that's a whole other rabbit trail to go towards.
You over zealous spiritual nutbags on this page. Get off your high horses thinking you know what god thinks. You all take everything on faith which isn't the same as fact. Derek is probably gay too. He just can't admit it. Who cares. Who fucking cares? God loves you and has a purpose for you, right? Wrong. Look at all the infant, children and senseless deaths everyday on this planet. It's all void of meaning so deal with it. Gay or straight is insignificant.
@stevebuck77 Derek is married and has two kids. His wife is also a singer/songwriter and they even tour together. Just because there is infants and children dying in the world doesn't mean the world is devoid of meaning. It's that the world is crooked and evil and not as it should be.
I hate this whole stupid argument. I know what I believe to be right and wrong, and I think the bible is pretty clear on that, and I am kind of disappointed in Derek for taking this particular stance that he seems to have taken. But he's been right about so much. It just really bothers me that just because this man who has really changed my life happens to in my opinion be wrong on one issue doesn't mean he's a bad guy or wrong about everything else.
Our issue is with God. Jennifer and Derek's issues are with God. They can say this isn't wrong. They are not disagreeing with a book or a man behind a pulpit. They are disagreeing with the uncreated creator of all. They believe that they know better then God and have things figured out far better then Him. They can sing their songs and travel all they want, but they only have 40+ years left. Then the God decides the rest.
So at the end of the day, Jennifer Knapp can do whatever she wishes. She call herself a women of faith, whatever. But she will stand before the King of Kings, the creator of the earth and be judged. And so will all of us.
C.S Lewis says, "The greatest monument to human freedom is Hell." The people God sends to Hell are not in regret or sad. They HATE God. They do not want to be near Him. So they are sent with all their bitterness, blame, complaints and tortured with it. And demons also help out with the torture for eternity. That's forever.
Peoples' issues or offenses with homosexuality being deemed wrong should not blame the church or pastors. Their finger should be pointed at God. Specifically, the issues Jennifer Knapp has are with God. People can tell her all day that she is fine and great or can tell her she is going to burn in hell. It makes no difference when she stands before God. She will stand alone before Him and He alone will judge her.
I would challenge every person who watches this video to open up a bible and read Romans 1:24-27 before you make a statement or opinion about Jennifer Knapp. It might open all of our eyes a bit to the truth of God's word. This is not to condemn her at all, but truth is truth. She said she believes the Bible is holy and sacred. Read what it says! God bless.
@jpmlkm I'm rather disinclined to form any opinion whatsoever about someone I neither know nor have ever met, but if you're forewarning people to consult the Bible in direct reference to this one person, I'm going to take that as a sign that the opinion you've formed about her isn't all that favorable, despite what you might say.
Very excited to see you both on tour! And thank you for being open about your faith and your personal life, and for giving thousands out there there courage to begin to do the same. God is a God of love. It's us who call ourselves Christians that give Christianity a bad name, sometimes.
Stevebuck77 YOU NEED A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD!!! GOD NEEDS TO GET AHOLD OF YOU AND ROCK YOUR WORLD!You need to give Him the chance to be something REAL in your empty life!HE LOVES YOU STEVEBUCK77! He sent His Son JESUS CHRIST for YOU!Even You, Stevebuck77, was on His mind when Jesus died for your's and my sins!Prayers will definitely be going up for you!!!! Keep that in mind!!!
@djdwv My empty life? My life is far from empty pal. God sent himself in the flesh to die, as to appease himself, and then rise up and be worshipped so his ego might be stroked and people may avoid flames in which he made for them to burn in forever. Foreknowledge and freewill don't coincide friend. The story is ridiculous. Keep your prayers.
God doesn't care about Jennifer's sexuality cause god doesn't exist! If he does, he isn't the god of the bible. He seems to be a multiple personality monster and in a fact a contradiction which can't exist. So, quote your little verses now which were written by man and mean nothing. Yay!
I don't think it's bad that Jennifer is touring with Derek Webb. However, I would find it odd if she performs any of her older Christian songs since she seems unashamed of her lesbian lifestyle, of which God does not approve of.
That would not be odd at all. She is a believer; that much has not changed. She was gay before, she just didn't accept it or publicly announce it. The only thing that has changed is that people who are 'Christians' are judging her. Her relationship with Jesus is all that counts. Kudos to Jennifer and Derek
"Her relationship with Jesus is all that counts."
That's a huge cop out to escape the fact that same sex relationships are frowned upon by God Himself. You can call it judging, but the Lord sees her sexuality preference as immoral.
@Rawk4Life So you've met God and seen him frown? You've heard him judging? Aah, I love how everyone says this, but all they have is their bible to go by. It really gets old and it's so illogical to say you KNOW what God thinks. No, you believe in some ancient writer/former murder you've never met.
Who are you, someone rtanner called for backup because he didn't know how to respond to my last comment? I love how people like you take something I say and twist it into something completely the opposite. God says Christians are to judge righteously, He never said they could not judge someone's character or actions based on their lifestyle choices.
@Rawk4Life I did respond to you post. Very well, I might add. I didn't twist anything. Looking at your posts, you seem to be talking for God. I doubt he likes that. God didn't say anything of the sort to judge Christians. One man did. Paul, who is a former murderer, and you just blindly believe him for some reason. You're welcome to judge. Just whatever you judge, you are judged by the same thing (Romans 2:1) And it's not your place to judge Jennifer. It's her community, not strangers.
Matthew 7:18-20 - A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
About judging, God didn't specify whom we are to judge. Jesus did say in John 7:24 "Do not judge by mere appearance, but make a righteous judgment." By the way, you are misled if you think someone can be a true Christian and dabble in sin willingly at the same time.
@Rawk4Life About fruit. I can tell you that Jennifer has already produced amazing fruit. She has helped thousands of people feel better and make them feel like a part of a community. You seem to be dabbling in judgment and you still call yourself a Christian. It's your opinion that God approves your judging.
Nice way to turn my words against me. She produced amazing fruit until she openly proclaimed that she was in a lesbian relationship. You are blind and close minded if you think God accepts people into His kingdom that are involved in same sex relationships. Either that or you don't know what the Word of God has to say about those who are gay.
@Rawk4Life Seriously? You'd find it odd that she wouldn't sing her old songs? Like they aren't relevant or something. They are great songs and if you disagree with her, then don't listen to them. God doesn't approve of your higher-than-thou Pharisee attitude, so I hope you stop speaking for him.
THE GREAT COMPROMISE - This is sooo "all about me" . . . my music - me the artist - me getting seen again . . . jump-starting fading careers.
What a great example of Pergamos styled compromise (Rev. 2:12-17. The thing that is the most heart-bfeaking is how snide and cutsie they are about it all.
1Co 5:11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler--not even to eat with such a one.
@DalisYT I recommend reading all of Romans before you quote it. (I'm assuming you have not, as the way you have proof-texted that verse butchers all of what Paul is saying in Romans 1 and 2) I don't have time or space to explain why, but it is intellectually dishonest to randomly grab stuff out of a text like that and use it for proof when he is saying something quite different.
@mwYfan You're really going to talk to me about proof-texting? Romans 1:26-27 is the single most often-used clobber passage to shout at gay people - typically without a shred of evidence of what dwells in the heart of the target. Where is the same outrage at all the heterosexual hedonism and attack on marriage in the form of domestic violence, divorce, and contraception. It's not there. I think the shoe fits: knowing the law isn't the same as virtue. All lack the authority to condemn her.
@sprinkles1231 Romans 2:1 "Therefore, you are without excuse, every one of you who passes judgment. For by the standard by which you judge another, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the very same things."
@DalisYT the judgement the bible refers to is a condemnation judgement not the reality between a thron bush and a apple tree. if you've read Romans you'll see the scripture tells us to make a distinction between what is of God and is not. Jennifer is a liar and the truth is not in her.
@fjv79641 Let's not be presumptuous. I have no evidence one way or the other or her sanctity, and neither do you. She only just said that she has a same-sex orientation and a partner of 7 years. We don't even know if they're sexually active. She still identifies as a Christian and is under pastoral care. Why don't you let that work?
@sprinkles1231 Where exactly in the bible does it say that Christians are responsible for judging other Christians? Because I remember a bit about mustard seeds and boulders, and judge not lest ye be judged, but not that horseshit you made up.
@coldcyber hehe. I've never bought anything she put out. But I will now. She seems way cool. And of course, Derek is a total hottie and laid back dude. Love him.
You should watch Jennifer on Larry King. She's a very strong lady and knows herself and the scripture. It's not our job to judge her or anyone else, but oh how we love to! It makes it easier to pretend that we're all okay and not sinning each and every day. LOL! You're all a bunch of hypocrites.
Don't attend an evening with these two, and don't go picket their concert. That will just add to their frustration and fuel their fire. They are both great at drumming up publicity to gain fame and a few bucks. Just pray for them, live by the truth of God's word and go serve somebody. The way to defeat their really messed up theology and religious views is to ignore them. I saw both of them before they started all this nonsense and got nothing out of it. Looking back, now I now why.
I am here with my gay lover, norqvader, to spread the word of Christ, & ask everyone, including straight Xtians, to truly become one with God by becoming a Gay Christian. It is our duty to convert u. Xtian Gays are the strongest Xtians, & will one day take over the ministry of Jesus. Being gay is a spiritual blessing. It puts one closer to God. Like Christ our savior, we experience persecution & discrimination, & it only makes us stronger. God is on our side, & anyone who is not shall go to hell
Of course he knew she was gay. Although homosexuality is offensive to God, I'm not God! I don't believe Derek is going to become homosexual by performing with Jennifer Knapp nor does this mean he approves of the lifestyle. I think it means he approves of her.
@appraiser1979 You only assume it's offensive to god because of a couple of ancient writers that you've never met. Christians crack me up with their logic.
Derek doesn't care if someone is gay. He gets it - it doesn't matter. I'm sure he's glad Jen found a soulmate. Who wouldn't other than people who are close minded and unreasonable.
it realy dosen't matter what people think it's what God says God says repent and believe the gospel or you will die in your sins and be in Hell for eternatity Gods grace will change you if you truely believe faith with out works is dead what you believe you act on GODBLESS jENIFER please REPENT AND SIN NO MORE
it's in his word to believe the greek word means to trust in rely on adhear to and to adhear something means to obey to believe the gospel means to obey the gospel it's either Jesus is your Lord or the Devil whoever you yield your selvs to obey that is who your master is if live and love a life of sin then Satan is your master plainly says this in the Bible.
@MURDERORMARIJUANA u mean god the Baby Killer? Their roots are dried up; they will bear no more fruit. And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children." (Hosea 9:16) or Murder, Rape, and Pillage at Jabesh-gilead? Judges 21:10-24 NLT
@serpentguitarman u know just because a book says it's God's Word does that make it a fact, just like everything in life you need independent verification of the evidence, you have no independent verification what you have is blind faith, I could say that I've seen Bigfoot, but until I come up with some EVIDENCE, there is no proof, just my word, besides why would god use a bunch of asswhole xians who don't even follow the Bible to spread his word?
1) The Bible's Oneness - The Bible contains sixty-six books written by over forty different writers from differing backgrounds over a span of two thousand years. Yet from Genesis to Revelation the Bible proclaims one truth, one plan of salvation, one code of ethics. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God who inspired and guided each human writer to write His Word.
@zefanyae at least I got somebody who can intelligently present their ideas, but unfortunately you're not giving me any real evidence, I've heard every one of your points over and over for the last 20 years and all's they are is the same theological dissertation, constantly repeating information over and over does not make it evidence does not make it true, if you read misquoting Jesus and watch the zeitgeist movie I'll suffer you a little longer because frankly I'm bored hearing the same info
@killallpedosnow So sorry to bore you with the TRUTH! But I have no intention to entertain you anyways lol. But 20 years and still haven't seen the EVIDENCE? Then it's not any human job to reveal any of this to you. But perhaps all those who tried are praying to God for you :)
@zefanyae it's not TRUTH it's your belief, are you smart enough to know the difference? just because u believe something does not make it true, it makes u a fascist, someone who is trying to force there believe system on someone else and after 20 years of studying I have seen contradictory evidence and circumstantial evidence but nothing to support your particular theological views, everybody including you interprets everything differently, you interpret the Bible one way, another xian his way
@zefanyae and I love how you guys dodge the zeitgeist movie, misquoting Jesus and the epic of Gilgamesh, the guys are so afraid you're going to hear something that's going to shatter your belief system you just refuse to watch it, if you're so confident in your beliefs and so sure that you have the truth you should have no problem hearing/reading/watching opposing viewpoints
2) The Bible's Indestructibility - Kings have directed campaigns to root the Bible out of their kingdoms. Emperors have declared all-out wars to destroy the Bible. Yet ever since the days of the printing press, the Bible remains the most read book throughout the world. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God who is almighty to preserve His Word throughout the ages.
3) The Bible's Universality - The Bible speaks to people from all types of cultures, continents, centuries, backgrounds, languages, ages, occupations, etc. It not only relates, but it also speaks powerfully to stop sinners, renew hearts and lead people to God. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God who delights to apply His Word, by His Holy Spirit, to the minds and hearts of people.
4) The Bible's Inexhaustibility - Hundreds of Bible commentaries have been written; countless sermons have been preached, and yet, new insights are continually drawn from the Bible's limitless depths. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God of infinite wisdom and truth.
5) The Bible's Honesty - Biographical accounts of the heroes of faith in Scripture differ from human-authored biographies. Biographies written by people tend to enlarge their heroes' strengths, minimize their weaknesses and ignore their errors. The Bible, however, honestly relates David's, Noah's, and Peter's sinful failures as well as their triumphs of faith. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God of perfect honesty and integrity.
@zefanyae proove it, u haven't proved anything, just stated your theological belief system like the thousands of other christian cults. not impressed with the large paragraphs and your incessant blah blah blahing. watch the zeitgeist movie or are u too afraid? im not afraid to hear your beliefs, just want to hear from god himself because frankly i don't trust u fascists, u all keep insisting i should believe the bible because u say so. you're lives have shown u don't even obey it so y should i?
@killallpedosnow Ephesians 4:18 (ESV)They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart.
@zefanyae think about it from my perspective, I've been studying the Bible longer than you've been alive, so why do you think you can instruct me in the Bible? and I didn't study the pathetically inaccurate and corrupted English versions, I studied the Hebrew/Greek.if you go to any honest Bible College and I've listened to some of the instructors, even the so-called original Greek manuscripts have multiple scribal errors and the Bible translators of the Greek arguing amongst themselves.
@zefanyae Noah is a good example, that story was taken from the epic of Gilgamesh which predates the Bible, here's an actual historical fact: The earliest Sumerian version of the epic of Gilgamesh dates to about 2150-2000 BCE; the Bible doesn't come around until 1450 - 1410 B.C
@serpentguitarman I know you have turned off your logic and reasoning but just follow me for a second, if you had a wife would you verbally communicate to her or write it down in a book? Or would you guys just sit there and write books to each other? if God has something to tell the world then he should just tell us himself instead of supposedly inspiring numerous different authors over the course of about 6000 or years who wrote it down and claimed to be God's Word
@serpentguitarman & u fascists dont even agree on the Bible anyway, there are thousands of Christian cults and probably about a billion Christians who interpret the Bible each in their own way and they all think they're right, just like you,t but there are other sects of Xtianity which would call you a heretic, how many times have you read the Bible? If not at least 50 times like I have in the Hebrew and Greek then I don't want to debate with someone who has less knowledge of the Bible than me.
@norqvader I know the Bible well. And it's not that big. A pedophile involves a victim. Consenting adults don't. There is no love involved in your examples. But there is with adult relationships who are committed to each other. None of the examples produce things I'd call joy and contentment. I'm all for obeying God, but it doesn't come from a book which is flawed. Some good things in the Bible and some terrible. Stop worrying about some else's personal life. That is just plain nosy.
@norqvader There is no reason to repent from something that gives you joy and contentment. That makes no sense and would be harmful. I guess you think her 'practicing' heterosexuality would make her happier. That is funny. And delusional.
Hopefully Ms. Knapp can figure out that she can still be spiritual without feeling she has to be part of the hateful, vile religion of Christianity. She seems smart so hopefully she will develop the wherewithall to preach against it.
Listen you people, why the heck are you here talking about this other stuff - this is about "Jennifer Knapp Music." Go somewhere else to discuss your views on homosexuality. You can troll anywhere in the world and you have to come here to do it? Ugh...exasperation!!!! Get. Over. It.
@Namdog2252 uh hello? J-knapp was a contempo-christian artist for years and has only very recently, eh "come out" Dude stop blocking and let people discuss. Besides, if you knew anything about her, or her music, you would realize that all her songs are overtly christian -which is anathema to the homosexual lifestyle
@maimaiem That is your opinion. There is no ONE Christian view. There are several, which is an understatement.
And is that like the heterosexual lifestyle? There are only two lifestyles. A healthy one and an unhealthy one. It's up to the individual which one works for you.
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
@libtechsk8er Why would you listen to someone who is a self admitted murderer - and never had to do any jail time. He was just sorry and guess he was forgiven by Jesus? People will believe anyone. But really. What exactly is the Kingdom of God anyway? It means a variety of things in the Bible. If it means heaven as people seem to think, god won't let someone with an alcohol problem in? or someone who covets a nice house? Really? All these things harm, except homosexual. Stupid.
I'm sure all of your arguments and words here on this youtube video will win over many lost souls... did you hear my sarcasm? Will arguing over the internet do anything? Do you really think you will reach people's hearts and they will trust you? Do you really think you are advancing the Kindgom for Christ?
Do you remember that Jesus fed and clothed people FIRST and then said "Go now your sins are forgiven." The point is that Jesus loved people first and had relationships first... he was bold too and spoke truth, but I have a hard time believing that if Christ had a youtube account that he would be replying to this video as some of his followers have. Read John 8:1-11 If I go up to a complete stranger and tell them they are condemned... then how could I possibly expect them to listen to me?
The comments on this youtube video are exactly what the world believes Christians are... elitists, legalists, and condemning of others who do not believe like them. I'm not saying that everything is permissible... but is this really the best and most "Christ-like" way to have these conversations? Christ didn't do what all the religious leaders expected... he shocked everyone by his reactions to people. He loved, he lived among all people, and he boldly proclaimed truth.
It's hilarious to see all these Christian Taliban who think homosexuality is a "sin." I've got news for you, SO IS EATING SHRIMP! Read your Bible and then judge yourself.
it's not so much cuz she is homosexual. it is cuz she's a Christian. know what i mean? she has a tremendous power in the Christian church like you would not believe...but with great power comes great accountability...i fear for the new movement that is going to come from this. whatever she does, she will give an account for her sin....BUT the Christians influenced by her...THAT IS DISHEARTENING as a major fan...
i pray Jen takes a look at the movement closer, God's perspective...lord. :-(.
@ReformedTheology5 Sounds like you think she's a super hero wielding her wand converting people. Odd. What is this new movement you talk of? That it's a big world, complex, and it's time to start treating people like human beings and celebrating love? Ooh, such a nasty movement I tell ya.
Over the centuries the church has focused (often to the point of war and death) on various issues such as how to practice communion and baptism, lending money at interest (usury), etc. --each side claiming that God was on their side and the devil on the other. However, issues are not black and white. We do not deal with epilepsy and mental illness as outlined in the gospels, nor should we provide simplistic biblical answers to tough questions about sexuality.
@onlyonesuperdude Arsen means male. Not males. Koite means bed, not cohabitation. Obviously not translated homosexual in general ( no lesbian reference) It could easily mean many things. Arsenokoitai was not a common Greek word - only found 76 times in different meanings and contexts. Neither arsenokoitai nor malakoi are translated as "any homosexual behavior" in
ANY other Greek literature, which makes one question why they are translated that way here.
yeah, i looked up and read the sight, too. but i do believe that u r arguing for something that u have no stake in (no dog in the fight). r u a believer/Christian?
the compound word ἀρσενοκοῖται is in the plural masculine form thus males who bed with males. i mean its composition is much like our word homosexual--homo meaning same and sexual meaning lots of different things, but mainly related to sex.
but since since ἀρσενοκοῖται can mean many different things, and since u know so much more than the translators of the Bible who were learned in the biblical languages of greek, hebrew, aramaic, and also latin, what else could it mean? literally translated its men bed men.
i didn't even bring up μαλακοὶ, so im not even going to get into that translation.if u want a word that encompasses many sexual practices we could look at the πορνεία (pornei).
but i would rather not...we shall deal with one word at a time. i also would like to stick with the bible, so u can throw out all the other extra-biblical refs the scholars throw out on that page. let's look at the words that make up the compound word and define those, and the context of the passages in which the words appear.
u do have a point about it not adressing lesbianism, but lets deal with the def issues first.
@onlyonesuperdude I'm not saying I'm an expert in translation. But it is obviously not gay in general, or there would be a female equivalent. In the time of Martin Luther it was translated as masturbation. It can indicate biased translators. Even tho you don't want to look at any extra-biblical works, that to me is really unfair - since it only appears in a list. We need context, so then you look at how it was mostly used in other places. Sexual aggressor / rapist of slave tader is possible
@otter4771 i transliterated the greek and i will leave it at that. i cant find proof that luther translated it as masturbation, but i do know he translated it "Knabenschänder"--i do not know what that means (no german background here), but he also he translated from the latin vulgate, not from the original texts.
we could look extra-biblical, but sometimes these are misleading; case in point--in the vernacular, i got raped/screwed could mean so many different things depending on the context.
we could also look at the word for baptized--the only extra-biblical findings of this word are in regards of pickling--is that what a Christians should do...pickle themselves? it portrays an idea of full submerging, but not of staying under until the pickling process in complete.
do u contend that homosexual (males) is not a possible translation?
@onlyonesuperdude Anything is possible - but a word that's only used twice in the Bible in lists and has no context is highly suspect. It has had many translations over the years. Paul did coin words, but what he meant exactly is hard to say. Look at the word Lady-Killer. Does it mean someone who kills ladies? Or a lady who kills? As we know, that title was actually given to men who were good looking and women found them hard to resist.
@otter4771 -uhh...nice try, but that was the most ridiculous statement about Saul of Tarsus. You can act like a bible scholar all you want to( this is only youtube afterall) but you are not fooling anyone who knows anything about the scripture.
@maimaiem Instead of petty judgements, how about contributing something useful. Saul aggressively persecuted Christians and was responsible for many of their deaths. If this is true, he should have been locked up for life. I don't care what kind of religious epiphany he had or how many people follow his writings (more than Jesus). He still should have not been able to write ANY letters. Talk about an ego. He had the God complex. Funny, if it wasn't so sad. As a writer, tho, not bad.
@onlyonesuperdude Sorry, it's not translated men bed men. It's 'male bed'. The gender (masculine) of the noun has nothing to do with the sex of the people interacting with it. If you put a masculine ending onto a feminine noun, you wouldn't have a word that relates to men, you would just have bad grammar. It could mean women who bed men. No one knows since it wasn't common and is in a list.
Anymore. I'll give you that is is in plural, but it doesn't necessarily mean men with men. It could mean a male prostitute with many women. The problem is no context - it's in a list. If Paul wanted to convey homosexual in general, he would have used the word paiderasste, the standard Greek term at the time for sexual behavior between males. Much Greek gay literature has survived and none mention arsenokoitai, indicating something other than gay
@otter4771 just because it was common in other literature for a certain word to be used, doesn't mean that the NT would use that meaning...it makes more sense to me to spell it out directly (aka men bed men) then men who laid with boys. talking about 2 different types of sexual relations here--the common greek practice of older men having sexual relations with younger boys and male on male (at any age) sexual relations.
@onlyonesuperdude Actually Biblical translators look to other manuscripts all the time. That is how people learn the language. Not by just reading the Bible. Take malakoi - that is common in Greek literature, mostly meaning soft. We've learned what the word means from the collection of everything found. Like I said, arsenokoitai seemed to be as a homosexual slave trader in other contexts. It involved abusive and perverted relationships, which is in line with Paul's list. Not gay in general.
well now u have for sure sinned (even if u do not see homosexuality as a sin). u have lusted after someone00a married man at that. u have also coveted something that is not your's--a woman's husband. u have already commited adultry with derek and stand in condemnation if you do not seek the blood of Jesus Christ.
Jen, can u see the fruit of what is occuring with ur lifestyle? u r causing others to stumble furthur into sin. please seek Christ.
Today's news broke my heart. God loves you Jennifer but you are separating yourself from Him by living in sin. God cannot look at sin. He gave us Jesus to cover our sin but Jesus said - repent. He said to the sinful women at the well if you drink from my water, you will never thirst again. Jennifer, you cannot be drinking from His well and if you are not repenting & you're living in this.
She will be held accountable for souls shes leading astray by giving approbation to sin. I know first hand that it seems impossible to defeat the lusts of the flesh. Only God can win the battle. He will fight it for us if we cry out to Him. I was healed and I could never have done it on my own. Jennifer should check out settingcaptivesfree com. That is what I did.
Jennifer knapp! I loved your music from the beginning and I will always support ur music. You have the most powerful lyrics and music I've ever heard. No matter who you are I know your heart loves God and is faithful to him. I will always be your fan no matter what!
@Bfolks84 If we are falling to sin, we do not have proper love for God. Paul's prayer for the Thessalonians reinforces this: "May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance" (2 Thessalonians 3:5).
@Bfolks84 any human attempt to bring freedom to those trapped in sin is doomed to fail because it lacks this motive. There is no true freedom in the heart that does not love God. But once this love for God is planted in the heart, it enables us to go through any trial and any temptation without falling.
@ohioscififan The word "hate" is used quite speciously today. The Angel of light has this world convinced that the GOSPEL itself is "hate" and by the crafty usage in the commentors contribution, I suspect that the contributor deems the gospel as "hate speech" as well. Pardon me if I am mistaken.
@DrArbitrage I am not sure if you meant me as "the contributor", but allow me to clarify my message. I do not believe the gospel is hate. The gospel is the liberating truth that all can be saved through the blood of Jesus Christ, and it is by his grace, and his grace alone that one is saved. The gospel itself is a beautiful, wonderful thing, however, man distorts it into something its not, and promotes hate under the guse of the gospel.
@ohioscififan You can not tell me that "God hates fags" is truely the will of God, or condemning two people in a loving committed relationship. That is NOT the God of the Bible, but man distorting God and his Gospel. I thank God everyday for the TRUE gospel, that I can be saved through the blood of Jesus. I am NOT saved by ANYONES interpretation of the gospel (sound familiar? Pharisees anyone?) I am saved by Jesus.
@ohioscififan --- Don't deceive yourself! It's one-sided understanding of the Bible. And in reality people use the "JESUS SAVES" and "by the grace only" sayings just to justify their SINs. Poor souls....
@viktorst Maybe some people do so, but I do not. Every day I repent of my sins such as pride, anger, envy... Jesus does save me, and I love him for that. BECAUSE I love him, I try to live the best i can, trying to please him. I do not justify my sins at all. I live to please Jesus, not man.
@ReformedTheology5 Really? Really? I am fairly sure the world is not going to end because this woman has admitted to being a lesbian. Posts like this are just ridiculous. Homosexuality has ALWAYS been a part of human sexuality and it is rampant in the animal world..it will always and forever exist. Period. Deal with it. Accept it. And why do you people always quote the bible. I mean is that all you got? How can you pick and choose like that. There are tons of sins but this is the one everybody
goes nuts about? How about not mixing seeds? Farmers do it all the time..they going to hell too? Oh and the government since they subsidize the farmers..they are so going to hell for that. Oh hey..lets all sell our daughters but only if we get a good price. What other things can be found in Leviticus? Anyone?
Hmm, no mention of Jesus Christ..the one they are SUPPOSEDLY making music to glorify. Very telling!

@native22496 Also, since this is talking about the old testament to witch we do not follow it is mute.... for it was a sin to not be married and have sex. so if one is married... a man and a man, woman woman there is no sin. why Christians turn the word of God to make them be able to hate/ feel better or not try and understand the unknown will be some i don't understand to me.
seandean3rd 1 year ago
@seandean3rd Since when do Christians not follow the Old Testament?? Suggesting we don't exposes your biblical ignorance. The first declaration of the Gospel is in Genesis. Jesus seemed to have a pretty high view of the Old Testament. Acts 15 and other passages make it clear we are not bound to the ceremonial laws of the OT, but we still use the OT. And the order of creation, which homosexuality is a violation of, is not only in the ceremonial laws, but all over scripture.

If you think that you can happily and positively be a gay believer, then you have a responsibility to other gay believers who struggle to live through it positively.
goodlookinrebel5 1 year ago
MorningSun10000 1 year ago

God's view doesn't change with society but is the same for us as it was for civilizations at the begining of time. rather than to ignore Him.
appraiser1979 1 year ago
Rawk4Life, Wow have you been taking a shilacking on this! I spoke earlier of my view on this topic but was confined to what I could say due to space. To the outspoken oppossers of you: Clearly "God" spoke in the Bible about homosexuality. God clearly defines homosexuality as a sin along with several other sins. If you don't believe in God then that's a whole other rabbit trail to go towards.
appraiser1979 1 year ago
You over zealous spiritual nutbags on this page. Get off your high horses thinking you know what god thinks. You all take everything on faith which isn't the same as fact. Derek is probably gay too. He just can't admit it. Who cares. Who fucking cares? God loves you and has a purpose for you, right? Wrong. Look at all the infant, children and senseless deaths everyday on this planet. It's all void of meaning so deal with it. Gay or straight is insignificant.
stevebuck77 1 year ago
@stevebuck77 Derek is married and has two kids. His wife is also a singer/songwriter and they even tour together. Just because there is infants and children dying in the world doesn't mean the world is devoid of meaning. It's that the world is crooked and evil and not as it should be.
taylornutt 1 year ago
I hate this whole stupid argument. I know what I believe to be right and wrong, and I think the bible is pretty clear on that, and I am kind of disappointed in Derek for taking this particular stance that he seems to have taken. But he's been right about so much. It just really bothers me that just because this man who has really changed my life happens to in my opinion be wrong on one issue doesn't mean he's a bad guy or wrong about everything else.
taylorben18 1 year ago
Our issue is with God. Jennifer and Derek's issues are with God. They can say this isn't wrong. They are not disagreeing with a book or a man behind a pulpit. They are disagreeing with the uncreated creator of all. They believe that they know better then God and have things figured out far better then Him. They can sing their songs and travel all they want, but they only have 40+ years left. Then the God decides the rest.
SuperPage07 1 year ago
So at the end of the day, Jennifer Knapp can do whatever she wishes. She call herself a women of faith, whatever. But she will stand before the King of Kings, the creator of the earth and be judged. And so will all of us.
SuperPage07 1 year ago 2
C.S Lewis says, "The greatest monument to human freedom is Hell." The people God sends to Hell are not in regret or sad. They HATE God. They do not want to be near Him. So they are sent with all their bitterness, blame, complaints and tortured with it. And demons also help out with the torture for eternity. That's forever.
SuperPage07 1 year ago
Peoples' issues or offenses with homosexuality being deemed wrong should not blame the church or pastors. Their finger should be pointed at God. Specifically, the issues Jennifer Knapp has are with God. People can tell her all day that she is fine and great or can tell her she is going to burn in hell. It makes no difference when she stands before God. She will stand alone before Him and He alone will judge her.
SuperPage07 1 year ago
I would challenge every person who watches this video to open up a bible and read Romans 1:24-27 before you make a statement or opinion about Jennifer Knapp. It might open all of our eyes a bit to the truth of God's word. This is not to condemn her at all, but truth is truth. She said she believes the Bible is holy and sacred. Read what it says! God bless.
jpmlkm 1 year ago
@jpmlkm I'm rather disinclined to form any opinion whatsoever about someone I neither know nor have ever met, but if you're forewarning people to consult the Bible in direct reference to this one person, I'm going to take that as a sign that the opinion you've formed about her isn't all that favorable, despite what you might say.

God doesn't care about Jennifer's sexuality cause god doesn't exist! If he does, he isn't the god of the bible. He seems to be a multiple personality monster and in a fact a contradiction which can't exist. So, quote your little verses now which were written by man and mean nothing. Yay!
stevebuck77 1 year ago
I don't think it's bad that Jennifer is touring with Derek Webb. However, I would find it odd if she performs any of her older Christian songs since she seems unashamed of her lesbian lifestyle, of which God does not approve of.
Rawk4Life 1 year ago
That would not be odd at all. She is a believer; that much has not changed. She was gay before, she just didn't accept it or publicly announce it. The only thing that has changed is that people who are 'Christians' are judging her. Her relationship with Jesus is all that counts. Kudos to Jennifer and Derek
rtanner77 1 year ago
"Her relationship with Jesus is all that counts."
That's a huge cop out to escape the fact that same sex relationships are frowned upon by God Himself. You can call it judging, but the Lord sees her sexuality preference as immoral.
Rawk4Life 1 year ago
@Rawk4Life So you've met God and seen him frown? You've heard him judging? Aah, I love how everyone says this, but all they have is their bible to go by. It really gets old and it's so illogical to say you KNOW what God thinks. No, you believe in some ancient writer/former murder you've never met.
otter4771 1 year ago
Who are you, someone rtanner called for backup because he didn't know how to respond to my last comment? I love how people like you take something I say and twist it into something completely the opposite. God says Christians are to judge righteously, He never said they could not judge someone's character or actions based on their lifestyle choices.
Rawk4Life 1 year ago
@Rawk4Life I did respond to you post. Very well, I might add. I didn't twist anything. Looking at your posts, you seem to be talking for God. I doubt he likes that. God didn't say anything of the sort to judge Christians. One man did. Paul, who is a former murderer, and you just blindly believe him for some reason. You're welcome to judge. Just whatever you judge, you are judged by the same thing (Romans 2:1) And it's not your place to judge Jennifer. It's her community, not strangers.
otter4771 1 year ago
Matthew 7:18-20 - A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
About judging, God didn't specify whom we are to judge. Jesus did say in John 7:24 "Do not judge by mere appearance, but make a righteous judgment." By the way, you are misled if you think someone can be a true Christian and dabble in sin willingly at the same time.
Rawk4Life 1 year ago
@Rawk4Life About fruit. I can tell you that Jennifer has already produced amazing fruit. She has helped thousands of people feel better and make them feel like a part of a community. You seem to be dabbling in judgment and you still call yourself a Christian. It's your opinion that God approves your judging.
otter4771 1 year ago
Nice way to turn my words against me. She produced amazing fruit until she openly proclaimed that she was in a lesbian relationship. You are blind and close minded if you think God accepts people into His kingdom that are involved in same sex relationships. Either that or you don't know what the Word of God has to say about those who are gay.

@DalisYT I recommend reading all of Romans before you quote it. (I'm assuming you have not, as the way you have proof-texted that verse butchers all of what Paul is saying in Romans 1 and 2) I don't have time or space to explain why, but it is intellectually dishonest to randomly grab stuff out of a text like that and use it for proof when he is saying something quite different.
mwYfan 1 year ago
@mwYfan You're really going to talk to me about proof-texting? Romans 1:26-27 is the single most often-used clobber passage to shout at gay people - typically without a shred of evidence of what dwells in the heart of the target. Where is the same outrage at all the heterosexual hedonism and attack on marriage in the form of domestic violence, divorce, and contraception. It's not there. I think the shoe fits: knowing the law isn't the same as virtue. All lack the authority to condemn her.

@serpentguitarman and when did u hear God say this things?
MURDERORMARIJUANA 1 year ago
it's in his word to believe the greek word means to trust in rely on adhear to and to adhear something means to obey to believe the gospel means to obey the gospel it's either Jesus is your Lord or the Devil whoever you yield your selvs to obey that is who your master is if live and love a life of sin then Satan is your master plainly says this in the Bible.
serpentguitarman 1 year ago
@serpentguitarman who said the bible is god's word?

@MURDERORMARIJUANA u mean god the Baby Killer? Their roots are dried up; they will bear no more fruit. And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children." (Hosea 9:16) or Murder, Rape, and Pillage at Jabesh-gilead? Judges 21:10-24 NLT
MURDERORMARIJUANA 1 year ago
@serpentguitarman u know just because a book says it's God's Word does that make it a fact, just like everything in life you need independent verification of the evidence, you have no independent verification what you have is blind faith, I could say that I've seen Bigfoot, but until I come up with some EVIDENCE, there is no proof, just my word, besides why would god use a bunch of asswhole xians who don't even follow the Bible to spread his word?
MURDERORMARIJUANA 1 year ago
@MURDERORMARIJUANA Consider the following evidence:
1) The Bible's Oneness - The Bible contains sixty-six books written by over forty different writers from differing backgrounds over a span of two thousand years. Yet from Genesis to Revelation the Bible proclaims one truth, one plan of salvation, one code of ethics. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God who inspired and guided each human writer to write His Word.
zefanyae 1 year ago
@zefanyae at least I got somebody who can intelligently present their ideas, but unfortunately you're not giving me any real evidence, I've heard every one of your points over and over for the last 20 years and all's they are is the same theological dissertation, constantly repeating information over and over does not make it evidence does not make it true, if you read misquoting Jesus and watch the zeitgeist movie I'll suffer you a little longer because frankly I'm bored hearing the same info
killallpedosnow 1 year ago
@killallpedosnow So sorry to bore you with the TRUTH! But I have no intention to entertain you anyways lol. But 20 years and still haven't seen the EVIDENCE? Then it's not any human job to reveal any of this to you. But perhaps all those who tried are praying to God for you :)
zefanyae 1 year ago
@zefanyae it's not TRUTH it's your belief, are you smart enough to know the difference? just because u believe something does not make it true, it makes u a fascist, someone who is trying to force there believe system on someone else and after 20 years of studying I have seen contradictory evidence and circumstantial evidence but nothing to support your particular theological views, everybody including you interprets everything differently, you interpret the Bible one way, another xian his way
killallpedosnow 1 year ago
@zefanyae and I love how you guys dodge the zeitgeist movie, misquoting Jesus and the epic of Gilgamesh, the guys are so afraid you're going to hear something that's going to shatter your belief system you just refuse to watch it, if you're so confident in your beliefs and so sure that you have the truth you should have no problem hearing/reading/watching opposing viewpoints

@MURDERORMARIJUANA --
2) The Bible's Indestructibility - Kings have directed campaigns to root the Bible out of their kingdoms. Emperors have declared all-out wars to destroy the Bible. Yet ever since the days of the printing press, the Bible remains the most read book throughout the world. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God who is almighty to preserve His Word throughout the ages.
zefanyae 1 year ago
@MURDERORMARIJUANA --
3) The Bible's Universality - The Bible speaks to people from all types of cultures, continents, centuries, backgrounds, languages, ages, occupations, etc. It not only relates, but it also speaks powerfully to stop sinners, renew hearts and lead people to God. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God who delights to apply His Word, by His Holy Spirit, to the minds and hearts of people.
zefanyae 1 year ago
@MURDERORMARIJUANA --
4) The Bible's Inexhaustibility - Hundreds of Bible commentaries have been written; countless sermons have been preached, and yet, new insights are continually drawn from the Bible's limitless depths. Why? Because the Bible is the Word of God; a God of infinite wisdom and truth.
zefanyae 1 year ago
@MURDERORMARIJUANA --
5) The Bible's Honesty - Biographical accounts of the heroes of faith in Scripture differ from human-authored biographies.

@zefanyae think about it from my perspective, I've been studying the Bible longer than you've been alive, so why do you think you can instruct me in the Bible? and I didn't study the pathetically inaccurate and corrupted English versions, I studied the Hebrew/Greek.if you go to any honest Bible College and I've listened to some of the instructors, even the so-called original Greek manuscripts have multiple scribal errors and the Bible translators of the Greek arguing amongst themselves.
killallpedosnow 1 year ago

MURDERORMARIJUANA 1 year ago

Do you really think you are advancing the Kindgom for Christ?
jeanwhatnow 1 year ago
Do you remember that Jesus fed and clothed people FIRST and then said "Go now your sins are forgiven." The point is that Jesus loved people first and had relationships first... he was bold too and spoke truth, but I have a hard time believing that if Christ had a youtube account that he would be replying to this video as some of his followers have. Read John 8:1-11 If I go up to a complete stranger and tell them they are condemned... then how could I possibly expect them to listen to me?
jeanwhatnow 1 year ago
The comments on this youtube video are exactly what the world believes Christians are... elitists, legalists, and condemning of others who do not believe like them. I'm not saying that everything is permissible... but is this really the best and most "Christ-like" way to have these conversations? Christ didn't do what all the religious leaders expected... he shocked everyone by his reactions to people. He loved, he lived among all people, and he boldly proclaimed truth.

Does the blood of Jesus wipe away sins, or does it not? That's what you're questioning- whether or not Jesus' death on the cross was enough.
treeners016 1 year ago
Over the centuries the church has focused (often to the point of war and death) on various issues such as how to practice communion and baptism, lending money at interest (usury), etc. --each side claiming that God was on their side and the devil on the other. However, issues are not black and white. We do not deal with epilepsy and mental illness as outlined in the gospels, nor should we provide simplistic biblical answers to tough questions about sexuality.

onlyonesuperdude 1 year ago
@onlyonesuperdude Arsen means male. Not males. Koite means bed, not cohabitation. Obviously not translated homosexual in general ( no lesbian reference) It could easily mean many things. Arsenokoitai was not a common Greek word - only found 76 times in different meanings and contexts. Neither arsenokoitai nor malakoi are translated as "any homosexual behavior" in
ANY other Greek literature, which makes one question why they are translated that way here.
otter4771 1 year ago
@otter4771
yeah, i looked up and read the sight, too. but i do believe that u r arguing for something that u have no stake in (no dog in the fight). r u a believer/Christian?
the compound word ἀρσενοκοῖται is in the plural masculine form thus males who bed with males. i mean its composition is much like our word homosexual--homo meaning same and sexual meaning lots of different things, but mainly related to sex.
onlyonesuperdude 1 year ago
but since since ἀρσενοκοῖται can mean many different things, and since u know so much more than the translators of the Bible who were learned in the biblical languages of greek, hebrew, aramaic, and also latin, what else could it mean? literally translated its men bed men.
i didn't even bring up μαλακοὶ, so im not even going to get into that translation.if u want a word that encompasses many sexual practices we could look at the πορνεία (pornei).
onlyonesuperdude 1 year ago
but i would rather not...we shall deal with one word at a time. i also would like to stick with the bible, so u can throw out all the other extra-biblical refs the scholars throw out on that page. let's look at the words that make up the compound word and define those, and the context of the passages in which the words appear.
u do have a point about it not adressing lesbianism, but lets deal with the def issues first.
onlyonesuperdude 1 year ago
@onlyonesuperdude I'm not saying I'm an expert in translation. But it is obviously not gay in general, or there would be a female equivalent. In the time of Martin Luther it was translated as masturbation. It can indicate biased translators. Even tho you don't want to look at any extra-biblical works, that to me is really unfair - since it only appears in a list. We need context, so then you look at how it was mostly used in other places. Sexual aggressor / rapist of slave tader is possible
otter4771 1 year ago
@otter4771 i transliterated the greek and i will leave it at that. i cant find proof that luther translated it as masturbation, but i do know he translated it "Knabenschänder"--i do not know what that means (no german background here), but he also he translated from the latin vulgate, not from the original texts.
we could look extra-biblical, but sometimes these are misleading; case in point--in the vernacular, i got raped/screwed could mean so many different things depending on the context.
onlyonesuperdude 1 year ago
we could also look at the word for baptized--the only extra-biblical findings of this word are in regards of pickling--is that what a Christians should do...pickle themselves? it portrays an idea of full submerging, but not of staying under until the pickling process in complete.
do u contend that homosexual (males) is not a possible translation?
onlyonesuperdude 1 year ago
@onlyonesuperdude Anything is possible - but a word that's only used twice in the Bible in lists and has no context is highly suspect. It has had many translations over the years. Paul did coin words, but what he meant exactly is hard to say. Look at the word Lady-Killer. Does it mean someone who kills ladies? Or a lady who kills? As we know, that title was actually given to men who were good looking and women found them hard to resist.
otter4771 1 year ago
@otter4771 -uhh...nice try, but that was the most ridiculous statement about Saul of Tarsus. You can act like a bible scholar all you want to( this is only youtube afterall) but you are not fooling anyone who knows anything about the scripture.
maimaiem 1 year ago
@maimaiem Instead of petty judgements, how about contributing something useful. Saul aggressively persecuted Christians and was responsible for many of their deaths. If this is true, he should have been locked up for life. I don't care what kind of religious epiphany he had or how many people follow his writings (more than Jesus). He still should have not been able to write ANY letters. Talk about an ego. He had the God complex. Funny, if it wasn't so sad. As a writer, tho, not bad.
otter4771 1 year ago
@onlyonesuperdude Sorry, it's not translated men bed men. It's 'male bed'. The gender (masculine) of the noun has nothing to do with the sex of the people interacting with it. If you put a masculine ending onto a feminine noun, you wouldn't have a word that relates to men, you would just have bad grammar. It could mean women who bed men. No one knows since it wasn't common and is in a list.
otter4771 1 year ago
@onlyonesuperdude Nope - not a Christian.
Much Greek gay literature has survived and none mention arsenokoitai, indicating something other than gay
otter4771 1 year ago
@otter4771 just because it was common in other literature for a certain word to be used, doesn't mean that the NT would use that meaning...it makes more sense to me to spell it out directly (aka men bed men) then men who laid with boys. talking about 2 different types of sexual relations here--the common greek practice of older men having sexual relations with younger boys and male on male (at any age) sexual relations.
onlyonesuperdude 1 year ago
@onlyonesuperdude Actually Biblical translators look to other manuscripts all the time. That is how people learn the language. Not by just reading the Bible. Take malakoi - that is common in Greek literature, mostly meaning soft. We've learned what the word means from the collection of everything found. Like I said, arsenokoitai seemed to be as a homosexual slave trader in other contexts. It involved abusive and perverted relationships, which is in line with Paul's list. Not gay in general.

@Bfolks84 If we are falling to sin, we do not have proper love for God. Paul's prayer for the Thessalonians reinforces this: "May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance" (2 Thessalonians 3:5).
DrArbitrage 1 year ago
@Bfolks84 any human attempt to bring freedom to those trapped in sin is doomed to fail because it lacks this motive. There is no true freedom in the heart that does not love God. But once this love for God is planted in the heart, it enables us to go through any trial and any temptation without falling.

ohioscififan 1 year ago
@ohioscififan The word "hate" is used quite speciously today. The Angel of light has this world convinced that the GOSPEL itself is "hate" and by the crafty usage in the commentors contribution, I suspect that the contributor deems the gospel as "hate speech" as well. Pardon me if I am mistaken.
DrArbitrage 1 year ago
@DrArbitrage I am not sure if you meant me as "the contributor", but allow me to clarify my message. I do not believe the gospel is hate. The gospel is the liberating truth that all can be saved through the blood of Jesus Christ, and it is by his grace, and his grace alone that one is saved. The gospel itself is a beautiful, wonderful thing, however, man distorts it into something its not, and promotes hate under the guse of the gospel.
ohioscififan 1 year ago
@ohioscififan You can not tell me that "God hates fags" is truely the will of God, or condemning two people in a loving committed relationship. That is NOT the God of the Bible, but man distorting God and his Gospel. I thank God everyday for the TRUE gospel, that I can be saved through the blood of Jesus. I am NOT saved by ANYONES interpretation of the gospel (sound familiar? Pharisees anyone?) I am saved by Jesus.
