  • I was on this show back in '89 or '90. Poppy was out for maternity leave at the time, but Bonkers was awesome! I totally won an Uno Domino set, but I was so jealous of the boy I competed against because he won a 3-ring binder with a calculator! LOL! I loved this show!!!!

  • @Plantagenet80 - Sorry about the 3-ring binder with the calculator! Our producer may soon post more footage of the original Club 27 show on Youtube. Stay tuned!

Glad you had fun on the show!

    - Bonkers

  • Lisalisa, thanks for your comment! Poppy retired from clowning some years back - I'm still out there. I'll be hosting the children's tent stage at Addison Octoberfest Sept 16-19 with Snickerdoodle! He's twenty now, and goes by Le Zerp! He's a finalist for a possible tour with Ringling! He should know in a few weeks! - Bonkers

  • I also remember they had a baby while on the show and there was a contest to name it, I think they chose snickerdoodle lol, Club 27 then care bears was my afterschool ritual for years haha

  • I have been looking for footage of bonkers and poppy for quite a while, this brings back such good memories, my dad still talks about this show, it showed tom and jerry cartoons, man I miss this <3 I wish they would make a comeback

  • I was in my mid-20s back then, but I saw the show with my niece and nephews when I watched after them, and now they have kids of their own. I feel sorry for the present generation of children that don't have the equivalent of a 'Club 27' to come home every weekday afternoon to. Those live kid programs of the past just engendered creativity and imagination, and most of all, the fondest of memories. Thank you very much for posting this little "snippet" of our pasts to enjoy again.

  • @barnstormer4

Thanks, from Paul, Poppy and Bonkers! We had fun doing the show/1

  • I'm probably guessing this in saying that 'Club 27' was probably the last live kid-oriented program that aired in the DFW Metroplex. From the posts I'm reading here, it's as fondly remembered as 'Slam Bang Theater' and 'Mr. Peppermint' was for my generation. I'm REALLY sorry to hear that the original tapes were erased, so hopefully someone out there recorded the show, as it would be great to see Bonkers, Poppy, and the gang again.

  • Sorry to say that KDFI Channel 27 erased all the masters. They were on one inch video tape - state of the art back then - and the tape was expensive. Glad you had a good time on the show!

    Bonkers

  • When I was in boy scouts I remember being on the show a couple of times. I competed once and won a binder with a built in calculator that I still have.

  • I almost remember those binders. We also gave away Nintendo sets - which back then were a big deal! Glad you had a good time!

  • I'm so surprised to find this! If I am recalling correctly, didn't all the kids get to pick a hat to wear while they were in the audience? I remember being so happy when I received my "club card." Also I must say that the guy named Paul was perhaps my first little girl crush.

  • Yes, we had silly hats for the kids to wear as part of the Gallery Gang. Hang on to your Club Card in case 1989 comes back.

Sorry to say that Paul has been happily married for many years, though.

  • I believe that's the only footage posted so far. The TV station erased all the original episodes. The female was Poppy the Clown, who no longer entertains as a clown. The show was taped at KDFI studios on Regal Row in Dallas.

  • I was on the show twice, and won some gi joes, I want to see more, what was the female clowns name? it was recorded in los colinas right?

  • @rlmotorcycles Her name was Poppy <3

  • I was on this show as a child. I'd love to see more/longer of these videos.. Thank you for posting. And thanks for bein' such a good memory in my childhood John.

  • Thanks! Our producer may have kept video copies of the shows, but the station erased theirs. This was back before digital technology! Good to hear from one of the "Gallery Gang" after all this time!
