  • truely great and powerful song . therapy? made a great cover but still i think this is better. depends on the day very much

  • Someday someone will make a 'pinkamena diane pie' joke on here... if i could think of one, I'd be the first.

    Mould kicks ass 0.0

  • This is freaking crazy!!!!!!!!!! I freaking this on robert street!!!!!!!! Oh my god!!!!!!! I just heard this song on sound opinions

  • @darkage5 I wasn't referring to the uncensored v. the censored version of the vid, but rather an interview with Cairns regarding a specific lyric change he inadvertantly made in the Therapy? cover. I think the lyrics are the same in both, no? But yes, Roy only wanted "more life, fucker!"

  • I've listened to this many times over and over and I still can't hear the lyric that Andy Cairns of Therapy? changed so drastically that Grant Hart mentioned it in a negative way in an interview years later. (I love both versions, btw.) Anyone know?

  • @RoyBatty666

In the video they leave out the line "I think i will just rape you and kill you instead." Not sure if it was censored or left out intentionally. I like both versions but you can never improve on the original. P.S. Roy Batty the greatest tragic hero ever! All he wanted was to keep on living.

  • such a great sound.

  • SRBIJA!

  • Love this song so much. Therapy's version as well. Though to be honest, to me they are two different songs, and either you're down with the total reinterpretation of the new song, or you're probably sickened by its dark nature, or are overwhelmed by the diversity of the imaginative reconstruction of the song. Or you're a control freak, and the idea that someone's touched YOUR (you know- not Husker Du's - Your) song just hurts you. lol. Peace love and understanding people.

  • @JiS01 My God, you are awful

  • @JiS01 My god, this is punk, it sounds like it looks like it, and guess what it probably even smells like it! But it sltill beats some crappy sugarcoated pop thats been forgotten before it even hits the streets...!

  • @JiS01 Yes, that's why it's amazing good!!

  • As I see (hear?) it the vocals are not melodic by HD standards and are really emotionless, detached from the intense music and so cold they perfectly match a sad murdering bastard's point of view. If this was faster or more melodic it would lose its power. You heard the song and found it creepy so I'm right.

  • always tought this was from Therapy? sorry Husker Du, great song!

  • Here, the very poignant cuz it's all so true, song written from the Killers point of view. Diane was a high school girlfriend of Grant hart (drummer). There are two covers- Therapy? who i love, but the version by Gravenhurst is another example of a cover being totally different - slowed down but as chilling as the original. Should i post that , too? Ok, remind me

  • can u post lyrics? theyre kinda hard to make out

  • One of my favs, check out Superdrag's cover, its blazing

  • have they recover it ever?

  • hard to believe in their heyday that they were (a from the Midwest and (b the heaviest thing on SST!

  • Husker Du, one of my favourite punk bands ever...like DK, UK SUBS, The Exploited

  • i think the difference " the difference is" therapy are more bikey than h d. non?

  • it just says therapy are fans of husker du. me too, nice song. a diane was killed just 200 yards from me, diane fallon. wierd shit,

  • I know they both wrote for the band, but does grant sing or does bob mould do it all?

  • @MattyStevensonBishop Grant's singing this song. He also sings Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill, Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonely, Standing By The Sea, It's Not Funny Anymore, Never Talking To You Again, Pink Turns Blue, Green Eyes, he sings pretty much half of their songs.

  • @TheTrainRex cool, thanks.

  • It was Diane Edwards, not Diane Richards

  • @Airickk2021 cool...

  • @skatepunkzero

    You know shit dude !!!

  • @LeTallec1980 you know shit too

  • @LeTallec1980

Yes you do, i really believed this song was written by a band called "Therapy?"

    o well live/love and learn!!

    angelique1307

  • @angeliquehoegee You too are a fucking moron!! This song was done originally by Husker Du you stupid dumb fuck!!

  • @aaronquy1968 If you read what they said, they thought Therapy was the original but then they learned thaty it is Husker Du.

  • @aaronquy1968 both great bands. chill

  • @diefortacos Therapy is NOT a great band numb nuts!

  • @aaronquy1968 Yes they are.. highly underrated

  • @azrael666ethereal Ummm NOPE! Therapy sucks!

  • @aaronquy1968 Each to their own...

  • @LeTallec1980 LOL! skatepunkzero is a douche bag and so are the 3 peeps that gave him a thumbs up! Fucking losers!

  • @Airickk2021

Therpay made cool songs (e. g. Screamager, Nowhere).

But their cover of Diane is so fucking shit.

  • @Airickk2021 this one is better, more emotion, this band knows what they are singing about, therapy missed that feeling...

  • @TheDJswart i don't know what you are talking about. have you listened to therapy?'s version with the violins? it has a lot of emotion in it and sounds very haunting. i'm not saying anything about which one is better though.

  • @Airickk2021 FUCKING DIE IF YOU THINK THERAPYS VERSION EVEN TOUCHES THIS.

  • @daiforme well, Its alot, sorry if you have deaf ears...

  • @Airickk2021 dude don't fuck with the originals

  • @Airickk2021 Cuz you are a fucking moron is why! Husker Du is the ONLY version of this song period!!!

  • @aaronquy1968 no.. a band called 'Therapy?' covered this song in 1995

  • Comment removed

  • @Airickk2021 I completely agree.

  • @Airickk2021 actually it is better... or then it isnt, depends on a day you listen. hard to tell which one is better 'cause they both are just brilliant

  • @Airickk2021 completely different - not comparable....

  • jesus what a thing to build a song around. makes it so powerful...

  • why don't you quit being pussies and enjoy a half-decent song

  • Per Wikipedia:

The horrific murder depicted in the anguished "Diane" is based upon the murder of West St. Paul waitress Diane Edwards by Joseph Ture in 1980. The title pronunciation, "Diane", makes a quibble with the word "dying" (and the background vocals sing the word "Diane" in a way that makes it sound like "Die Ann"). The music was covered by Irish band Therapy? in 1995, Superdrag in 1998 and Gravenhurst in 2004.

  • bill likes alot!!! Die Anne.

  • Diane Edwards was not a high school friend ... he did not know them personally, he said in an interview... but a lot of his friends...

  • This is a great fucking song (I don't play on words...that would be aweful). The cover and the clip by Therapy? are really awesome too...what else to say?...Masterpiece.

P.S.:sorry,my taylor is rich but my English is poor (I'm French...)

  • @Khliph Unlucky mate! I'm french too! :(

  • Comment removed

  • I like the sound of this.

  • is there a better quality version, the background noise is disturbing

  • @coffeesombi Hüsker Dü might not be the band for you if you find a little bit of noise disturbing. The lyrics are what most people find disturbing, by the way.

  • @ibelieveicansoar noise is disturbing my experience to listen this, and that has nothing to do with the kind of disturbing that people find when in the lyrics

  • Diane Richards, one victim of serial killer Joe Ture, was a high school friend (not girlfriend) of drummer Grant Hart, who wrote and sings the song. Making the lyrics from the killer's POV was an artistic choice. My interpretation is that the goal was to make the crime and its victim less faceless/anonymous.

  • @grokkalot everyone thumbs this up

  • @grokkalot Diane Edwards

  • @grokkalot her name was diane edwards

  • @grokkalot diane edwards wasn't a high school friend... he doesn't know her privat he said at a interview... but a lot of his friends knew her...

this is one of the best songs ever!

  • @grokkalot

Didn't know that. Makes a powerful song even more poignant.

  • Her name was Diane Edwards

  • @grokkalot

Wow, I didn't know that! You mean to say the lyrics written from the killers vehicle or have I misunderstood the acronym. Thanks for the insight. I though it was a helluva a song to begin with. This song is even more powerful than I thought

  • @grokkalot

    Her name was Diane Edwards

  • Didnt realise therapy? didnt write the original . Heard the name husker du in the past but nothing by them . Listening to this , they sound like a decent band . If anyones got opinions on the best album to listen to by them i`d appreciate it.

  • @mufcdarren IMO, their best album is New Day Rising. Listen to that and then check out Zen Arcade.

  • @dunklefester thanks mate,will do

  • @mufcdarren Candy Apple Gray, Wharehouse Songs and Stories and Flip your wig

  • @tlm315 i`ll look em up mate. The songs ive heard sound alike which is good coz i like there raw type of sound

  • @mufcdarren Not a problem at all..get a chance to check them out let me know what you think. they were a very good band

  • The rapy are cunt-sucking cocks. Tried their best to murder a great (rapy-murder) song - can't wait to hear their version of Polly! What they don't realise is, due to them being bereft of a soul, they will languish in the pit of mediocracy for all eternity... Actually that's a bit kind... Therapy are way below mediocre, they're possibly below 'king of the kiddie fuckers' Gary Glitter.

  • It doesn't matter who wrote it, if they know the girl or not. It's just about a sick fuck who raped and killed someone. Everyone can relate to that if you're from a big town or city. Timeless song. Cause it still happens everywhere, anywhere

  • my town killed this band. their last show was at a local venue that's still around called the blue note.

  • @Ziplock74 Your town didn't kill Husker Du. Drugs and ego killed 'em.

  • this is such a great band. and by the way this version is much better than therapys by far

  • Bob Mould (the singer in Husker Du) wrote this song to his friend that was raped and kille :( . its a sad but very very good song.

  • Its Grant Hart's (drummer) who wrote and sung this one, a masterpize!

  • therapy version sucks

  • @hutchenbuzz therapy sang the song and gave it the musicality the lyrics deserved

  • I think this is the sort of song that just grows on you.

  • everytime i listen to this song i am amazed by its brilliance and at the same time dumbfounded by some of the comments people have put. get your facts straight before writing them down!

  • Kurt Cobain must have listened to this to write a song called Polly...

  • anybody know how to get this sounds

  • just so everyone knows

the song is from the killers point of view, which would explain the "I think I'll just rape you and kill you instead"

  • Yeah, Therapy? has the lyrics and the creepy feel, but Husker Du has the killer guitar.

  • Songs like this aint made anymore..

  • @tehvuune fuck you

  • I like how 'unfinished' it is; its like an indefinite echo of vague power.

  • @peasantti guess your not a punk fan

  • @skatepunkzero anarchy, man. fuck the fucking pigs

  • @Mariodoot Well not anarchy, but maybe a miniarchy libertarian society

  • hey wie geillllllll, Erinnerungen an alte Zeiten!

    Thanks for this........

  • @togurotoguro hahaha just read on wikipedia too!

  • @ifoundthiscamera i prefer wikipedia instead of rumours.its more practic as i see it.XD

  • there best tune

  • it was NOT about any of the bands girlfriends..it was about an infamous brutal murder in 1980 of a waitress called Diane Edwards. either way..ace tune

  • I thought the original was by therapy... in what year did husker du make this track?

  • @black4pienus 1983, Husker Du wrote about a firend of theirs that was murderd

  • @thechubbsy Im not usre if it was a friend of theres, someone they might or it just happened in there town. But song tells it in first person

  • @thechubbsy

It was written about a girlfriend of a friend of theirs or something alike. Anyway, the song is about a real-life story of that girl being raped and murdered. The song is indeed written from the perspective of the murderer, with a desparate crying out of her name in the chorus. I think it's a very haunting song.

    Rutger.

  • @thechubbsy Ever heard of 'polly'?

  • @thechubbsy Maybe it´s similar to Nirvanas "rape me"

  • @dumbzebra Or 'Johnny Rock n Roll Pauline' by X ('Rock n Roll' = Rape n Beat - X no longer will play that song because skinheads were into the song thinking it was pro-rape.)

  • @salinagrrrl69 It's Johnny Hit and Run Pauline, about a guy who rubs up against girls and runs away.

  • oh mann, das lied such ich schon seit ewigen jahren, alte kassel loch-zeiten...yeah! :)

  • A masterpiece.

  • Good,old days,l haven't heard this for so long.Beautiful,sharp,ultra-melodic noise.Legendary.

  • great song!

  • Diane Edwards was a waitress killed by Joseph Ture in 1980. A well-known case.

  • beautiful. and heartbreaking

  • Iv'e never heard of them before..... awesome song

  • Therapy ? в сто раз круче! its shit...

  • Great tune, cool band! I need more Husker Du records...

  • ripped from Wikipedia: Diane was originally recorded by US band Hüsker Dü for their Metal Circus EP in 1983. The song was written by Grant Hart, and concerns the the murder of West St. Paul waitress Diane Edwards by Joseph Ture in 1980.

  • I beleive Diane Edwards was an aquaintance of the band members from high school. She was abducted while walking down Robert St after working at Perkins restaurant. She was subsequently murdered.

  • Yeah, its a true story based on a murder.

But really. People. "I heard they were both gay"??!! "I heard it was about his girlfriend"?!!

    WTF?

    So,let me get this straight.

    You think:

As long as he wasnt gay and drove his girlfriend down Roberts Street, raped her, and killed her with a knife, everythings hunky dory because its a great song, but, ....just a bit twisted.

oh PHEW...he's GAY. Oh. Phew. Close one there.

    Man. You guys are weird.

  • a real person was raped and murdered is that true awfull but they were both gay who was gay the muderer

  • "oh PHEW...he's GAY. Oh. Phew. Close one there."

that was the worst cluster of words EVER typed. congratulations moron.

  • @shane5362000 WEIRD???? Whats weird?? Your weird.

  • love this song cheers :D

  • Thanks for info proxelies. This is one of my most fav. songs all times! Next to this listen to Cave's Deanna and it will really blow your mind!

  • Both Mould and Hart are gay, the songs about a waitress from St. Paul that was murdered in 1980 by the name of Diane Edwards.

  • Coffin Break covered thisand did a great job, but nothing beats the original.

  • Yep, an irish band called Therapy? covered it really well too

  • Grant's girl friend was murdered. This is the song he wrote about it. Chilling

  • wow, never knew the song was about that, it does make it chilling.

  • Isn't Grant Hart gay, though?

  • No, It's Bob Mould who is gay.

  • They are actually both gay, I remember reading it in an interview a long time ago. The two of them were never together but they are both gay.

  • I've read that Grant Hart is as well.

  • I didn't know that about Grant Hart. Just goes to show the more I know, the less I know. i had always heard it was about his girlfriend. I guess the story was just a beard for the truth. All said, I love this song and they were a great and influential band. Cheers!

  • i cant get the jist is grant hart the songwriter n its about his girlfriend diane edwards but who killed her grant or did a stranger kill her

  • a stranger killed her

  • this is a fucking killer song.

    x.

  • Hell yea

  • actually, there is a video floating around on my old computer but i can't find it, i will try to upload the tune, but im a bit computer retarded.

  • i've got audio somewhere, but no video...
