@darkage5 I wasn't referring to the uncensored v. the censored version of the vid, but rather an interview with Cairns regarding a specific lyric change he inadvertantly made in the Therapy? cover. I think the lyrics are the same in both, no? But yes, Roy only wanted "more life, fucker!"
I've listened to this many times over and over and I still can't hear the lyric that Andy Cairns of Therapy? changed so drastically that Grant Hart mentioned it in a negative way in an interview years later. (I love both versions, btw.) Anyone know?
In the video they leave out the line "I think i will just rape you and kill you instead." Not sure if it was censored or left out intentionally. I like both versions but you can never improve on the original. P.S. Roy Batty the greatest tragic hero ever! All he wanted was to keep on living.
Love this song so much. Therapy's version as well. Though to be honest, to me they are two different songs, and either you're down with the total reinterpretation of the new song, or you're probably sickened by its dark nature, or are overwhelmed by the diversity of the imaginative reconstruction of the song. Or you're a control freak, and the idea that someone's touched YOUR (you know- not Husker Du's - Your) song just hurts you. lol. Peace love and understanding people.
@JiS01 My god, this is punk, it sounds like it looks like it, and guess what it probably even smells like it! But it sltill beats some crappy sugarcoated pop thats been forgotten before it even hits the streets...!
As I see (hear?) it the vocals are not melodic by HD standards and are really emotionless, detached from the intense music and so cold they perfectly match a sad murdering bastard's point of view. If this was faster or more melodic it would lose its power. You heard the song and found it creepy so I'm right.
Here, the very poignant cuz it's all so true, song written from the Killers point of view. Diane was a high school girlfriend of Grant hart (drummer). There are two covers- Therapy? who i love, but the version by Gravenhurst is another example of a cover being totally different - slowed down but as chilling as the original. Should i post that , too? Ok, remind me
@MattyStevensonBishop Grant's singing this song. He also sings Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill, Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonely, Standing By The Sea, It's Not Funny Anymore, Never Talking To You Again, Pink Turns Blue, Green Eyes, he sings pretty much half of their songs.
@TheDJswart i don't know what you are talking about. have you listened to therapy?'s version with the violins? it has a lot of emotion in it and sounds very haunting. i'm not saying anything about which one is better though.
@Airickk2021 actually it is better... or then it isnt, depends on a day you listen. hard to tell which one is better 'cause they both are just brilliant
The horrific murder depicted in the anguished "Diane" is based upon the murder of West St. Paul waitress Diane Edwards by Joseph Ture in 1980. The title pronunciation, "Diane", makes a quibble with the word "dying" (and the background vocals sing the word "Diane" in a way that makes it sound like "Die Ann"). The music was covered by Irish band Therapy? in 1995, Superdrag in 1998 and Gravenhurst in 2004.
This is a great fucking song (I don't play on words...that would be aweful). The cover and the clip by Therapy? are really awesome too...what else to say?...Masterpiece.
P.S.:sorry,my taylor is rich but my English is poor (I'm French...)
@coffeesombi Hüsker Dü might not be the band for you if you find a little bit of noise disturbing. The lyrics are what most people find disturbing, by the way.
@ibelieveicansoar noise is disturbing my experience to listen this, and that has nothing to do with the kind of disturbing that people find when in the lyrics
Diane Richards, one victim of serial killer Joe Ture, was a high school friend (not girlfriend) of drummer Grant Hart, who wrote and sings the song. Making the lyrics from the killer's POV was an artistic choice. My interpretation is that the goal was to make the crime and its victim less faceless/anonymous.
Wow, I didn't know that! You mean to say the lyrics written from the killers vehicle or have I misunderstood the acronym. Thanks for the insight. I though it was a helluva a song to begin with. This song is even more powerful than I thought
Didnt realise therapy? didnt write the original . Heard the name husker du in the past but nothing by them . Listening to this , they sound like a decent band . If anyones got opinions on the best album to listen to by them i`d appreciate it.
The rapy are cunt-sucking cocks. Tried their best to murder a great (rapy-murder) song - can't wait to hear their version of Polly! What they don't realise is, due to them being bereft of a soul, they will languish in the pit of mediocracy for all eternity... Actually that's a bit kind... Therapy are way below mediocre, they're possibly below 'king of the kiddie fuckers' Gary Glitter.
It doesn't matter who wrote it, if they know the girl or not. It's just about a sick fuck who raped and killed someone. Everyone can relate to that if you're from a big town or city. Timeless song. Cause it still happens everywhere, anywhere
everytime i listen to this song i am amazed by its brilliance and at the same time dumbfounded by some of the comments people have put. get your facts straight before writing them down!
