  • i live in Miramichi, New Brunswick and the download speed is usaully around 0.75 - 1.5

  • Hey 5010, I saw your post on the xplornet sucks forums long ago about creating your own DSL to Wireless backhaul. Just wondering whereabouts in rural ontario you are? I'm in the quinte region and am looking to do the same. 3Mbps "Expedience" radio from Xplornet and it SUCKS!

  • @techieauric I'm just north of you past Kingston - I've since set up 2 systems on contract for others to cover rural neighbourhoods and a larger system to cover my own area using silo's and a more robust wholesale internet connection. I realized the .gov or anyone else for that matter was not going to solve this problem, solving it for myself is one of the best things I have ever done.

  • @50ten Do you have an email address I can contact you at? I wouldn't mind hearing a little more about the rural neighbourhood coverage systems you have setup. I'm assuming you used MicroTik or Ubiquity equipment to do this? Anyway, like yourself I'm an IT Professional and wannabe BF3 gamer living in Rural ontario.

    Cheers

  • isp dont guarantee speeds

  • XPLORNET IS THE WORST INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER EVER !!!! DON'T BE FOOLED BY THEIR FALSE ADVERSTISINGS !!! THEIR NEW HTS SATELLLITE IS NOT WORTH PAYING $ 89.99 A MONTH FOR ONLY 5.0MBPS AND 30GB OF MONTHLY USAGE ! YOURE BETTER OFF WITH ROGERS OR BELL !!!

  • @Doombot85 did you get the 4g satellite internet? please respond i want to know if it is good :)

  • @XxMW3MLGxX

nope ! but i used to work for xplornet and let me tell you : its not worth it ! you have to pay an initial $ 50 ( non refundable) towards the system " upgrade" and if you want to sign a 2-year, 3 year contract, it will cost ya around $ 70- $ 89 bucks a month for a measly 30 GB monthly cap, the system itself is $ 499 !

  • Bravo mister 50ten!!!..well done

  • I know im not switching to Xplornet but i am wondering if there is something better than mine out there... anyone else with Wildrose that has been having problems for the last week?

  • I'm with Wildrose Internet and it has been an OK service for about 4 years now i think. There werea couple of weeks when my internet kept cutting out every 2 min or so. I used a program called PingPlotter to see that my latency every couple of minutes went to 20,000 and than cut out. everything has been good for about a year and now the problem is back again... thinking of switching to NCSnet but I'm not sure i can trust them either. Speeds with with Wildrose have been between 0.5 - 1.5 Mbps

  • i think xplornet should do something about this issue...i been under xplorenet for 3 years and i keep getting the shitiest connection ever!....i have a 3mbps internet connection and i do a speed test every week and it barely gets to 1 mbps...i cant even enjoy online gaming with lag! all the dame time when i play its lag right of the bat! it struggles to even find a match on a FPS game....i'm sick of it...i tried switching to a differnet ISP but no other ISP are available in my area!!

  • was this the satalite or like the fixed wireless?

  • Hi there, my name is Erin Collins and I am a national Reporter with the CBC. I am working on a story on Explornet and would love to talk to whoever made this video. You can email me at erin.collins@cbc.ca if you are interested. Cheers, EC.

  • This is the worst internet provider i have ever had. 3 weeks for them to go to your house to fix your internet. The internet is 1 bar 24/7 i live 2 km from town and have no obstructions in the way of my house. I'm getting ready to sue. All they do i take your money. Go with shaw or rogers if you can.

  • FYI the government subsidies subsidize the rates of the internet packages. Without the subsidies you would probably be paying close to 100$ a month for a starter package.

  • Comment removed

  • Using tax dollars? lmao really? that's one of the "beefs" like Bell and Rogers do not? 'clearly they can break laws'...again...really? there are government agencies for just that reason...it is not hard to get good/decent service from these people...you just have to approach in a sensible way...I worked there for several years...first thing I can tell you is that you should know the equipment you're dealing with, its limitations and applications...and probably drop the conspiracy theories...

  • @KewlMoD

Xplornet is a whole different level even than Bell, and that's saying something.

I know perfectly well the limitations of wireless technology, specifically the Canopy crap that Xplornet pumped out from coast to coast. They over loaded too few towers without enough backhaul, Their network is crap and a waste of resources.

  • @50ten

That's a reasonable statement. Backhaul issues are a reasonable complaint. I haven't worked there for about a year now, so I don't know if that is an issue or not. it is just that for every one person who has a reasonable argument, there are 5 others screaming at front line reps who have about as much input into the workings of the network and company as you or I do. if those front line people are treated with respect and courtesy, they'll be more apt to go the extra mile to help.

  • Haha...

This phone call sounds like the 5000 other calls I have made...

They always blame my router, my computer they tell me its bloody viruses yet I have done tons of virus scans and taken my computer to a computer repair service.

Im near your area outside of Toronto and can only use Xplorenet or Bell Dialup.

Bell has being saying for years they will get highspeed in my area. That was around 9 years ago.

But whatever this company is clearly allowed to break laws. And we have to suffer.

  • I've looked at the home made microwave solution too, just no line of sight to any place useful. Aside from the slow service, tech support varies between catch 22 limbo and pretty good, I think they might have one guy who knows his stuff.

  • All ISP's do this though... None of the advertised speeds actually equal that amount in real world applications.

For example, Shaw says it's a 25Mbps connection. It should download at 3.15MB/s

    It only does 600KB/s. That's a 4.8Mbps connection.

  • @Kardall it's still WAY BETTER than explornet

  • Xplornet bought my account off Netkaster and throttled speed down by 70% compared to what I was getting from Netkaster.

The customer service and tech support claimed they were giving same service as Netkaster. No so I say, I know, I was with Netkaster almost 4 years. Customer Service girl told me to cancel if I didnt like it. Too bad so sad attitude. It seems they dont care if they rip off - they have taken enough tax payer $ + bought out small providers. Monopoly!! Nasty Company.

    I hope lots of other

  • i liked and favourited this video before i even watched it...because anyone who hates explornet is a friend of mine

  • OMG ty for bitching at them i have called plenty of times for the same reason

  • Its awesome that i have the "up to 5.0mbps" and ive never seen over 1.5mbps.

Average speed is something like 0.2mbps

  • They first told me that the tower I was connected to was giving 5 megabits. Then AFTER a contract was made they told me it was capped at 3. Now it's usually less than 2 and sometimes less than 1. When more than 1 person is on the internet, it doesn't work properly... I hope Telus Communications makes lines out to here because they're the best. Xplornet does nothing but false advertise and rip people off!

  • xplornet said there putting a new satellite up with up to 10mbps of download speed in may.It cost them 100's of millions to put up using Canadian tax $.This should be free for me i allready paid for it with my tax $.HAHAHA as if huh.People do not get this internet.Even if u get the top of the line 10Mbps u will get throttled down to less then 10% of that. And im sure the cost will be more ridiculous then there customer service.Im on the 1mbps and my speed is less then 95% of that all day everyday

  • what are you talking about guy xplornet is so good......haha joke

  • if you have xplornet get switched to the expedience service your service will be much better as long as there are not oversubcribed towers in your area or shitty back haul problems on the tower unfortunately these are common issues

  • Thanks for the heads up. I got a flyer in the mail and its going in the recycling bin.

  • move to where there is dsl mr.programmer!!!!

  • @goosebumpshavana

Or better yet... Build my own microwave link to where there is DSL and cancel Xplornet :)

I've actually done that now. I find it extremely upsetting what Xplornet has done with our tax money but in the same breath, I'm not gonna sit around and wait for someone to make them provide the service they are suppose to either. I solved the problem for myself.

Great input though(sarcasm) moving is a bit EXTREME don't you think? shouldn't have to move just to get decent internet.

  • xplornet sucks !!!! they wont let me play online on my ps3 there gayyyy!!!

  • This is the same with KOS internet.

  • So, after all this, how can farmers and rural dwellers condemned thus far to 56k dial up,entertain the hope they will one day become more than second class citizens in Canada?

    crokepark

  • I've also have many times where I or my mom would try to get to a level 2 tech or a level 3 tech and it would take hours and hours and I would just give up im amazed nothing has gone through to sue/boycott or do anything to prevent this. Sorry for the spam but i find this easier to vent my anger -.-

  • Why am i on the same boat with you... I just moved out into the country and before that i had Shaw as my ISP provider.. They were good and it pisses me off when i cant do anything when im signed up for the second best internet they provide. I'm constantly getting 1k lat to the closest city to me. And bullshit they don't guaranty speed when they have more than 100 people crammed onto 1 tower, i also have had to call their tech many of times and all they tell me to do is unplug shit from m comp.

  • lol I think shaw is doing the same thing they say I get 10 MB and speed tests say 10 MB but when I download something it's only like 100-300 KB but I get like a one second burst then my stable rate. WTF LOL

  • Hey man, fantastic video! If everyone took the kind of stance you did, these companies wouldn't be able to mess with people's lives like they do.

In response to your comment on my video, I must warn you I'm not Alan Watt, nor do I have any personal contact with him. But you can get in touch with him at cuttingthroughthematrixDOTcom

    All the best, brother.

  • If I have the Xpress package is that considered wireless or satellite?

  • That's the "3.0Mbps Wireless" package. Full speed bursting upto 3.5MB with a 700Kbps sustained speed.

  • @50ten lol it took me haalf an hour to watch this video :P

  • @50ten DId you block out the word before computers? why :P

  • Does the girl in the video know you recorded her?

The internet company i'm with gave me 30 days to try my internet...does xplornet?

  • She was representing Xplornet who also recorded the phone call. Under Canadian privacy laws I have every right to record my own telephone calls. It's also NOT an invasion of her privacy since she is on the job speaking for Xplornet not herself, we didn't discuss our personal lives, just business.

I do commend her for doing an excellent job on behalf of Xplornet, they couldn't ask for a better representative. Like I said though, this isn't personal.

I did however remover her work phone #.

  • As far as I know they do have a 30 day trial period, however I assumed a contract when I bought my house so I didn't receive the trial period.

Xplornet became increasingly slow beginning about last December for me and I only started to uncover most of the facts a couple of weeks ago while waiting on hold ironically and waiting for tech support from them.

  • @50ten the 30 day free try usually means your internet will be what you want or decant enough to game to a server close to where you are its nothing special but it will get the job done. After the 30 day free try they lie too you and say "Hey spend $10 more a month and get some stupid static IP to burst your internet" it barley affects it.

  • The only internet provider I know of that gives you 30 days to try... IS Xplornet! :P

  • Thank you! You've just said everything that I've tried to say to them! And notice how they just brush it off! We upgraded from the 1.5 to the 3 package and same speed still, just a longer burst. I heard they've started limiting how much people can download in a month, is this true?

  • @shippothekit8 not on fixed wireless internet

  • So if I have the Xpress package is that wireless internet or satellite? Will they put a limit on me?

  • @shippothekit8 The Xpress package would be considered wireless but yet i wouldn't go with either because you end up paying more for nothing i got the 5mb or the 3mb i cant remember. I think of a limit of how many people are put onto 1 tower, then with that bandwidth with that 1 tower everyone would get their "fair share" of the bandwidth most of the time that means little or nothing at all when it comes to me getting 1-2k lat spikes

  • You're Welcome! Unfortunate folks like ourselves are the reason I made this video. I don't believe they should be able to get away with using our tax money to setup a service which doesn't provide the services required of it and it's time they start to deliver or else stop receiving public money.

I don't know about any capping although I did get an add in my mailbox which said "no limit" on it.

  • nice bandaid over canada someone knows how to use photoshop :P anyways couldn't agree more we need to fight back companies need to know that we're not going to tolerate bullshit like this

  • Thanks woodenbeard! A good friend of mine made it.

  • wow all that grant money out of our pockets so they can get fat and not provide the basics

  • There's no reason why they can't provide the required services and still be profitable.

  • Great video Jon :) Xplornet sucks

  • good for you jon !
