i think why i like your work is the synaesthesic relationship between sound and visuals. So many directors/cameramen focus on the visual narratives using sound effects to heighten the visual. But with your work it seems the sonic is the inspiration for the visual :) ....I need to check out more of your work....
I liked the opening seq. Think you go the relationship of movement between things really nicely. I also liked the long pulls with the guy standing in the centre of the walk way. KEEP ON!!
obviously i know about auschwitz i think everyone does i just didnt want to look like a fool and blurt the name out. there where many other death camps you know. Im not sure i could go there i think id have a breakdown, I cant deal with evil placs like that (and im from south london!). I read that they killed 8 MILLION people there is that right? maybe it was 8 million in all the death camps i cant remember.
good work, i think you did a lot to capture a bit of feeling from those who are there and those who vist. and those who will find peace. what were your houghts through the rain? and filming the people walking around the puddle?
I jumped at the thunder, I couldn't be so brave as to stand outside during the thunder and lightening with a camera. Brilliant though, wonderful footage.
amazing. I never in my life thought i would watch an "artistic" video on youtube but i stumbled across this and ended up watching the whole thing. I really felt the power of emotions and I took my own message from the video. Where did you shoot the video though? is it a german deathcamp?
tom ..cool shots . its weird how a tourist place has its own weird attached identity..historical places ..we dont want a time machine to go back there... we dont really want to be in ancient egypt because we would be screwed..dumped into a perilious and dangerous foriegn culture. but we traipse through feeling like we have touched something of the meaning...theres a fugazi lyric about touching your hand to the wall at night ..something about that line always stuck with me ...a simple gesture xx
Evokes a powerful atmosphere. The shot of Mark's hand touching the wall at the end really sums it up for me, the element of human contact that is needed when remembering this chapter in mankind's history, that's what can hold back the slide into a blasé attitude, just another tourist destination for the coach operators.
Stasis defines the flow of peaks and troughs well for this piece. A fluid walking line punctuated with sharp stabbing edges, focus set against the background of wonder and uncomfort. No where safe to hide but safety itself.
really good, so atmospheric, you get across the darkness, and those neo-nazis lookalikes add just the right amount of fear (i know they're harmless and just dress that way)
having Mark Bass there makes it universal for me, its not just something that matters to white people.

Dark Art !
Absolutely a classic, an ode to the fallen.
A reminder of the evil that will forever lurk in Germany's soul.
Let's not forget.

Germany's not evil, unfortunately hate is a universal condition.
Peace.
