My husband must have this because he can't be alone, he depends on me more then he should. He does everything like work, he pays the bills and buys the groceries but he doesn't handle being alone very well at all. He feels abandonment very easily and will lash out or try to punish me if I didn't answer the phone or if I came home late even though he knew I was at my parents house. Gets attached to things, can't throw things away. Needs touch and lots of attention. Has a hard time making a decis
do u think this could be applied to technology in that we are becoming increasingly dependant on technology for evryday tasks!? i know it cannot be directly applied but i thought maybe there could be some correllation between the two!(technology and dependant personality disorder) what u think???
@akkibox I found her really inappropriate. I have some pretty solid dependent issues and I was really offended by her approach to this topic. She seemed really insensitive. With the laughing and almost reveling in the fact that a person with this doesn't really have a chance at a normal relationship. They'll either find someone who wants to take control over a person or a normal person will leave them. Cold.
this guy I see and have known for 10yrs has this. He never wants to do anything alone..like go to the grocery store alone. He has no other friends...just me. I can't stand it...I told him that he must have other things to do and people to hang out with. He told me that I just want him to make friends/ have hobbies so that I don't have to spend so much time with him....ARGH...Am I the only person who thinks not having friends/independent hobbies is unhealthy?
my son as this as well as other disorders, he is now 30 years old. he hears voices too. he as hit rock botttom, with no help or place to stay. how do you get help for people that have this. any help you can give would be very helpful, thank x
I used to have this badly but I am much better than I used to be. It's been a slow process. I work as a web developer now and an understanding friend sales rep for me and gets me the work and I share the money with him.
I feel compelled to say that for any Dependants out there, I, as a dependant and now independent, I found salvation in a new cutting edge therapy called TFT or Thought field Therapy, where you literally Tap your problems away. Problems like anxiety, anger, guilt, jealousy etc. It really was as if I had hit solid gold!
What people need to understand is that Personality Disorders are things that stick into one's life. As a result, they're only really diagnosed after young adulthood.
Many teens or young adults show "symptoms" of DPD or other personality disorders, but most tend to grow out of it as they mature. It is when they don't that a personality disorder is diagnosed.
i know i have avoidant personality disorder, abut idk about dependent. I dont cling on to anyone, but i cant make decisions, and when i do, i feel that the decision is always wrong, and i feel that everything i do isnt right. I have absolutely NO confidence in anything i do. I think that im inferior to everyone, ...but i dont cling on to people, because i dont have any friends. im 18..what is wrong with me?
i knew someone who started out like this, but then developed confidence around everyong except one person, for whom they maintained this kind of attachment, and who was visibly sapped of confidence when this person was around. the situation was made worse by this other person being what seemed like a paranoid personality. so the paranoid would take offense where there was none, and the dependant would actually believe they'd wronged the other person and stress and kick themself over it endlessly
This is the best Personality Disorder.
The world would be a better place if there were more people with DPD. Instead, the world is full of #$%@ narcissists.

I don't understand how this woman is a professional on this area and she is laughing when she shouldn't.

@ZhenFoxe Correction: personality disorders should only be diagnosed after young adulthood.

@DesertSmeagle You should probably get diagonosed by a professional if you haven't already. They'd be able to help you the most.
