@ExtantFrodo There is no change in the actual genetic sequence, that will always remain the same you. Only time the genetic sequence changes is during genetic recombination. The change is how your DNA is expressed which is determined by the proteins that are blocking the expression of the DNA. This is simple first year biology. The only notion that epigenetics actually discredits is the "central dogma" which is not even based on any scientific fact what so ever so why would you hold on to it?

@ExtantFrodo Looks like we are both missing a piece of information. I wouldn't doubt that Genetic Engineering Genes exist. Your DNA and genes are always changing by either damage or environmental factors. If a cell needs to adapt by changing its genetic sequence and adjusting it to its environment then why would that be considered impossible? Im sure nature or evolution would give such tools for a cell to survive. This is only one factor tho, i believe he is right about the rest, if not that.

I tried searching on google but google also filters there searches to specific listings which they can chose which doesn't really make it that reliable. Or in other words biased. You would probably have to look for the original paper some other way. I remember reading an article in a magazine about how experiences can actually change genetic codes, that might be what he was talking about.

A completely illogical lecture.He knows nothing about biology and how the biological systems work. The proteins he is talking about are made by the expression of genes. And what kind of response a cell will have depends on the the strucrure of proteins which is in turn determined by the genes. A change in a gene may lead to a nonfunctional protein which will make a cell unable to respond to external stimulus.

@aaminsagar I think he probably does know a great deal about real biology, however I suspect that he intentionally produces this sort of nonsense in order to tap into the lucrative new age/self-help market. On his website he's selling DVDs, CDs, books, etc all filled with his illogical and obscure nonsense. I guess hawking magic to the uninformed pays a lot more than doing real scientific research.

For anyone to argue that behavior is controlled through a genetic predisposition is ludicrous.That would say markers of irrational behavior are passed down from generation to generation. What accounts then for the families that never displayed such irrational behavior?

The case of hen and egg doesnot serve a good analogy to genes and proteins.Cz genes never sit back after making a protein.The proteins have short half life and are continously replaced by new proteins synthesised by the genes. The half life of a protein ranges from few minutes to few days but genes stay in the cell for its lifetime. And there are genes which direct irrational behaviour because the development of brain is directed by genes.

one of the most informative and enlightning books i've ever read is by him bruce h lipton and steve bhaerman! it's called Spontaneous Evolution! i highly recommend it to anyone and eveyone especially if you enjoy this presentation he goes all out in his book! his other book biology of belief is pretty good too!

I noticed too that many(?) people seem to have a vested interest in ignoring his lies. Don't take my word for it, Dr. Lipton himself says early on in the series that genes are ONLY switched on or off.

Now, try and switch on a necessary gene that codes for a foul broken protein. What will be the result?

He also points out that perception(s) of one's environment can influence beneficial mutation. The oversimplified paraphrase - "re-write your own genes" doesn't do it justice.

BL cites the John Cairn experiment with bacteria which lacked the DNA to digest lactose until a colony of that bacteria were limited to an environment supplying ONLY food requiring lactose digestion. The bacteria mutated accordingly & thrived

Everything he is saying is true, but he is missing the bits in between (inportant info). The Nucleus, and the DNA within it is what MAKES the proteins. It is the code which is responsible for assembling amino acids in a particular (functional) order. The cell can continue to exist without the nucleus for a while because the proteins which the Nucleus coordinated the assembly of are still inside the cell, and the changes in charge which occur via physical processes can still occur...for a while.
