we swordfish a lot over here in pensacola, florida in the gulf and its very comon to hook makos. our last trip we hooked a 700+ mako that we fought for an hour until he bit though the leader. the mako jumped 4 times almost 20 feet from the boat. theres no professional way to land them

Sharks - especially makos - are hard to gaff, I am speaking from experience. You will hear plenty of stories from capture gameboats of makos and tigers going nuts on flyers, wrapping themelves in the rope, breaking gaffs, gamaging boats. To be honest, there is no pretty or nice way to boat a mako sometimes. I am sure the getlit boys will agree with this :)

it was kinda cruel how you landed the mako but hey the bastards own it to them self i once landed a hammer head in kenya an released it bach into the water but you don't have to be afraid to go in the water with a shark tho:p you have to roll em over till there on their backs and then they are as calm as a baby lamb :p

I dont mind killing animals.. I spearfish and bowhunt myself.. But i dident like they way you guyes landed the mako.. poor shark..

I hear you! It was the first and last time for us boating a shark. And I'm not sure that there is any good way to do it anyway. Good luck with your spearfishing and bowhunting.

If you like sharks check out adoptashark dotcom it´s a website where you can adopt a shark, even a great white, with a satellite tag and they tell you where it went in the ocean, how deep etc. very cool
