WhiteMatrix, Asashoryu is so emotional and passionate, and these so called unncessary pushes and shoves are one of his tactics. You can see everyone is mentally afraid of him, he'is physically talented and very strong, but mentally he is the best out there, that's how he win all these championships being so small and short (comparing to hakuho, kotomitsuki, ktoooshuu etc)
He does not "discriminate" anybody. Everybody got pushed out (or "kicked out") just to make sure. Yeah, he is a "bad" guy, but without Asa the Sumo would have been "boring".
Somebody might get hurt? Yes, the seats need to be moved farther away from the dohyo and there should be some soft mattress or something around it so that the defeated guys have a soft landing.
In response to Mr.Kaz, Asashoryu is known for those antics. It was nice of him to help him up the dohyo, but his unnecessary pushes and kicks even after they are done is ridiculous. I know he is Yokozuna, but he is too cocky in my opinion. This is the main reason why Asashoryu is not one of my favorite wrestlers.
Billy, i'm not trying to be rude or arguing with you. But it's just that he prepares himself for every fight - like making himself braver. he just has this pride inside - not meaning glorifying himself or anything. he kind of shows the guys that he owns them. the push actually works for most of the sumo wrestlers; they are afraid of standing up againts him when wrestling. after all, it's not you but him who decides to be favorite of whose.
No offense taken. Your opinion is valid just like everyone else. I do see your point that he is showing everyone that he is good, but guys like Kotooshu and Baruto show how powerful they are without that extra needed kick or push. I did not quite understand your last sentence, but I think you were trying to say he isn't trying to be a favorite of anyone's. He is trying to be the best and he don't care who likes him and who hates him. Right?
I don't see Kotooshu that powerful. He's obviously a successful wrestler but most of the time, he's seen as a big guy with no harm to others. Baruto is more aggressive than him. In fact, I like Kotooshu more than Baruto.
oh about the last sentence, i just meant he doesn't have to be your favorite.
PS: of course, people like you do analysis based on what you see on tv. but people aware of wrestling (not fighting) see things different.
I don't do my analysis based on what I see on television. I am actually a Heavyweight Judo Champion and base my analysis off of experience from Judo. My goal is for the 2012 Olympics in London. So, my opinion is not based on just tv. Would be nice if I was not clumped into that little category of people you put there. Thank you.
Heavyweight Division. US Open...not this year. I had to take a year off. Was gone for 3 months because doctors thought I had cancer. After that, car broke down and had to buy a new car. So I had no money. Then my dojo shut down. So now, almost 1 year later, my dojo is re-opening and I can start again. Hopefully US Open next year. =)
so, Billy , you are actually comparing Kotooshu and Baruto to Asashoryu ? i mean come on, they are good, but Asashoryu is a legend, they are nowhere near him. And, yes, he just tries to be the best and dont care who like him or not, in his country he's a national hero !
I am not comparing Kotooshu and Baruto to Asashoryu when it comes to skills and talent. I am simply comparing the 3 when it comes to their attitude. I know Asashoryu is a great sumo wrestler and one of the best ever. I was simply saying his attitude could be better. That is why I mentioned Kotooshu and Baruto. They are good fighters, down to earth, and don't have to be to excessive to prove it. Again, I am not comparing them two to the skills of Asashoryu.
yeah - some people don't like it - I think it adds a bit of flair to his bouts... I would certainly disapprove if he did any extra damage to a foe with an unnecessary shove, but usually it's just for show

Why does Asashoryu do the extra push after the other guy gone out of dohyo? Certainly unnecessary.
