My family lives mere blocks from there. It was a definite loss from the business and building damages since that block had some historical presence to it. I checked the Brooklyn Public Library's archives and found an old 50s/60s pic of that exact corner and it looked just the same.
Sticking out of a part of the road on Flatbush and Ave. L is a piece of track from the old 41 trolley... I really love this borough!
Man...that was a BAD fire. I heard the investigators believe the Chinese restaurant started it (grease fire).
In any event, that was the Chase bank I would use whenever I was heading down to the Belt Parkway. Also, I usually got a coffee and bagel at Dave's. I hope they rebuild every store, including the overpriced Mac's Mens Shop.
so sad :-( my brother works in Mac's uniforms, and we live right in front of Mac's. this was a nightmare , to this day i still can't take this out of my mind.
@TheSocorro63 - SCORRO,IT WILL BE IN YOUR MIND AND HEART FOR A LONG TIME TO COME.JUST PRAY THAT THEY CAN REBUILD AGAIN SOON.PRAYERS TO YOUR BROTHER FOR THE LOSS OF HIS JOB.
The Flatbush Ave and Flatlands Ave intersection has always been bad luck... in 1997, a building on the corner of that intersection collapsed totally. Today, that corner houses a one floor furniture store. And personally speaking, I always see near car accidents happening there and fools being pulled over by cops at that intersection for turning on Flatbush Ave towards Flatlands Ave when you're not supposed to (except for buses.)
@stevenyou no, but the clothing store was. i heard it was there for a few decades. my mom and a few people i know remember that place from when they were younger
Not really Colonial (meaning British). The architecture is based on traditional Dutch designs, since the Dutch were the originally settlers of the Flatlands/Mill Basin area.
My Mother used to work in that bank when it was Manufactures Hanover Trust and we used to buy bagels at that bagel store every Sunday after Mass. I haven't been back to Brooklyn in 30 years. Thank God no one was hurt.
I was in Bergen Beach and the smoke was so thick. I could'nt even drive thru some of it to see where this fire was. Thank God no one was hurt and it was'nt a house fire. I got home smelling like Bacon Bitts. Now seeing the video, I think of all that burning money in the bank.
FDNY sucks donkey dick.

Thanks for uploading. The news story was too short on NBC, had to go online to get the details.

My Uncle used to own Bruce's Bagles. Sold it a few years ago. This was a real shame, thank God no one was hurt badly or anything.

@stevenyou
That building is not really a landmark, but is just historical for it's architecture because it shows a piece of colonial Brooklyn.
