The real reason the seal hunt will not be stopped by the government is because they are trying to maintain at least one industry on the east coat. Canada has stricter fishing regulations than many countries. If you want to stop the seal hunt then start supporting economic initiatives in Atlantic Canada. Once there are options for the fisherman the government will no longer see the need for an unpopular hunt.

this is a problem that is easily solved, it is exactly like the problem going on with the female circumcisions. The people who do the work and whose live and income are based around this type of work can be taken out of this type of field, and then trained in something else to help them once again make money as they would. Rob, the seal's skull is paper-thin. It is killed instantly by a well-placed pick. The writhing is revolting until you realize it's akin to the headless chicken thrashing about. The animal is clinically dead, the pain centre is disabled - or crushed, sure. The pneumatic hammer's blow on the oxen's forehead is no different.
It doesn't matter what colour they are. The hunt shoudl stop. The seals have it bad enough as it is. With ice floes melting due to global warming, they're all drowning! seal's are viscous animals. They tear apart and engulf Carp like no other. The Carp population is very small. It is very necessary to kill seals.
