(Okay, you're only half wrong according to a study done by Oak Ridge National Laboratory.)
A dirty air filter on a modern car has no effect on fuel economy. With a carbureted engine, you start to see a drop when the filter gets *really* dirty.
@TerryMMA85 It breathes better, but only at WOT. Did you remember what the throttle does?
The throttle blocks the airflow so the engine doesn't get too much air at the wrong time. When you have a clean air filter, the throttle just closes even closer when idling/cruising, which is practically 99% of the time.
If you still don't believe me, look up the study at fueleconomy DOT gov
@didgers look i have no problem with you but if you look at my post all i said was a clean air filter means the car can breathe alot better i did not even mention fuel
@metalirocz28 if thats all you ever see you must really look for those comments cause i rarely seen 1 or 2 in months. also dont stigmatise other brits with just the few comments youve seen. one comment doesnt represent 1 million people it just represents 1 pearson who saying his opinion.
@plasm2 ok buddy dont worry im not stigmatizing other brits i never said all Brits think that, i said the comments i have seen have always been from British people.
@xxxxmrwinoxxxx Dont wash it.. Dirt goes into the filter fabric...Best thing is take it out and clean it with a pressurized air hose, that is enough. But you can wash it after u cleaned it with air... I drove 45 thousand miles on the same air filter.. Only thing was i would clean it every few weeks.
@devonferris it can run you from $12 to $24, you want to get a regular one anyway cus I recommend you change it once every 10000mil to 15000mil. I'm drive in SF and the air is not so good here so yeah i bought a cheap one from Kragen like $12. change once evey 10k miles. hope it help.
thank God for youtube! i was going to take my car to my local auto shop to replace the air filter but now i can see that it's really simple; glad i can save some extra cash
wow that was the best design I've seen besides engines with carbs. I replaced a filter on an RX350 and an Eclipse and it's a bit of pain in the ass to open the cover since you gotta move and unscrew a couple of things to get to the filter element.
I have a 2000 Porsche Carrera and I'm looking at replacing my air filter myself. However, I can't find it!! I looked in the owners manual, and it doesn't give the location. I'm tired of taking my car into the dealership and having them bend me over every time I go in for what should be a simple operation. If anyone knows where this is located on my car, I would appreciate it. Thanks a bunch.
I looked at a picture of a Porsche Carrera's engine bay and it's in the box to the right....that huge box with a pipe going to it, there is an oil cap next to it.
also this guy was lucky, alot of air filters are no where near as easy as that to get to. I drive a c2 with a small engine, hence quite an empty engine bay and its still very very difficult to even get to the filter.
I recommend on Honda Civic's to greese the bolts once in awhile that fasten the top of the air filter cover because they can rust and If they do they bind with the metal studs that are mounted in plastic. If they are rusted together the metal stud damages the plastic and it's hard to get the bolts out.
thanks for that dude

@didgers im not saying it helps with fuel economy im just saying the car can breathe better.
TerryMMA85 5 months ago
@TerryMMA85 Okay. I'm just so used to people claiming that the improved flow improves mpg, that I assumed you were too.
I said the video is half right because, yes, it's good to change your air filter, but no, you don't get more fuel economy.
We just need to be a little more clear next time.

All the graphics and sound effects were so fuckin annoying, with the drill sound and the moving arrows. This could have been trimmed to 2 minutes.

wow, that's so easy. The dealers always make it seem like some type of impossible task that only qualified mechanics are able to do.
