Like the layout of the gauges, Not really into all the digital tacks & speed'os. If it can run 130 mph that's great. What year is this bike. Would like to know the fuel mileage per tank, Running hard & easy ? What the price is for a new one like this. Thank's, yl
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but much as I love my Wee-Strom they all have speedos that read 8%-10% fast. This bike was probably going around 115 mph.
i have a dl650 too, ive seen 190 on my speedo while riding with a givi top box, small tank bag, small panniers and a passenger. The bike does not feel nice at this high speed. Aerodynamics are to blame i think, not engine vibes. Love the engine
this bike is so smooth for a vee twin, i can see why they sold more 650 vees over the dl1000, this is the winner in the bunch, and a bullet proof engine being no slow poke either.it moves right ALONG, I HAVE A SV1000S MUCH MORE TORGUE,BUT THE VIBES SUCK,TREF
8600 rpm in sixth gear means that you ALMOST achieve 190 km/h with is 118mph, one thing is what the velocimeter tell you and another the real speed. Is not bad for a trail, but not a bike for these speed.
And yeh just to add.. I picked up aforementioned DL650(white) the other day and i havnt been able to get off it since. Speechless at the whole bike. Get one if youre thinking about it. Thats all i can say.
P.S the Trailwings are a fantastic choice for this bike.
203km/h is tops Ive placed my dl650. But after 170km it gets to trembly. Ill say best operation regime for its suspension is around 160km/h (with passenger). Still the best bike ever, no need to turn back if it rains, but yet conformtable enough not to need to stop for a sore ass... (And honestly going over 185km/h seems a tad innecessary)
Try 40 pounds homer. I have owned 500 bikes. Buyer for shop, ridden for 30 years. IQ higher that 90% of the population. No one really call me stupid much, and when they do I assume they are just ignorant. I wish you good luck living life with your attitude. It ain't gonna be easy for you. Oh, BTW, The V-Strom 650 was named one of the "ten best" bikes under $10,000 by Motorcyclist (USA) magazine, October, 2007—beating out, among many others, the V-Strom 1000. They are dumb and stupid too, huh?
After a while, I return here to answer all the questions and I think by mistake I remove a person who made a good comment about the bike. I apologize for this, also thank you for the comment.
For those who ride a 650 dl in a hot spots like South Florida, like where I live, I recommend using Motul 5100 15w50 oil , the engine on the We is very noisy, this oil makes the engine sounds less .
well , like I sed before , I had metzeler tourance , the tires are good, but not gripping as well as the originals trailwind, now I put my 2nd set of new tires , bridgestone trailwind .
if you have any vibration, I recommend that you balance the wheels on the dealer, which is what I did.
Just the stok engine plus KN air filter and a 16 teeth sprocket at the engine shaft .
On 6th gear at 6000 RPM I'm going at 88 MPH . If you have a 650 to and use it for daily commute to work , like me , I recommend to put a 16 teeth front sprocket , the byke change a lot , and the gas consumption is less to .26k miles and counting !
I can tell you that the speedo is off by 7%. I have verified this by two gps, a 2007 toyota camry and a 1997 olds 88ls. The best speed I have ever gotten on it was at 124 mph... I weight 172 lbs at 6ft. 1 in. So it would either have to have had the big bore put into it or be a DL1000 to hit that kinda of speed.
@Alexunder3D. I've personally done 210 with mine more than once on level/horizontal highways. Mind you, that besides downhill/uphill, top speed is also very affected by the wind... With no wind (or a bit at my side - i couldn't tell) 210km/h was possible without having changed air-filter or sprocket. Maybe also because i weigh only 64 kilos? i don't know :)
I also have a V-Strom 650 and I have GPS navigation that tells true speed. I've also had my bike up to "124" but my GPS reported that actual speed to be 108 MPH. At 100 on the speedo, actual speed is 93.
I rode my bike on the road next to a new Honda Civic, those with digital display on the dashboard and @ 85 miles per hour on the Civic Dash board , my bike marked 90, then I realized that the speedo has an error of 5 miles .( a lot )
How's she handle at that speed? Still feel planted? Gotta love that twin. Even at near red line the engine doesn't sound like it was complaining at all.
I already have two years with my byke, and every day I love it more, I hear many "scientists" say that the engine vibrates, which for me is not true, the engine is very smooth and likes the RPM, you ask for RPM, she gives you more , above 4000 RPM the engine became aggressive. With the windshield at the correct height, you feel almost nothing she goes at 80-100 mph (byke speedo) traveling fantastic, at 120 you can say still ok, and the most important thing is that the motorcycle not waves.
Yes I know that, but note that the V strom 650 does not have the same engine tuning that his street sister, the SV 650, therefore has less top end, but I think that speed is acceptable for a 650 touring.

This is MPH, not Klicks. So the spedo is reading correctly at near 130 MPH.
I used to race and this would be a wild ride w/o the faring.

I have done 177km/h GPS measured with stock gears in sixth at 9500rpm running K+N, no airbox snorkle, no secondaries, and drilled muffler.
It pulled this up a grade.
Speedo was showing 195km/h.
As speed increases so does inaccuracy.

You should shift a bit sooner, it's a twin for christ sake.. your bikes power band tops out at 8800 rpms and power drops rapidly beyond that.

It's not a DL1000 because the dash is DL650. But It might be downhill. I've hit 200km+ with mine but downhill only. (SO it doesn't count anyway)

i can not give you consumption numbers,,i never calculate things like that on bikes :)
the strom is a really good all rounder, you can be in the city w/o problems and in the highway too.
It can turn properly,it has very good brakes and a general good feeling riding it!
I think it is far better than the F650,but you would enjoy both i guess.
