From what I've read, during her prime time (lasting a few decades), she killed quite a few promising careers of younger singers by refusing sing if anyone else was allowed to sing. India has countless remarkable singers but greed of a few didn't permit them to become visible. Thank God for the modern media of communication!

With due respect to all previous comments, this performance of Lataji is definitely up to the mark considering that this is a Live performance.Today's singers sing so horribly on stage, most of them just do a lip-sync with the original song playing in the background. Singers like Lataji or Ashaji can't even think of doing that. Lata's old era songs are incredibly difficult and ofcourse her age has somewhat affected her voice.But on the whole she has maintained the standard of the song.

He is on record as having sung songs for FREE for struggling producers. He stated he did not want royalties and never stated that others should not receive them. Although I am a great fan of lata, but I must say that age effects everybody. Although age has been kinder to her then most people and she retains the same innocence and softness in her voice but something is amiss. Don't feel that magical effect anymore, but I greatly respect her talent and even today she is a great competitor to the new singers.
