Years ago, I sat on a rock on the Maine coast, watching the Atlantic. Huge waves crested and broke--the water went streaming up over the rocks just beneath me, came racing up to within an inch of my foot. And then it stopped. Power, yes--immeasurable power! but controlled. That is just the feeling I get listening to anything by Bruckner!

The repetitiveness of the phrases, the way the music seems to be built on such repetition, reminds me of Glass.

This part of the the 2nd movement makes me feel like I'm caught in a shower of sounds and light raining...
