I think there are 2 factors here that make the PS3 update system so lousy. First, there is no update size restriction from Sony (like MS has), so publishers don't have a motivation to keep the update simple and second, it seems like the PS3 installer/updater it's not very well designed. A good updater just installs a delta from the latest version to the one you have, it seems PS3 updater needs to install all updates in order so probably is downloading and overwriting the same files over and over
I've changed my opinion quite a bit on PS3 in the last year. I've owned for just about 2 1/2 years now and it's finally come into its own. I think it had the best stuff as far as exclusives this year and into next, but... there are still some things I can not stand, one is that I'm FORCED to install certain games onto my harddrive. Ridiculous. It's a waste of harddrive space in my opinion. More games should be like Killzone 2 which doesn't force you to do this crap.

i know im a ps3 fanboy, but i hate this, i usually fall asleep and sleep for 7 hours and im thinking when i wake up, Oh shit i left my ps3 on.
