Islam has its own culture, and will define the roles of men and women in its own way. For someone to challenge this they should b scholarly, and able to understand the culture properly from an unbiased perspective. My point was that the Quran shouldn't be interpreted in a way where it is twisted to suits someone's own agenda.
Most importantly the quran should be interpreted by learned scholars who are well educated in the history, arabic language and the hadith. Basically the quran should not just be interpreted by the average joe.
Also new interpretations and discoveries of the Quran are appearing even recently. especially in the field of science.

It is Hitchens challenge but it is alot easier I think you will agree to answer the second.
