I remember seeing this when I was a toddler in the '60s. It was my introduction to Japanese culture at a time when there was still left-over b.s. cliches from WW2 still kicking around.
@WhiteCamry Actually, the Creator of Hashimoto cartoons, Bob Kuwahara, was himself Japanese American, and went out of his way to make his characters likeable and sympathetic. He was a much more accurate and respectful representative of his ethnicity than, say, Deputy Dawg was of his. In fact, his were probably the very first American cartoons to portray Japanese culture without insulting it.
Man. They gotta get these out on DVD. This was a sweet show. a very original idea for its time. I remember this episode kinda gave me the creeps though as a kid. Not sure why. Who is doing the voices? Very familiar.
I was watching these in syndication from 1976-78. Over a decade after they first aired. Probably on WDCA Channel 20 in DC or Channel 5 in DC. Maybe on a Baltimore UHF station like WBFF 45. AHHHH, SOOOOO!!!
OMG ... DITTO!!! I have searched SOOOOOO long to find waht this cartoon was. I remember watching it in a cartoon booth whenever my family ate at our local pizza house.
Amigos, la última vez que vi esta caricatura, fue en 1968, tenía 3 años y la he buscado toda mi vida...apenas había un televisor a color en la ciudad donde crecí, y fue lo primero que vi a color...gracias y que Dios te bendiga por el post...
Considering the way Japanese were treated by cartoons only 15 years previous, this is a superb rendition. A bit silly in depicting the culture (they don't say "banzi" to mean "hooray!"), but a great effort.
You can see the Yugoslav (Serbian) version of Possible Possum on the links below. This cartoon was frequently shown on Belgrade television in the seventies and eighties. It was translated as "The General's store". Loved it when I was a kid, still love it today. Cheers
oh shit this i's ma cartoon when i was 2 or 3 jears old ma parents could me and stil doe they coul me hashimoto (my real oficial nickname ) hashimoto is Fuckin'n cool ah haha hah that i can see this now
Amazing. I haven't watched those since the seventies easily. WOW. So what DID happen to all the Terrytoons? Same thing as Filmation? just cut up and divvied off and etc once the studio closed? Strange how they just vanished.
It took me two hours to find this. When the clouds revealed the moon, I seriously got the chills, like I did when I was a kid. This was probably what fueled my love affair with Japan. Thanks so much for this, leo81960. Arigato.
My very first memory of television as a child! OMG!!

Does anybody have some Possible Possum episodes? That was the best thing Terrytoons ever came out with.

Terrytoons animator Bob Kuwahara created "Hashimoto", but Connie Rasinski directed this one. John Myhers provided nost of the voices here...
