This was one of the worst beatings that ive ever seen and the thing I dont understand is Dale Rolfe was always there to help his team and not one came to his rescue.....That would never have happened against the Bruins!!
This was a disgrace, the Rangers standing by watching this is terrible. To make myself feel better I just watched Clark Gillies beat the snot out of the "hammer".
@BronxNYE206St They actually stuck up for one another and made you believe that they actually cared! I haven't felt that way about a Ranger team since 1997.
Nah cause BROADWAY BLUESHIRTS is just a gay-ass nickname...I mean broadway isn't the straightest thing in the world and blueshirts just doesn't sound tough at all.
There was a time in the mid 70s when EVERY Rangers-Flyers game would end up in a fight like this. It was great! One game I saw on TV, Schultz got thrown out early, went up to sit in the press box & him & Bill Chadwick ended up in a shouting match on TV! Chadwick was screaming "That guy's off his rocker!" It was my all-time favorite TV hockey moment. I wonder if anyone has that game on tape. That crazy old man probably would have fought Schultz right there.
I played against most of these Flyers at one time ,and I could tell you, you always had to look over your shoulder for an elbow or stick in the spleen along the boards.and you never saw Bobby Clarke fight, he would stick you or slash the back of your legs, and the let Shultz,Barber, or Dupont finish his business.and Bernie Parent had a nasty streak that made Billy Smith look like a saint.I say this in tribute to the Broad Street Bullies.btw Fred Shero was actually a hockey genius.
this video is one sided as it doesn't show when #8 completely knocks out #3 of the Rangers and they have carry him off...one sided video maybe? No matter the Broadstreet Bullies will go down in history as the toughest ever no matter what!-
You're a fucking asshole. That's Ron Harris (#3) right there waiting for Schitz but the pussy wouldn't fight him. Harris did beat the living shit out of Dornhoefer in another game that year. One of the best fights ever. Harris landed 50 punches and Dornhoefer took 50 and threw zero.
If Bryan Lewis had just let Schultz fight Ted Irvine they would have gotten it out of their system and the game would have proceeded without incident. But they didn't and all the side scraps resulted. I believe this game was played in spring 1975.
I'm a huge Habs fan but I'll tell you this.Everyone accuses these Philly teams of the 70's being bullies and won through intimidation but the fact is that these Flyer teams were very talented and very well coached.Clarke,Barber,Leach,McCleish,Parent, these guys had some serious talent.Throw in Parent who was probably the best goalie in the league,a torrid work ethic,a sound defensive system and you have a championship team.I didn't like these guys but I respected them.
During this series, I was listening to the radio and I think I 'heard' that Glen Sather roughed up Schultz ? Maybe it is my memory that is roughed up? Anyone know about Sather fighting Schultz?
Never happened. Sather was a big pussy. Fought a seventy year old man in Vancouver to try and fire up his team. Walked in front of me as I was taking picture prior to Game Three of the 83 finals at the Colleseum. Tough guy tried to insitgate a fight with a couple of 18, 19 year olds sitting diagonally behind me. Sather like most Rangers of the day (70s) had NO BALLS when it came to really fighting. Came up short as a man too.
Those Rangers had a few legit tough guys, especially Harris, who literally chased Saleski around the Spectrum ice. They did not have the Gillies or Nystrom types, but then again who else did ? Once Jethro punched out 'the hammer' one year after this series, he was never the same !!!!
awesome video! Don't just love Youtube?! I can't believe these old videos are popping up: I thought these classic fights were lost. Thanks Hockeybooks!

was there ANY fight from the 70's Flyers without a third man in?
ChickCorea1000 9 months ago
@ChickCorea1000 Nope! "Big Turd" and "Douche" are the reasons we have a third man in penalty now.
And neither of those scum could fight their way out of a paper bag.

The only reason that the flyers should retire #8 is that no one from Philly is smart enough to count that high.
