  • i feel so lucky i've been fortunate enough to have seen him live. he's an american treasure.

  • Just priceless!

  • Innocent and open, but not Naive. Experienced but not jaded. Simple but only because he realizes that many things do not equal happiness. Self sufficient even through severe handicaps. Loves the Lord even through great turmoil.

This is what America was made of and the only thing that will bring us back to greatness. The 2 people I look up to most in life are Doc Watson and Zig Ziglar. Both amazing men of faith and character. I can't say enough good things about them.

  • Doc is Why People Want to play the Guitar peorid

  • Hot Damn they're good... Makes ya wonder if you should practise 24/7 for the next 30 years, or just do a ritual burning of those guitars out in the back yard...

  • doc is the best

  • pretty darn nice

  • Man oh man can doc pick.

  • Love you, Doc. And, thank God for David Holt!!

  • whoever dislikes ol' Doc Watson obviously was in the wrong place

  • What a treasure he remains to be...

  • Nothing heals me better than Doc singing and playing guitar. Thanx for sharing!

The second guitarist is real good at slide guitar.

  • @WILDAIR David Holt is pretty good! I've seen him with Doc a few times and on his own a few times. Like Doc, he's a good story teller.

  • Thanks for the comment. Yeap it is true. Mom and Doc were close all her life.

She was proud of him and he was proud of her.

  • Kikappoo44, thanks for the great story. we all love the good Doctor!! He is an American treasure and I am so glad to have seen him live quite a few times. These stories and videos are precious to us all.

  • Thanks or this its wonderful and so is Doc

  • Please Doc, come back to Bristol.

  • This great song, recorded by the Mississippi Sheiks 02/17/1930 has become a blues standard and has found its way into Bluegrass and Western Swing. Bob Wills recorded it 5 times.

  • great video ,, thank you for posting it

  • Has Doc written an autobiography? If he hasn`t I sure hope that he does.

Thanks for the clip. It`s pure Doc. Beautiful.

    Tony

  • You can;t beat that, great!!!!!

  • I first heard Doc Watson on the album, Will the Circle Be UnBroken it featured the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Mother Maybelle Carter, Cisco Houston as well as Doc and his son Merle. I became a fan of Doc's after that.

  • doc is simply peerless. thank you for posting this.

  • I've never been able to see Doc in person so this is a greatly appreciated look. For me a big part of the performance are the little pieces of his personal life that helps fill out the full picture. You did pretty well considering the angle you had to shoot from. Doc's a pleasure in any event. Thanks.

  • Thanks for posting! What a wonderful video, I can't get enough of Doc Watson!

  • Thanks Doc =')

  • Excellent video capture.

I live in Bristol and love these showcases.

  • I first heard the Doc decades ago. Stupid me I forgot how beautiful his music is but I guess I will have a chance to renew and see him at the Newport Folk Festival in 2009.

  • a legend

  • That "David" is David Holt also from North Carolina. He plays several old time instruments,

claw hammer style banjo etc. He used to host a show on the now defunct TNN.

  • i grew up in winston-salem, nc.

I met david holt a few times, as a child and young adult. Hes a hell of a nice guy, and a damn good guitarist.

In NC Doc Watson is like a legend, i grew up listening and watching him

My uncle actually got to play a set with Doc back in the early 90's at MerleFest.

this recoring here was recent, its good to see Doc is still alive and apparently doing well.

Its nice to see so many people taking interesting folk music, thats the roots of music.

  • OK, so I'm ignorant. Who is the "David" playing the resonator guitar with Doc?

  • David Holt :)

  • Thanks for this posting this Video

That was my Mom he pulled up in the cherry

tree. She told me about that the first

time 40 years ago. She really was thrilled to be up in that tree with him and all thoes cherries.

The one thing he does not tell that she told me was that before he let her down he made her promise not to tell Mama about this episode and she promised and never told cause if she had Arthel would have been in BIG trouble.

  • Thank you for sharing that with us!

  • @kikapoo44 You can really feel the hight in how he tells it. Great story! Do you have pictures of you two around that time?

  • @kikapoo44 thats cool, thanks for sharing

  • @kikapoo44 One of my proudest moments was being asked to play "Ocean of Diamonds" for her at her benefit in Clover, good times!

  • @kikapoo44

Wow, so is Doc and his sister your Mom and Uncle? What a family if true. That story brought soft tears to my eyes.

  • @kikapoo44 The whole truth comes out sooner or later LOL. Thanks for sharing the rest of the story.

Amazing how well Doc has held up. He can still play and sing beautifully. I've seen him perform with David Holt several times. They compliment each other very well.

  • Excellent !!! Thank You for the posting !! LB
